Smashley Young

Was terrible the first 20 mins kept giving it away has good work rate but very average today.

Was a rubbish but expected performance as a good 3 matches are usually always followed by 10 average to poor ones. Tries hard and runs around a lot but offers little quality outside his '3 game bursts' from time to time. Really hope Nani can come in and steady the winger situation and prove why we should give him his desired contract.

Even though it wasn't his best game, I actually thought we missed him once he got injured, and then went off.

He adds that versatility, and ability to roam around and drift inside, to the attack that we lack with Valencia.

Surprised he's getting slated for today.

Ashley was amped up for the game and worked his socks off, his end product was lacking and it just wasn't his day. Sad to see him limp off. But let's get serious for a moment and recall that he's a squad man at best. A great squad man but he's not in the same class as Nani.

Speaking of Nani, I really want to see the man unchained soon. We could use his firepower, which as been sorely lacking on both flanks this season.

Guardian saying he left OT in crutches and Vidic could be out for a while. What is it with us and fecking injuries.

Nani back young out, we know how it works

I think his main problem was he kept slipping, when accelerating he looked out of control, and sometimes his touch can be a little panicky.

But over all i thought he did ok.

I thought he was alright, was somewhat frustrating but he did do some good stuff attackingly.

I hope he isn't injured for long because he's a useful player for tough matches, works really hard and can contribute in the attack. His problem as I think most would say is that he simply isn't as good as either valencia or nani, he doesn't have the power of valencia or the technique of nani, though he is a bit of a blend of both in that he's more sensible than nani and better at moving across the front than nani and so can link up more.

I don't think he'll really ever be a player that will tear up teams for us but I think he can have an important role in being a reliable outlet on the ball with a great work rate.

He only had one half to play, winger's a pretty low percentage position, even the best wingers won't normally deliver anything in one half of football. It was certainly nothing earth shattering but he looked a threat, got the ball into the box a few times, kept Johnson pegged back and didn't do anything catastrophic, I'm surprised by the criticism of him. He certainly wasn't pathetic or terrible.

He certainly wasn't terrible. He's a pretty good footballer, but the thing is, he has pretty shit physical attributes. He has average speed and poor strength. This wouldn't be a problem if he was an exceptional footballer, but he isn't in that level.

I do think he is good enough technically though, that if he were either just a bit faster or just a bit stronger (or both), he'll be a match winner.

Just typical, I knew it would be a bad injury when we made the sub. Would not surprise me if he's out for a longer period.

That's a bit of a blow. He was pretty good at WHL last season, scoring two goals. I think?

Hopefully Nani will be back on Sunday.

Come one, he wouldn't have been able to keep on playing if it was an ACL.

A lot of people do though, they think they can walk it off, play on for a couple of minutes and then bang gone for even longer. In fact Victory's star Brazilian did it 3 weeks ago. Took a kick to the knee played on for a bit and then his knee buckled under him and he is gone for the rest of the season.

Waow that's crazy, I hurt my ACL 2.5 years ago and I didn't even tear my ligament, the pain almost made me cry and I could barely even walk.

That's what I'd have thought too. I always assume it hurts like hell and you'd know something's wrong but apparently a lot of people don't.

With Welbeck playing more on the left this season, Kagawa back and capable of playing there and Zaha seemingly set to join, does anybody else think that Ashley Young will be a surprise sale at the end of the season? Or that his time is limited?

With our recent injury record, he'll probably be fourth choice next season and still play fifty games!

I don't think so. Young is a great squad player, similar to the role Park used to play for us, even though they are different types of players. Also, he's not been too bad so far this season. Certainly better than Valencia anyway.

Depends if we got a good fee for him. SAF seems to like him though. He will be back in the team soon enough.

Well, hoping him to leave is kinda supporting the rest of the players in a way. :D

Come on Aldo. I expected you to be one of the sensible ones. I don't enjoy Young's style of play too much, but some of the stuff here is Over the top
