Sergio Reguilon | Man Utd Loan with January break clause

It’s just for 3 months though

Yeah I’d say he’s a fit for those 3 months too. Cucurella’s mostly played in a back three, so if the argument is that he’d be able to play instead of Varane then I’m not really buying it. Rather Lindelof then Evans to be honest.

The downside is that Reguilon, at least for Spurs have played in a wing-back system. Will he leave us too open?

This is a weird turn of events. Last time I checked the forum the Cucurella deal was basically done. Now we're back on to Reguilon, who a lot of people seemed to rave about last time we considered signing him. Now everyone seems to agree he is shit. Havent watched him enough to say myself, but definitely remember him being hyped on here pre- Spurs.

I think Cucurella was maybe -provided he found back his best form- a more difficult task to manage because this would have brought questions about the pecking order at LB. Reguilon is a more clear cut stop gap, back up solution. Lower sticker price and wages so even if he did perform admirably and we'd be interested bringing him permanently it's less of an headache.

Hopefully we've been able to get ourselves a good deal by actually having a couple of options and picking the best deal instead of paying the (loan) asking price.

Its not that. Cucurella making an app yesterday complicated a proposal for a 6 month loan as he wouldn't be able to register for a third club after that.

I still don't understand this, potentially going back to his original club would be considered playing for a third club?

This club man.

3 games in and I just don't want to be a football fan. Can accept losing, no problem it's part of the game. But you'd like to believe that your club do all they can to be the best the can be in sporting terms. This club is just a shell of it's former self. Existing purely to make the Glazers as wealthy as possible.

The board are totally complicit

If we’re doing that we’d have stuck with Fernandez/Dalot

He’s a specialist LB. I am 99.9% certain he’ll be our first choice. I may be wrong but considering it’s an emergency loan to cover injuries to our LB, it makes too much sense not to not start him
I agree with this, we wouldn’t sign a LB if we were happy with our existing choices. He is coming to play.

I think it means Chelsea can't then sell him in Jan to another club so he's stuck there.

Yeah I'm not commenting so much on United's rationale (which I suspect is more down to being a cheaper option) than the landscape following it.

I think in both cases you have a player that we know have a higher ceiling but have not showed it in recent past. I think Cucurella potentially was more of an handful of things turned the better.

Remember when people used the ‘who cares that he cost X we have the money’ excuse for blowing hundreds of millions on absolute dog shite

Enjoy Reguilon

Well sometimes when players are written off (rightfully so here) they sometimes surprise you. Gonna delude myself into believing Erik can get Sevilla player out of him. Certainly be a baptism of fire if he makes his debut at Emirates.

A lot better going forward than Cucurella. Hopefully can Ten Hag can take advantage and utilise his strengths.

Not thrilled. Cucurella looked a more interesting option.

But for what it is, an emergency left back it's okay.

If reguilon means getting Amrabat because he’s cheaper then this Is the best solution. Our past loan deals have been shambolic though

You've lost me here. You think if we hadn't spaffed cash in the past we'd ironically spend a fortune on a top class left back rather than bring in a loan for short term injury cover?

Why bring in a shite loanee and not promote a youth player then ? I doubt the difference in quality is that high..

Have you watched our U21s recently?

Lost to Palace and Leeds in our first two games.

The difference in quality is enormous.

Not just left back is it? We’ve needed a midfielder all summer and probably another attacker and a backup keeper

Deadline day and we’re doing a whip round PL clubs to take any of their shite on loan

Signing a player not good enough for Spurs. What is going on at my club. At least we didnt pay £60 mil for him.

Why are people talking as if we’re signing him permanently/starting for us long-term?!

It’s an emergency loan. Who do people expect us to get?

You posted that people who didn't care how we spend money should "Enjoy Reguilon". This loan signing isn't a product of previous excess, and spending a fortune on a left back now would be precisely the kind of reckless spending you're criticising others for being blasé about in the first place.

And yes, we need other positions filled and we're clearly being tight right now but this loan is surely not linked to the many factors leading to our relative lack of investment surely?

On loan. We already have Shaw and Malacia in his position. It's temporary. Relax. We are in the right to complain but in this case it's unnecessary.

What’s going on is our first and second choice LB’s are both injured for a few months, so we’re looking to bring in an emergency loan option until they return. Someone who can play a few games before being made surplus to requirements.

It actually makes sense to have Regulion as a place holder until Shaw returns. The January break clause also seems to be a factor in the loan.

And regarding Fernandez, he's never played fullback consistently at a high enough level and there was problems with him defensively at reserve level. So he needs to be sent on loan to a club that will hopefully utilise him as a fullback.

Lads its an emergency loan signing. One of the more sensible and quick pieces of business we have done

Has Spurs agreed with us to send him back in January?

So we're getting a shite full back so that we can replace an average midfielder with another midfielder who were not 100% sure is much better than the player he's replacing.

Honestly we're a fecking mess.

Better to get another body in just in case. What if Fernandez gets a chance and is way out of his depth? We are then a Dalot injury away from being left with AWB and AF as our only options at full back.

I’m ok with this as an inexpensive stop gap while we wait for Shaw and Malacia. We can’t go months with only two senior full backs fit. Hopefully Fernandez will still get some game time in rotation.

If it allows us funds for another midfielder then it’s clearly better to get him over Cucurella.

This is like a Sabitzer or Weghorst loan signing - a body to fill in the gap since we’re down to our bone in terms of squad depth.
