Six Nations 2016

Six Nations has been a bit grim so far this year. WC hangover I suppose, but the likes of Wayne Barnes and that ref in the Ireland match don't help. Likely to be big disappointment for Ireland today too, but we're doing what we probably should have done right from the start in giving new players a go rather than falling over ourselves to squeeze unfit/injured players into the team because they're the stalwarts. I'd have loved Matt Healy to be in the squad today too, but Ireland's loss is Connacht's gain.

Yeah I wanted it from the beginning as well. Happy to see VDF get a shot because I think he's a real talent . Not sure why fellas like Dillane, Marmion and Healy haven't been given the same opportunitues seeing how weak we are at lock, back up SH and on the wings

Bit of a mystery. Marmion deserves a shot for sure. If we lose today there will probably be even further changes and the team can start building for the future.

Yeah Marmion or even McGrath should be ahead of Reddan at this stage. Zebo and Rob K are both very fortunate to be ahead of guys like Healy, Gilroy and Conway on this year's form as well.

McFadden seems to be the one who gets the ire when you read around comments on facebook articles, thejournal etc. I'm hoping we're not quite at a Declan Kidney moment yet where Schmidt has taken the team as far as he can, but they do seem a bit stuck in their ways. It's all a bit grim that the WC didn't herald some big changes, that it had to be forced on the team through injuries.

We've underperformed in the last 3 world cups and then, in the following years six Nations, stuck with the same old players and finished mid table with 2 wins each time.

It's very frustrating to see the same mistakes made over and over again. First 6nations of a world cup cycle should be an exercise in blooding talent.

Even worse than the selection issues, is the refusal to expand the way we are looking to play the game. Rugby had moved on and the 6 Nations, us at the top of the list, are going to fall further and further behind the SH

Scotland playing some lovely rugby here. Blowing Italy out of it at ruck time, generating lovely quick ball and their backs have been really accurate so far.

Scotland have been excellent so far albeit against an Italy team that is struggling. Looks like their World Cup performance wasn't a flash in the pan.

Best team won but Mike Brown is a dickhead. Always has been. Ireland can take more out of this performance than any other in the tournament so far, I think.

Joe can feck off now. Thanks for everything.

I've rarely seen two players perform as badly as VDF and Toner did today, yet both finished the game while Ryan and Stander were sitting on the sidelines. Dillane should've been on after 20 minutes - Toner was absolutely brutal. VDF is a good youngster and will come good but how he wasn't taken off for his own good at half time is beyond me. He was brought in for his much lauded "chop tackle" to counter Vunipola. That worked well!

England weren't great at all. The first half was spent watching 30 professional rugby players attempting to throw and catch a ball with their elbows. But at the end of the day, England played with 3 backrows and 2 locks while we played with one backrow, one lock and Toner, VDF and Heaslip pretending to be centres.

The English will need to be much, much better than that to beat Wales.

I like Mike Brown, possibly my favourite English player but that was thuggery, right in front of the referee today. He must have flung 6 kicks into that crowd of bodies without a flying feck for who or what he hit.

If you seriously think Mike Brown is the biggest cnut in sport then you clearly don't watch much sport.

It was a comment made in the heat of the moment obviously however he's still an utter twat who spends most of the game squaring up to opposition players for no apparent reason and then whining to the referee. If you don't think he's a dick then clearly you don't watch much rugby.

I must be wasting my time having a London Irish season ticket

I get that they're trying to diversify on the referees etc, but why why why have Nigel Owens on the sideline again this weekend after the catalogue of errors that have gone on. Those kicks were brutal.

Edit: By the way, the said on the coverage here that it was the same TMO at this match as the match last night.

In Hartley, Lawes and Farrell, there were probably 3 bigger dicks than Brown on his own team today! We probably had one or two ourselves!

Was a shitty thing to do but he's far from the worst player around. I like that he leaves everything out on the field. He usually does so without being dirty.

Absolutely. He's a player I hate to see lining out against Ireland because he's really good. Really shameful stuff he was at today but those others are worse because they are so headless in their dickery. Gormless. Laughably so.

Mike Brown accidentally kicked Reddan in the head.

3 times.

How do you deem that accidental!?

Disgusting. On a knife edge now.

Lads. Seriously like.

Let's just all agree that Brown is a cnut.

:D

All Irish lads here I take it? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Murray's head was behind Brown's boot, the ball was on the ground, it's a ruck, and it's kickable. Schmidt himself says it was accidental and the accusations here of thuggery are pretty shameless. Not too many players in this thread here judging by the mewling but if you've ever been rucked you'll know it's a good idea to let go of the ball( that's the rules lads) and get your head away from it when it's on the ground. I expect Murray won't be complaining.

As an England fan the likes of Brown are what you want pulling on the shirt. "Mr Angry" plays on the edge and that's what makes him such a great competitor. Love the man. What I don't like is rugby players calling for the opposition to get yellow carded. Get on with the game there's a ref for that stuff.

That Ireland team could do with some of that they're a soft fecking touch right now and are heading for wooden spoon status if they're not careful. England should've put 30 points on in that first half but are still only 3 games into the new regime and it was their own errors that gave the Irish a sniff.

Too much whingeing from the Irish about unfair play, refs, and not having as many players to pick from as everybody else. Boring.

Best game of the 6N so far.

Sour grapes? Hardly. England were deserved victors and it should have been over by halftime. Brown may have been entitled to kick the ball but he still has to take responsibility and actually aim at the thing. He was kicking wildly around Murray's head which led to him going off injured. Brown is a great player but there's plenty of better players who don't feel the need to be such a prick so I don't see why it is necessary or celebrated. He's a fake 'hard man' who usually picks fights with players smaller than him or who are on the ground.
