Sergio Reguilon | Man Utd Loan with January break clause

With Chelsea playing Cucurella in the league cup, this deal might be closer than I orginally was thinking

We’ve been linked with both for a few days
Well, Chelsea stupidly went and played him in the cup last night so now he’s cup tied, plus the fact we see Reguilon as a cheaper option that will hopefully enable us to sign Amrabat as well.
Cucurella played for Chelsea yesterday in the Carabao Cup complicated things for us a he is cup tied now and we can't use him in that cup.
We wanted a break clause (so we could send him back to Chelsea in January, when hopefully Shaw and Malacia are available) but because he played for Chelsea last night, if he plays for us then Chelsea wouldn't be able to sell/loan him to anyone else in January because player's aren't allowed to play for 3 different clubs in one season.

EDIT: Apparently the loan fee for Reguilon is also cheaper, which allows more money to go towards the Amrabat fee.
This is pretty much a 'dusting off old scout reports' one. If I remember right, we wanted him off Madrid but refused to agree to a buyback option.

He had some excellent performances about 3 or 4 years ago.

Him now being cup tied after starting last night may have made an agreement more difficult.

Cheers for the info everyone. Didn't know Chelsea played him yesterday. :wenger:

Looking forward to this window being over now. It's become so silly.

I wanted him when he was at Sevilla.

Great signing if this happens imo. Much better than Cucurella.

So he's having a medical, what a weird window. Why are we signing Spurs rejects? Is that the level we're trying to achieve now?

It says everything that Daniel Levy just let us have him without any resistance whatsoever. He’s the kind of owner that would hang onto a corpse.

I have long waited for this day.

REGULON! REGULON! REGULON!
SCUTTLE DOWN THE LEEEEFFFTTTT!
CROSS IT TO THE RIIIIIIGHTTT!

If you are bringing in an emergency cover because of injury in last minutes of transfer window, the only options you will have are "rejects" of other clubs, no one will sell/loan you their first team player this close to end of transfer window.

This is a temporary loan cover ffs, will people stop moaning like we are signing an important first team player here.

It's a short term loan, while Shaw and Malacia get back. We can't dropping huge sums or tempt some big name for a temp role at this stage.

We are downgrading on Telles and that is saying something

Who cares, it's an emergency loan signing.

There are lots of things to be pissed off about this window, I struggle to see how this should be one of them.

He is quality on the ball. Good signing if true. Far better than Cucurella.

Why bring in a shite loanee and not promote a youth player then ? I doubt the difference in quality is that high..

Not updated on this guy at all. Is he really that shit like everyone says or are we just pretending to know a lot about him? I've seen him have some really good matches but been a while.

He is competent and experienced which for an emergency short term loan is about as good as you are going to get. Dalot will probably start over him and we may well use him for rotation in cup games to avoid burning out Dalot and AWB whilst we wait for Shaw and Malacia to return.

Will he be out most handsome player? Also his wife is rather handsome too.

Well yes - that’s what happens where your two starting left backs get injured for the medium term and you want a player for only 6 months on loan. Weird isn’t it?

What’s the excuse for our desperation for a partner for Case?

He looked like a good player in that 19/20 Europa League, and Spurs have had a lot of managerial turnover in the interim.

Still only 26, I look forward to seeing what a decent coach (like Ten Hag) can do with him.

I honestly don’t think he will.

What’s the point of getting a LB in if you’re just going to play your RB there?

People need to realise Sergio is our new 1st choice LB for the foreseable

Please, guys. I’m not claiming knowledge her, but help me out.

We’re talking about spending relative pennies to fill assist the first team for a month maybe, and fill out the squad for a few more. I’ve only seen Reguilon really when he ridiculed us in the EL SF for Sevilla and a few more Sevilla games that year wehere he was really good, and a couple of Spurs games where I thought he was OK.

I do my google, and this is what I find:

21 years old: 14 games for Real Madrid
22 years old: Brilliant season and EL winner for Sevilla. Sports journo’s write about the hottest LB on the market.
23 years old: An article in mid november about Reguilon solving all Mourinho’s problems by being sensational for Spurs
24 years old: Talk of Real Madrid wanting him back because of good performances. Perez/Ancelotti: It was Zidane’s mistake to let him go.
- 6 caps for Spain.
25 years old: played 67 games over two seasons for Spurs until groin injury, Conte wants to prioritize others for new season. Still, Atletico, Napoli and Lazio want to loan him regardless. Inbetween injuries he plays 12 games for Atletico.
26 years old: It’s a scandal to use him as a stop gap for United

I realize he must have a lot of really bad games lately that people have watched, but still: How can it be so crazy to think he’ll be useful as competition for Dalot and Malacia for a few months, when Atletico, Lazio and Napoli thought he would be useful for them as lately as 12 months back?

Finally a nuanced and reflective post among all the puerile panic in here today. I though I was the only sane person in here.

Wait, is it my own?

Oh well.

not sure about that, I think far more likely cover for Dalot

If we’re doing that we’d have stuck with Fernandez/Dalot

He’s a specialist LB. I am 99.9% certain he’ll be our first choice. I may be wrong but considering it’s an emergency loan to cover injuries to our LB, it makes too much sense not to not start him

They tried to sign Alphonso Davies as cover for Shaw but he rejected us saying 'this is clearly a short-term fix for you guys, you'd have to be painfully stupid to think you're going to bring me or anyone of my standard for what will be little more than a cameo role'.

Ooooh check you out with your reasonable takes. You have no place here.

This is a weird turn of events. Last time I checked the forum the Cucurella deal was basically done. Now we're back on to Reguilon, who a lot of people seemed to rave about last time we considered signing him. Now everyone seems to agree he is shit. Havent watched him enough to say myself, but definitely remember him being hyped on here pre- Spurs.
