Smashley Young

slowly getting back into form. Still making weird mistakes but I felt encouraged by his performance

Another really good performance from him. Been a harsh critic of him in the past but he's been really good these past few games and he's finally taking people on more and making better crosses and passes. Our only in form winger now.

Played pretty well I thought, a solid 7/7.5 performance which is what you want from your squad players. I was starting to think he one his way to becoming one of our worst flops the way he was playing but the last few weeks have been good. If Nani is leaving we should still look to buy a quality left winger though.

All those cnuts who said he was never and will never be good enough to wear a United shirt, kindly do the world a favour and cease your existence.

Word... I was still in the newbies during the "Young out"-stage. It was horrible down there...

I've backed Young and Hernandez in times good and times bad. It seems to have payed off so far. I must be a lucky charm:cool:

He's stepped up.

I suppose you were there to defend him all the way? It should go both ways you know.

I've been critical of him, but it is nice to see that he has stepped up. He still doesn't go past his man enough, but his passing is very good in and around the box and thus creates chances.

Playing better and better now. I thought he was really good against citeh and today he created a goal for us and showed some good direct running on the left side.

Decent performance I thought. Put some nice balls into the box almost beat players and had some nice interplay with Evra.
Not a great performance of course but something to build on.

Don't forget about his ball-control, work-rate and finishing. It's all more than good enough for a winger, even at the top level. He might not belong in a top 5 or even top 10 list over the most talented wingers in the world, but he's no light-weight(even though he's rather skinny). We should be very pleased to have him.

He was very good today, that's two or three good performance from him in a row, nice to see.

He's slowly making a lot of people who have posted in this thread look like morons...

People criticized him because he was awfull, he deserved to be criticized.

He was awful so far this season but has done better in the last 2-3 games.

Today he was very good.

He's playing so much better than a couple of weeks ago, hope this trend continues. He links up well with Evra, has a very good work rate and develops a good understanding RvP and Rooney

He finally plays with "purpose" and offers an end product

He's had the privilege a lot of our players need but don't get, a run of games in his favoured position and he's benefiting from it.

Don't forget the "Should we sell Rooney?" thread in the newbies after the Cluj dead rubber game.

Back to Young, he was just back from injury and a bit rusty (bar the Chelsea game) so it was to be expected. I'm glad he's coming into form. Some were a bit harsh on him but he had a decent season last season so there was no reason to think he wouldn't improve.

nooooo :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I just want say Hi to Newbies :D

Very good today. Again. Obviously most will tell you he only was good against City but that's bollocks. Turned it around since 4 or 5 games and is playing really well at the moment.

Very good stretches it hugely imo. He was decent. Not as shit as Val but still not what I expect from a winger at United.

The only minus for not getting into the box while we had the ball on the right wing.

:wenger:

Is this what we're classing as really good these days? He was ok. But mostly he repeatedly crossed the ball in without looking, he does this time and time and time and time again, even when he has time and space. You'd think someone would tell him off for it.

This last page of this thread is hilarious. The player was absymal for 3 months, puts in 3 good shifts and all of a sudden everyone who criticised him is a disgrace and was wrong.

Pretty much, although I think Rooney and Valencia being so out of form made Young less effective in the combination. He looked lively and tried to make things happen. Did alright. Not as good as his last few matches but not too bad.

I thought he was alright but I dunno I think when kagawa is fit he should come in ahead of him for games like this where we don't need his defensive work rate quite as much, Nani too. Was quite annoyed in the last periods of the game where he spent far too much time central when we needed him outwide to put the balls in.

.

So you're suggesting that I should spend my life correcting every idiot on the internet, otherwise I am not entitled to call them idiots.

Makes perfect sense.

He was decent but even with Valencia off form our default play seems to be to hit it wide to Valencia and fill the box. Our players should put a bit more trust in Young.

Our best winger these days.. not because he's any good mind you, more because the others are all awful at the moment. He was decent though, and should be starting as he offers us good pace and we have absolutely nobody else. The sooner Nani and Kagawa come back though, the better.

Not only that, but when he was moved to the right and Giggs was put on the left, it seemed to switch around and the left became our main outlet. It's strange, seems like the players aren't as willing to make Young the outlet as they are to Valencia or an on form Nani.

No, but If I was classing our wingers this season based on our ingrained wing standards then all of our wingers should've been sold pronto some time ago.

Tbh he only has a very poor Valencia as competition

True. So for a Manchester United winger, Young was very good today. For a normal winger he was okay. Sorted.

He was decent today. Better than Valencia at least, but that's not exactly a compliment.

He was ok but would be much better if he had a left foot. A left foot for a left winger would be handy :)

otherwise the predictability of cutting in gets snuffed quite a lot which is a shame.
