Six Nations 2016

In the view of winning a championship, Ireland probably had to win today. They'll get beaten somewhere along the line, maybe more than once, and they needed today to squeek a championship like last year. Next week could be brutal away from home, 6 day turnaround with a beaten-up team.

Ireland have a great chance to win tomorrow, France is playing a completely new style and most players aren't used to it.

If the Irish scrum holds up then I'd agree that we have a terrific chance to win. I don't agree that the result against Wales rules us out of winning the championship, I still don't think we will but I feel like we at least have some chance now. I fully expected us to lose to Wales last week given the injuries and if we can find a way to win tomorrow, against a French team who will likely be stronger at the end of the Championship when they're more settled under Noves, then we go to Twickenham with a few players back to play another team who will also be stronger later on.
Again, I think us winning both of those 2 matches is a long shot but at least there's an opportunity to win 3 in a row if we do manage to win both.

Yes but we have only won twice in Paris in 6N and the last time before that was the seventies. In Irish media, there is bafflement at the changes Noves has made, especially the props, who they think are the best in the championship. It depends which France shows up :D

I'm surprised by the bafflement, because Poirot is an excellent prop he isn't worse than Slimani or Ben Arous while Atonio is pretty good too. Against Italy the too starters lacked aggressivity which is the main reason for the tight game.
After that, Bonneval was poor( lacked aggressivity, ), Fickou has personal issues, Flanquart is good at lineouts and Picamoles is injured.

That bafflement I think comes from the fact that we scrummaged poorly against Wales and the press here see the guys who were dropped as better scrummmagers..

They are better than Atonio and not better than Poirot, but they are not in form this season particularly Slimani. So I think that it's a good idea to give a chance to Poirot who is very promising, the one thing I like about Atonio is that he is a good runner and a handful in open play. Also Poirot and Atonio are closer to the Servat-Johnstone pairing that Noves had with Toulouse, they are both better at breaking the line.

So would you say he's really going for it, not conservative at all?

We will try to play like Toulouse, otherwise Camara and Thomas would have never been selected. Only Flanquart is a tactical move, we are going to try to disturb your lineouts and win ours with Flanquart-Chouly.

Ireland are sloppy. Keep giving away silly penalties

France are really poor. Especially their kicking, pointless even doing it.

Big miss. Perhaps not fair given the conditions, but its an archetypal six nations match of the last few years, low score, big hits and very few line breaks and will go right down to the wire.

Yeah, I'm actually surprised by France's defensive line and how they hold their own in the rucks. The set pieces and launches aren't great but I expected that.

God the French crowd are like Liverpool fans.

Great spirit from the young players.

That game stole 80min from my life. France deserved the win.

Well that was shit, lost to a very mediocre side. I had some hope of winning the whole thing but Ireland were so poor today.

Schmidt has done a great job but he needs to take some chances on young attacking players. The two Kearney brothers offer nothing going forward and Payne isn't an international 13. His bias towards Leinster is clearly noticeable as there is no other way to explain how McFadden and Madigan are in the squad. Absolutely no penetration today and totally one paced against a poor French side.

This match has come alive! I have no idea who I want to win tonight :D

Wales are great in defense, France really miss Picamoles.

Absolutely. There were a couple of high tackles and he's totally out of line with the directive for neck roll there.

Even though Barnes is wrong, I have to admit that it wasn't impressive which is weird because it's exactly what the rule wants to prevent.

Last nights was an awful match, largely because Wayne Barnes allowed Wales infringe at will in their own 22 without penalising them properly, but also because the France XV looked like they met for the first time in the pub, ten minutes before kick off.

Let's see if Ireland can beat England today. I'd make the English heavy favourites because we're a bit useless at the minute, but if we can turn things around it will blow the tournament wide open. I fancy Scotland and England to beat France and Wales at home so things would go right down to the last day. If England win this afternoon though, the tournament is theirs for the taking.

Six Nations has been a bit grim so far this year. WC hangover I suppose, but the likes of Wayne Barnes and that ref in the Ireland match don't help. Likely to be big disappointment for Ireland today too, but we're doing what we probably should have done right from the start in giving new players a go rather than falling over ourselves to squeeze unfit/injured players into the team because they're the stalwarts. I'd have loved Matt Healy to be in the squad today too, but Ireland's loss is Connacht's gain.
