Six Nations 2016

Not really, it's the same as saying "hey Pakistani boy". Paki is a racist slur, Gypsy isn't, it's just dependent on context.

Sorry when I typed content I meant context. "gyspy boy" when used as Marler did, is just as much a racist slur.

Ah OK, I agree with you there.

Six Nations: Title winners England 'can dominate tournament'
http://m.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/35799626

This is somewhat true, but let them get the next match out of the way then worry about the future :D There is definitely potential to dominate, but it never quite works out that way, and while they've overcame a major psychological hurdle against Wales, they also nearly blew it.

No grand slam since 2003. I don't think it'll be a shock if this team somehow bottle it. It all depends, as ever, on which France show up.

England should be dominating the tournament.

Themselves and France have resources miles beyond the other four Nations and unlike France, Englands major domestic clubs are largely made up of English players.

They've largely underperformed for a decade, but you would fully expect them to be competing for the title most years moving forward.

Agree with the post above about England really being the team that should be able to dominate the Six Nations tournament thanks to their resources. The test will come against the Southern Hemisphere opponents they play against this year. Australia thrashed England in the World Cup, England hasn't beaten South Africa since 2006 and against New Zealand they've been there or thereabouts. The test for the Northern Hemisphere teams is to beat their counterparts from down south who dominated the World Cup.

Definitely. I've a feeling we discussed the same during the WC. It's been a matter of poor coaching and player choice/behavior. Both nations with their ducks in a row should always beat us.

France have one big problem, it's the rucks, the scrum halves are terribly slow, it takes them two days to play the ball and the support and ruck protection are pretty bad too.

Michael Cheika will be in Paris watching France vs England this weekend i believe on a scouting mission for the June series. He'll know this England team will be very different from the one coached by Stuart Lancaster. This England team has so much more mongrel in it. Still believe AUS can dominate England at the scrum like the World Cup to the extent i want Romain Poite to ref the whole series :smirk:;). Can't believe i actually said that about Romain Poite.

Bad moment for rugby today in my opinion. Joe Marler completely cleared to play this weekend, despite Six Nations Rugby acknowledging what he said, the seriousness of it and that it couldn't be condoned.

They have let him off because "it was said in the heat of the moment" as opposed to all those stamps and eye gouges which are calculated and premeditated.

This sets a really bad precident. People have suggested it was ok because Lee has spoken proudly about being a Gypsy but that's nonsense. Would it be ok to address a player who has advocated for black rights in the same way? Or one who has campaigned for gay rights?

Bad buzz alright. Cut and dried with admitting guilt, I doubt even that Barca lad would defend him :D

Agree, bad reasoning.

The racism behind what he said has to be considered.

Right, here we go, the last mammoth day of this year's competition which wraps up with an 8pm kickoff.
  • Wales v Italy 2:30pm
  • Ireland v Scotland 5pm
  • France v England 8pm
England are the only ones with anything to play for, can they pull off a Grand Slam? I have doubts. Totally depends on the French I think, but you only have to look at last year to see how much they love to spite England :D They should do it, they're in better form and have a settled team, but they nearly threw away the whole competition last week in 10 mad minutes. Shame it's 6 full hours away!!

Will be surprised if England don't pull off the grand slam. Looking forward Greig Laidlaw and Craig Joubert's reunion after the World Cup controversy.

Definitely should, they're the better team. Will they though? That's a bigger question.
France haven't shown a great deal thus far that suggests they can beat England and i don't see why that will change today. A grand slam early in Eddie Jones tenure will be big for them after the World Cup debacle.

Just on history. There's no logic, but that hasn't stopped the French team in the past :D

Not much fire in this one so far, perhaps unsurprisingly. Lots of gaps in the Scottish defence.

We make try scoring look very hard. Our pack have been exceptional in fairness and they have had to make a huge amount of tackles. Fancy us to pull away in the last quarter.

Looking forward to seeing Dillane get a run at these lads after CJ has softened them up some more!

I'd usually be inclined to say it would be so like France to feck things up today, but I just can't see it. France are pants and England are strong in all the areas you need to be to beat them.

France are absolutely awful and England should win comfortably if they play at all well. I'm still baffled we managed to lose to them.

We didn't have the luck this year. We did, massively, last year. It's the kinda thing that you can't feel too bad about. Last year with everything going right we prob would have beaten both Wales and France. Still wouldn't have won this championship though.

Silly pen to give away so early.

Such poor defending by France, they invited Care to canter through.

That's a big call, looked to me like obstruction.

Definitely was. Nige had just made up his mind beforehand and didn't want to let the telly make him look silly. Jones has England set up so well though - just has the right players in the right positions making the right decisions at the right time.

It's so simple but it's an art the rest of us in the North are incapable of. I can see the feckers winning another world cup under him.

Agreed, I don't think England are playing particularly great Rugby tonight but we seem to have a ruthless efficency.

If you can find 2 world class options to replace Robshaw and Haskell I think you'll be unstoppable. I'm so impressed with Hartley in this 6nations. He seems to have actually matured finally and is playing like the player he always threatened to be. His darts make me miss Flannery so much. They're low, flat and fast - impossible to defend.

Youngs has been excellent, he's used the ball so well, lovely little kick for the try too.

A few people questioned whether Itoje could maintain the promise he showed. If England win this slam, his lineout steals in this second half will have had a massive say!

That French clown should be shot for that. What the hell was he thinking trying to lift a prone player off the ground like that?

Ridiculous, especially after a knee in the head/neck area.
