Smashley Young

He's defo not awful but I was surprised and pretty underwhelmed when he signed. He had a brief period where he was very good but has done precious little since.

I also rate him a lot further behind Nani and Valencia

I posted this in the matchday thread.

Really not convinced by him.

He didnt though did he. Started well at West Brom, had a blinder (as did everyone else) in the Arsenal 8-2, Spurs Away and Swansea home. 4 games.

I can't be arsed to do a game by game breakdown but I remember thinking at the end of the season that he was a 'United' player and I didn't think that before.

We were crying out for someone to run with the ball as we passed a little to much at times. I thought he did ok.

It's confidence, all confidence. It's plain as day that he really does not want the ball at the moment, he's lost all faith in himself.

It's odd though because when he arrived I was pleasantly surprised by what a United player he looked in terms of winning mentality. I guess injuries do that.

He had ACRES of space down the left, yet continually ran into the full backs comfort zone so decided to check back and lay it off. Passing the responsibility to someone else...

Near the end, he received it in space on his right foot with the chance to swing a cross into the box with FIVE red shirts in there. No, play it back to Carrick.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::

Really?

He created nothing. There was one golden opportunity for him to put it on a plate for one of our lads as he got a clear run into the box - he put it on a plate for Tomkins instead.

Definitely, my worries at the moment are firstly England might have broken him and secondly he's reaching a point where fans just will never like him period.

I don't think it's a matter of confidence Plech. This is the player he was at Villa. A magical month and a half of the season, then feck all for 3 months, then another brilliant month, then feck all.

Maybe he can put them together in April and May then.

Utterly pointless yet again. Never runs at his defenders, never beats his full back and absolutely never crosses to a team mate. Pretty decent left back though.

He sends me grey but I thought he was ok tonight. Lets be fair.

He actually used to dribble at Villa though, so confidence definitely plays at part IMO. At United he might be more concerned about cocking up so is less willing to take risks and so just plays it safe, feck noes.

Couldnt we just sell him? Your plan seems harsh.

I hated him at Villa. His face, the way he plays football, the way supposed football people rated him.

Then we go and sign the fecker. Imagine how I felt last year when it was announced. Now that he's surprised even me with how uselessly limited he is, I'm losing my usual rational coolness.

I say we lock him in a room, with just Geoff Shreeves for the rest of their lives.

I agree with this. Watching him play at the moment makes me think he reads Redcafe. He needs to get back to being direct and driving towards the centre of the opposition defence more often because then he is dangerous with his ability to curl the ball.

Underrated on here at the moment but has been badly out of form for most of 2012.

Can I ask how the hell Starkie_1 appears to have got banned as a result of posts in this thread?

Well, wishing death upon a player, joking or otherwise, will give anyone a break. You can talk to Starkie again in a few days.

He's a squad player who's just not contributing at the moment. He's not the only player currently playing poorly, he just seems to get more stick 'cos he was probably over-priced, likes to dive, and has a punchable face.

The one time he makes a positive forward run and looks like he's going to do something good he decides to play a terribly slow/shit backwards ball across goal to noone in particular.

I learnt something about Young tonight - that United fans hate him. Every pass he misplaced was greeted with uncontrollable anger. Was quite funny at times.

He's not treated like other United players, he's not feeling like a United player any more.

Well the majority of fans don't think he's good enough and that he'll never be good enough for United. He was a surprising signing. I'd have been happy for City to shell out that £18million for him.

But, what he does have is the attitude. He wants to be here, you can see that. He wants to perform and win trophies. I reckon Young has replaced Anderson as United fans number one most hated.

For some reason I imagine him scoring and yelling into the camera, "feck you RedCafe, you cnuts!"

Then he gets a ban and enters the perpetual cycle of shitness for three months.

Maybe he's a confidence player, like Berbatov. I remember when Berba was getting on our tits, the fans made it obvious that he was annoying them. Didn't really help Berba.

I say we whap out a fecking huge flag, covering the whole of the Stretford End for a minute or so before kick off of Young's face with the words "We're behind you, Young!".

A hatrick of assists will be witnessed that day

he won't be a united player in three years....he was never consistently good at Villa, he was often shite there to. It really surprised me when we signed him and nothing he has done since has changed my mind

To be fair...he wasn't awful tonight...Rooney was...welbeck was pretty meh when he came on and Chico should just be the new ole...reading the game from the bench and coming on later and being hero!!

...and if Ando plays like that in every game he starts from now on...we have a real star on our hands!

Which sort of reminds me of a certain Kieran Richardson, but with a massive price tag. Try as he might, one mistake and our own fans will be on his back.
