Silva to City

One of the posters of the Valencia site I post on just mentions he thinks Valencia were not in a position of power when it came to the sale of Silva because if he recalls correctly, Silva only had a year left to run on his contract. This would be the first I've heard of it so I doubt he's correct... But I hope he is because that would make the fee all the more hilarious.

I believe it is now apparent that our "reported" earlier interest in Silva was just a smokescreen, a dummy to throw Citeh off our REAL transfer target(s). Like I said before I don't think Fergie likes being mugged and Silva will prove to be just that for Citeh, another Aquilani or more aptly the Greater Manchester Aquilani.

If we signed Silva, we'd be wanking ourselves stupid. Quality player and to compare him to Aquilani is fecking madness.

For £24m, he represents fantastic value, so when we hear there's no value in the market again, it's bullshit.

Face it everyone - we don't have a pot to piss in.

That's about £6m more than what we have spent on our summer signings, so far.

That's if you believe Smalling & Hernandez cost £10m & £8m

In fact, the Smalling fee is performance/appearance based and I doubt we have paid anywhere near the £10m quoted.

Doesn't matter. We have still paid £10m+, which is more than a pot to piss in.

You've got me. We've spent a fecking fortune. We're sorted, nothing to worry about.

FWIW - I don't give a feck who we sign or don't sign, I'll always be a United fan. But I hate the fecking bullshit that comes out of our club when they say there's no value in the market and a genuine star player goes for £24m.

If the reported wages he's getting at City are anyway near the mark then you can surely realise what the Sir Alex means by 'no value'. Its not just the transfer fee to be taken into consideration.

He's a good player and his transfer fee seems reasonable to me. The wages quoted are obscene!

Well I've heard reports of £150k plus which with the money situation at City isn't too hard to believe.

A football team is never "sorted".

A squad and a team littered with so much talent and quality as United's does not give a fan a reason to worry.

A team's success is not based on how much money is spent, but based on what quality of players are at disposal, and how does players are put together in a team.

Is Silva a "genuine star player"? I have no idea. But £24m is A LOT of money for any player.

Less than Adebaytor then.

I dunno, but thats besides the point really. Its going to cost City over £50m for the signing of Silva in the next four years and for any other club (except a few, which doesn't include us) thats a risk. City can and will gamble.

I'm not saying Silva isn't a good player, I think he's a very good player for what its worth.

I've never been particularly impressed with Silva. Good player but definitely not worth the hype he's getting here.

I agree. Maybe he turns out to be a gem at City, we will see. However, there are other players I would want United to sign.

I'm getting angry with these silly salaries, they're soon inflating the everyday world ffs

Football is fecked tbh. But as long as these teams are paying that kind of money, these players are going to go there. FIFA need to get their fingers out and get a salary cap worldwide before the game dies.

Salary cap won't work, and just leaves it up to the clubs who want to to find other ways to pay the players.

It's not FIFA's responsibility. It is up to the clubs to live within their means.

I dunno. I think it would mean that players think twice about signing for a club if it means they'll only get the maximum wage of say 50k per week. Why would they leave their current club if they were already getting that wage there?

I know there's other ways players earn money - sponsorship, image rights  etc, but surely there's a way of getting that under control too?

It's easy to say clubs ought to operate within their means but it's not working out like that. Too many clubs are broke and close to winding up/wound up and it's all because of the instant success the fans demand, thus putting a hell of a lot of pressure on the owners.

It's easy for clubs like city & chelsea that have been bankrolled - they're an exception. But clubs everywhere else are pretty much fecked and something needs doing.

You would NEVER be able to control or restrict how much players are paid, and that shouldn't be done either. Who is to say how much you are I are allowed to earn?

It is up to the clubs, and if they can't control it there should be natural consequences. And yes, the fans play their part too. Just look at posters on here, crying out for United to spend big.

You are right, something needs doing. And the clubs need to do it.

It's happening.

UEFA adopts financial fair-play rules

Edit.
Sorry about the Americanised news-site; google 'Uefa financial fair play rules' and you'll find out more info.

There's an article in Spanish on superdeporte.es where Emery talks about being able to play 4-3-3 now that they've got rid of Silva. That they needed to play their 4-(2-2)(4)-1-1 system to accomodate Silva in recent times. This is the problem delivered unto Manchester City now. If they choose to use him anywhere other than floating behind a striker they may be in for a big surprise. Although in time he could become dangerous coming in off the right.

i think last season city did play a 4411 but with tevez floating, where we seen he was very effective.

Yep, so it would be fairly sensible for City to play Silva behind Tevez... However... Manchester City...

And with Adebayor, and being linked with some top name strikers, they may not end up doing that. I mean say they get Balotelli, they'll be playing 2 up front or 3 up front. And neither works well with Silva.

Yeah but as we found out ourselves Tevez, however good he is behind a striker, is not that good at leading the line.

He was pants at it for us, apart from his 4 goal match. But that doesnt mean that what he learnt playing there didnt help him. Because on many occasions last season he led the line very well for City.

Yay. Lets write off a quality player after one poor game. I see it worked wonders with Tevez last season.
