Smashley Young

Best half from him in a long time, and all that after the pathetic first 'cross' he put in. We look quite dangerous down the left, hope we get the ball to him more often in the second half.

He's been very good so far. Credit to him. Hope it helps his confidence for the big games coming up

Very strong first half. A real shame about Ando having to go off because he and Young were linking up nicely. Still, good to have that threat coming from wide positions, felt we lacked that against West Ham. Evra has been good going forward as well, especially for our third.

Our left has been sooo much more dangerous than the right. Am now a bit worried bout Smalling/(no)Rooney on the right for balance, but Young has been excellent.

They're giving him so much time and space but he's using it and actually "attacking the space" for what seems like the first time this season. Playing like he should be.

Rooney is wasted on the right. Absolutely wasted. Its still okay to play him on the left but to play him on the right makes no sense.

Excellent today. Our best player after Ando, IMO. Not his biggest fan but he's been good.

Good performance so far but its not that surprising against a woeful Reading back line. Delivery is improving but could help Evra out a bit with robson-kanu.

Very good game. Important for his confidence.

He was really unpredictable today which gave the Reading defense a hard time. Of course by unpredictability I mean everybody including Ashley Young himself does not know what he is going to do with the ball until the very last mili-second.

Good performance though.

Clearly I'm missing something, because I thought that once again he lacked any reliable end product, but I'm horribly outnumbered here so the mistake must be mine.

His pass to set up Evra was sublime, though. That much is obvious.

Played well in the first half, possibly our only player to do so. Good linkup play mainly.

Faded completely in the 2nd and is the only player I can think of to end a match with 2 shots hitting the corner flag.

Played well in bursts but faded in the second half, just needs to run at people, look how much trouble the reading wingers were causing our fullbacks by having a go. He plays too safe too often.

Didn't agree with him starting but he did really well today. Actually looked positive with his play and took on the defenders and put in crosses. Hopefully he keeps up the form next week, he'll need it.

Yeh didn't see anything to think he had a great game. Wasn't awful or anything just kind of...floated.

Faded badly in the second half. Although a lot had to do with Anderson missing.
Still great first half and promising performance overall.

Finally good game from him, but his shooting was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Better, but he still has some distance to cover before he can makes the likes of Zabaleta shit in their boots.

He was okay in the first half. Nice flick to Evra, but he still didn't contribute much and wasted many good opportunities again. Evra was badly exposed down that side quite often too.

Finally starting dribbling and taking on defenders again. Good to see.

I've made it clear that I don't rate him, but credit where it is due, he was fantastic tonight. Him and Carrick looked totally transformed.

We saw Young play this well and better plenty of times last season.

I have given him some grief this season, the Euros really did my head in. He played OK today though, showed some quality. Reading were very open though. I still think that Young is far to easy too mark out of the game.

Down to confidence. He is thought to be one of the best off-the ball players in the country.

Fair play, one of our better performers. Hope he finally finds some form now. Still has to take on his man more often

He notched a neat assist for Anderson and was heavily involved in both Rooney's second and the van Persie-fantom goal.

Happy for him. More of that will do.

Not a surprise that his best performance has come playing with a mobile midfield. Since his comeback the Chelsea game and this one has been his standout games. Co-incidentally playing with Cleverley and Anderson.

PS: If anyone didn't know this already, imo the midfield is the root of all most our problems.
