No, probably not. Even so I see Citeh, Arsenal and Chelsea and us taking the top 4. It is going to be very challenging to take the top spot and although I hate myself for saying it, if I was completely neutral and I had to bet on placements as things stand I'd probably predict 3rd or 4th for us. That is still a very respectable position but we also need to hope that some of our youth makes the step up this season because the following (2011-12) season we are going to lose Gaz, Giggsy, Scholes and VDS (at the very least).

I agree that us and the 3 you mention will probably fight it out for the top 4 spots, but have higher expectations for us, barring injuries.

They are still the team to beat.

Not too shabby.

Arguably 4 of the top 5 players in the world in there.

Messi
Xavi
Iniesta
Villa

Telegraph says its a done deal for around £25m and he will be on £160k

Now all we need to do is get them to buy Berba off us for £25m. :D

£160k, that's fecking insane. How are other clubs supposed to compete with that?

By beating them on the pitch?

At the end of the day, like with Chelsea, they can buy as many players they like - but they can only play 11 at a time, if I am not wrong.

Quite simply they are not.

Platinis is wrong about many things but about this he spot on. These arabs once bored will leave they have no business plan that will work. It will end in tears.

I see no "good" teams went for or could afford Yaya or Silva then :p

Makes some interesting comparisons.

Look at the squads. They really do.

Hope Robinho stays in the prem. He's been a joy to watch in the wc

No they do not. Our defenders dick all over theirs.

Our central midfield played theirs off the park last season at Eastlands and has more stamina, steel and experiance about it than theirs. Signing Toure isn't going to change that.

The only area where they beat us is in terms of wingers/forwards with Robinho, Silva and Adebayor as well as Tvez providing more flair than we have in the final 3rd.

I'd still back us to wipe the floor with them anyday as their defence is a joke and they are more a collection of flair players up front than an actual cohensive unit.

van der Sar - The Man
Kuszczak - Could be A Man
Amos - Erm

Brown - Good, hope he stays healthy
Evra - One of the Best
Fabio - Talent, will develop
Rafael - Will develop, talent
Rio - Tower
Evans - Tower to be
Neville - Foundation of tower
O'Shea - Leaning tower
Vidic - Other Tower
De Laet - Future
Smalling - Future

Anderson - Time to shine
Carrick - Do or die
Fletcher - Monster
Gibson - Awesome shot, good for the squad
Giggs - Legend, to be studied by NASA
Hargreaves - I pray for you every night
Park - Useful, little dynamo
Nani - Turning into his idol
Obertan - Jury out
Scholes - Legend
Valencia - Gets things done,no need to smile

Berbatov - Thorn in my side, love you but step it up ffs
Diouf - The One, whatever this will turn out to mean
Macheda - If the good life does not turn his head, can be great in the future
Owen - Respect for your past, hope for your future
Rooney - The barometer of our team. Will be even better next season.
Welbeck - Talent yes, bulk no, gangliness definitely
Hernandez - The Killer Mariachi, have great hopes for him

Given - Class
Hart - Class
Taylor - meh

Boateng - not proven in Prem
Boyata - meh
Bridge - never will be a full man again
Garrido - decent
Lescott - decent
Onuoha - meh
Richards - good but injury prone
Toure - best days were with Arsene
Vidal - Sassoon
Zabaleta - decent

Barry - same WC Barry?
Ibrahim - meh
Ireland - inconsistent
Adam Johnson - shame he plays for them
Michael Johnson - unknown entity
Kompany - plays for Belgium, inferiority complex
Vieira - Over the hill
Weiss - young and a decent prospect
Wright-Phillips - needs to practise crossing with step dad as target man
de Jong - solid, card-prone
Silva - very good, not proven Prem, and without Villa and Mata
Toure - not proven Prem

Adebayor - over-rated, can be good and then disappear
Bellamy - attitude will always let him down
Caicedo - meh
Jo - meh
Santa Cruz - over the hill
Tevez - good but stupid, getting too full of himself

Based on above, we are miles better.

Well this isnt good. They already have a strong squad, especially in the attacking department. Silva will give them a bit more quality in the final third and maybe take them to the next level. Providing they gel quickly and sort out their defence I could see them taking a Champions League spot this year, at least. It's only a matter of time until they become as big a threat as Chelsea.

I hope Valencia take them to the cleaners with the price though.

What are a few more barrels to some people, just turn up the faucet...

Yes, this is starting to remind me of the Chelsea situation. They started in the first year by buying a bunch of decent players and were not that much of a threat at first... people scoffed and came with cliches like ''money can't buy you success''.
Then the next year, another influx of slightly higher quality players and they started to challenge (or win? can't remember) for the league and everything else.
Now it's only seen as normal that Chelsea are right up there challenging for all major honours. City will get there. :(

Possibly but they need to sack Mancini first.

Sure we did beat them but we didn't wipe the floor with them. All the games were close to call. And then again they did beat Arsenal and Chelsea in the league. By your standards Chelsea wiped the floor with us.

The only thing lacking for City is consistency. That's it. Their squad would be good enough to win the league if they had that. Maybe these signings will bring that? Toure for one is a consistent player. Silva isn't really.

Let's try to be honest, their squad has improved over the last two seasons and ours hasn't improved as much.

Hope Robinho stays in the prem. He's been a joy to watch in the wc

if i were robinho i wouldn't stay in the prem? for what? He's probably going to win the world cup with brasil. he'll be 26 and already won a world cup, copa america, and confederations cup (pretty much everything for brasil). He's won la liga, he can enjoy his football at santos knowing that he doesn't need to play in europe to be called up to the selecao. He'll still be highly paid. I doubt he has a burning desire to win the premiership.

If I were robinho and I won the world cup, i'd probably say feck europe and enjoy myself at santos, stay fit, and turn up for brasil everytime I get called up.

Depends on what kind of a man he is, if I was him I would try and win a European Cup before I went the way of other Brazilian royalty.
