Silva to City

Plastic FC

fecking right. I'm glad I support a team that worked their bolloxes off to achieve the current world stature that Manchester United presently enjoys and nobody can take that away from us. Decades upon decades of honest blood, sweat and tears were endured so we could be top and I'm proud to say that there are some members of this forum who witnessed it from as far back as the late 1950's.

Manchester City and Chelsea will NEVER be able to take away United's heritage, nor Liverpool's heritage, nor Arsenal's heritage for that matter because all mentioned are clubs that achieved what they achieved in an honest, stand up fashion.

Manchester City can rot in the plastic bowels of modern football's hell for all I care

Villa has been a better striker than Rooney the last two weeks.

Give me Rooney over Villa any time though.

You don't realise the quality of United's players.
that's not the case.

I realise where we have quality but I also realise where we lack it, which is what a lot of people on here fail to do.

Most of the people on this forum think everyone at United is good enough for any club in the world, which is insane. Right now, we probably only have 1 or 2 world class player in our team, and a fair few very good players, who some think are world class, but aren't.

Basically, not many from City's squad would improve United's team.

Quite a few from United's squad would improve City's team. Rio, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Fletcher, Giggs, Nani, Scholes and Rooney.

That's another way to look at it yeah.

Given, De Jong, Silva, Toure, Adam Johnson, Ireland, & Tevez are all good enough for our 'squad'. And yeah, the names you mentioned above are good enough for theirs. But there's not much in it these days. But transfer window after transfer window the gap is closing.

Fair enough lads, it's all opinions of course. All that gets set in stone, as far as awards go, is 1, 2 & 3. Which aint going to be Rooney after that dismal WC display.

It's got Messi, Ronaldo then Xavi written all over it.

If you base it on the world cup, surely Ronaldo is nowhere near being the best player in the world.

But, if you know your history, you wouldn't use the world cup as the yardstick of judging players.

Am I the only one who thinks Silva hasn't been delivering for more than a semester now??

Nope. Even our resident Valencia expert has been saying so.

I also don't see how he'll operate at City.

He'll prove to be a very uninspiring signing imo.

There are hundreds of players good enough for United's squad, but only a handful players in the world would improve United's team.

Yeah I think so too. Hopefully he'll just make them slower and clumsier.

Best post of the day.

Blair think you are talking rubbish though, it's all about keeping up with the Jones', even if the Jones' are Nouveau rich chavs.

Yeah I think so too. Hopefully he'll just make them slower and clumsier.

Well he's not slow or clumsy so I dont think thats what will happen. However, if he plays up front with Tevez, or in the hole behind him, then City will probably continue to rely on Tevez scoring all their goals.

And brilliant form can only last so long. He may be up to it for another season, he may not.

So I wouldnt be surprised if they still struggled for goals at times next season, even though Silva will bring a bit more fancy football to the pitch.

If the Jones' are winning leagues and Champions Leagues then yeah, I guess we better keep up with them.

The Jones' we are talking about here, last won a trophy 30+ years ago, nevermind winning leagues and European cups.

They're also the next Chelsea. You know, the current PL champs?

And that should tell you that we should just get on with our business, without panicking, just like we did when Chelsea first got into the money and won a couple of titles. Sir Alex quietly got on with his business, and the result of that wasn't half bad, was it?

City's squad could be as good as ours if they manage to sign three or four more players of this calibre.

do you think sir alex will win another european cup before he retires?

Yeah we done alright.

I'm more worried about Barca and R.Madrid anyway tbh. We're going to struggle against that Barca team and any team under Mourinho.

We've done alright?

Three titles on the trot, a CL title and another CL final...It's the best 3-year period in the history of Manchester United!

Never understood the fans being worried about Barca and Real Madrid. When did they become our rivals? When did they become a part of the Premiership?

We've played Barca 10 (TEN) times in the 100+ years since we were founded, and Real Madrid 8 times!

I was taking the piss :smirk: We've done fasntastic. But remember we had a certain Tevez and Ronaldo at the peak of that!

Barca and Real are not our PL rivals but they are certainly our European rivals. If we want to add to our 3 CL trophies we need to be beating the likes of them. Which is going to be increasingly difficult.

Yeah, he is not a slow player, nor is he clumsy, but his lack (or total drop?) of form could turn their game slower as a team, perhaps.

But yeah, you're mostly right. How much did they pay again?

The certain Tevez played a fractional role in our success over the three years. And good players will always come an d leave at United.

My point is, why worry about teams that we are more likely NOT to play, than we are to play?

Just read the news that Silva has joined and with quotes too, have to say £27m is an awful lot for a player who's not really proven yet, talent or not. There's been an awful lot of hype about this player and yet he's got to move over to a new country, weather, culture and type of football. Call it bitterness but I hope he kind of flops or causes havoc like Robinho did. 24 is not exactly young either, he's like nearly a full year older than Nani.

Berbatov for example was that price and already had 2 great seasons in the league and was settled yet he hasn't worked out the best so must be more risk with these kind of signings. All that said though, the financial power they have or player draw, when they aren't even in the Champions league is mental. Their squad is getting pretty special you have to admit, its going to be an interesting few years in the future if this carries on.

Agree with the lad above though, we've earnt ours and built it up, various rebuilds over the years and used our earnings or success to buy our big record signings. These guys are spending way above what their true level at this time is, like Blackburn and Chelsea did. Just a shame we can't spend our full £90m profit on the club/transfers because that would be more than enough to compete with the big signings also.

Given

Richards----Toure----Kompany----Bridge/Boateng

Barry-----Y Toure

Silva ------------------------Robinho

---------Tevez-------

Dzeko (if they get him, probably will)

Decent enough. Although the defence is still gash. Boateng looks good though.

Robinho will not play for City next season, he has slagged off the club many times, no chance he will come back play for them.

If City want him back (as they've stated), there's feck all Robinho can do about it.

If City don't want to sell him, he's staying.

On his day, with class players around him, he's fantastic.

How long is it before there is a double page spread in The Sun by Ian Wright that Man City are a disgrace for signing Silva when they already have Shaun Wright Philips?

Last three seasons

Santa Cruz: 33 Goals in 92 Matches
Owen: 32 in 96 Matches

Not much difference I would say.
That's pretty random though, except it isn't random, it's framed in a way to back your point. Last two seasons: Owen 19 goals in 66 apps/35 starts, Santa Cruz 10 goals in 49 apps/28 starts. Last season: Owen 9 goals 31 apps/11 starts, Santa Cruz 4 goals in 22 apps/7 starts.

“I want to say that I always hoped to come to Manchester City and I am excited about my future there. They are a club with a great future with fantastic players. I want to be an important player in Manchester City’s history.”

Well that wont be hard will it. Glad to see you got your dream move you always wanted David, although you're quite obviously talking bullshit.

What a joke you are

I've already listed 21 players who can be considered better than Tevez, plus a few lesser rated players I would be more fearful of. Without discussing defense minded players. Funny how everyone went quiet after that, once they realise they were talking out of their arse.

The joke is that you posted in a previous thread saying Tevez is the 3rd best player in the world.

p.s. I'm open to a lot of friendly bets regarding Tevez and Rooney next season.
