Smashley Young

@Hectic: Maybe he needs to have a track and field coach to help him.Of course football is different and the runs in the two sports are different but I'm sure Ashley would benefit from a few pointers in terms of body balance.

Marlo is playing well, which is a blessing since Nani is injured/frozen out and Valencia is in awful form. We need at least one winger performing and Young is doing that.

I thought he was very mediocre, but I'm probably a bit biased because I don't like him.

Agree with the running like a toddler bit. Finds ways to mess up attacking moves that I just don't understand. Nonetheless, he was pretty good. Hope he's okay.

I don't think he is playing well enough, but he is getting better.

Shows no authority in his play, which is disappointing for a 27/8 year old- but he has enough natural talent/ physical attributes and works hard enough to be a decent squad player and chip in over a season.

He was OK today, he put a few good balls in that we didn't capitalise on.

Hopefully he hasn't hurt himself badly at all. We seem to be rather short of wingers at the moment

Name a better backup winger out there.

Young scores lots of goals and gets plenty of assists. He's done it his whole career and did it for us last season.

He slowly returning to form after the horror of the Euros and and injury.

That's the annoying part. £18m and a very high wage for a player in their last year of their contract shouldn't be the money to pay for a backup winger.

So far he hasn't proved himself good enough to justify the signing of him for that kind of money. I don't think that's outrageous to say.

Said it before & my opinion hasn't changed, a decent enough Premiership player but no more. As a backup fair enough, but considering what we paid for him & how much reportedly he gets paid represents very poor value.

As to his performance yesterday? I think 'meh' sums it up for me.

He's so slow in thought which means he'll lose the ball way too often because he doesn't decide what to do until a second receiving the ball

Thought today would be his chance to prove his worth, but really, he's looked a class below all our other attackers out there.

Why exactly is he still on the pitch, when clearly injured? Did we learn nothing from the Kagawa injury a few months ago?

Our medical decisions do leave you scratching your head at times.

Can't cope with the pressing. Excellent defensively, made several interceptions. As a side effect of his heavy arm toddler dribbling, when he is fouled he is then catapulted about 100 feet in the air before making a nosedive in to the ground - it's sensational.

Not his worst game of the season, but he needs to do better. He lost possesion ten times in first two minutes.

And defensively he is very good, better than Valencia in most of the games this season.

I hope his injury is not too bad. Not his best game but he did well defensively.

Typical luck, Nani is fit and Young gets a knock.

Jaysus, very harsh lads. Thought he did very well till the knock. Picked out some excellent passes, worked his bollocks off. Give him a break.

We looked better with him on the right rather than Valencia. Had a good game imo..

Good workrate but needs to do more offensively to justify his continued selection on the right wing.

Having said that, I hope the knee injury is not serious. He has had problems with that in the past.

Knowing us though, it makes complete sense that we get one winger back in Nani and another goes down.

I don't think he retained possession more than once or twice in the first 25-30 minutes. He wasn't terrible but he certainly wasn't very good.

The pass to RvP was fantastic though.
