He may not exactly be a castoff, but DiMaria felt like one. My point is that i dont want us spending fortunes on players that Real dont want in general.
Well, if you mean "Real", are u talking of Perez or the fans?
I think the fans want him to stay. It's Perez that's acting the idiot with Ramos.

Also, Perez and his cronies didn't want Di Maria. The fans would not have wanted him sold.

These are good player... at the very least very good players.

That's true. However he would be joining us for all the right reasons ie to win honours. There's no nostalgia involved which had tormented JSV and Di Maria career at OT.

I have this bad feeling that we're getting Ramos because Woodward doesn't want to look stupid in letting DDG go for some ridiculous sum. We need to stop being naive in terms of players. Once a player is 2 years away from the end of the contract than he either signs another one or he should be sold. Such rule should apply irrespective if the player is Heinze (a renowned mercenary) or Gary Neville

Otamendi has one season in a very good league. It's kind of like buying Fellaini/Coquelin for big money off the back of this last season. Ramos is a World Cup, Euro, Champ League winning player.

Thing is, not all Real "cast-offs" are poor or under-performing players. Di Maria was arguably their best player that season before he joined us. Real just has a strange revolving door policy, especially when it comes to their attacking players. And managers.

So you want players that Madrid has "ruined"? Or have I misunderstood?
Yep! maybe ruined needs more explanation though.... players whose form and confidence they have destroyed, like VDV, Robben etc... who then leave Real and manage to regain their former quality. As opposed to players like DiMaria who was successful but no longer fitted their plans!

the purpose is to win honors, however, the ability to make that purpose a real possibility is a different story I think. Having a ball-treasuring established leading defender who is even versatile enough, I will gladly take that.

yeah the situation of DDG is quite a mess, it's just all the bad things happen at the same time (so rough transitions in the space of two years regarding club hierarchy, pressure from his own side all coincided). I believe this kind of a mess won't have a chance to come about again. Even then, I think we still hold good cards in the saga to demand a worthy fee for him, nowhere those humiliating sums reported

Madrid do alright with our cast-offs like Beckham, Van Nistlerooy, Heinze, Hernandez. I don't mind taking a few of theirs.

The sad.thing we will be having fewer playersnin the mould of Garry. Players who breathe United.

I think we've got a very romantic view regarding players. Ultimately most of them see football as a job and put their interest first. They will only become 'loyal servants to the club' once they got no better options. Its time we stop being naive and we start putting the club's interest first

If you think that Beckham and RVN were cast offs than you're truly naive

Does anyone know if there is anything in the Spanish media about Madrid getting a bit of a run around by Woodward? It's unusual for their usual bully method to backfire.

If this falls through now, should we blame the announcement of the Phil Jones contract?

I don't understand the point you are trying to make? Why would you rather taste like rancid rhino piss than nectar? It's you that will be theoretically tasting them.

I was hypothetically referring to them tasting their own tears. Not particularly usual for someone to hover over someone when they cry & lap up their tears. Maybe we have a different outlook on these things though?!

Why break the habit of a lifetime

Imagine the scenes across the world of football if a Phil Jones corner is converted by a Sergio Ramos header. Total centre back football.

That isn't 'win win', because if we don't get him we've missed out on a great player who's won the lot, and if we do we've got a dirty fecker who you don't really want at the club.

If we dont get him there are plenty more fish in the sea. Its nice to have a transfer where i will be happy if we get him but not bothered if we miss out.

Someone on Rawk called him the Spanish David Luiz
He's better than Luiz but it's an apt comparison in many ways. He's very good on the ball and a good athlete; he's also rash, lacks discipline and is a humongous cnut.

Both have a very punchable face and are overrated because of their technique and their contributions to attacking.

This ones going to drag a long way yet I think.

Doubt it. Madrid want Ramos and DDG settled before the tour, one way or another. Ramos has made his feelings clear via his brother. DDG doesn't want to return to training. All parties don't want this dragging out.

I'll never ever understand how people can predict with some accuracy when certain transfer sagas will end.

Its impossible man - especially with a transfer like this. I'll be really shocked if we sign him tbh - just cant see it happening. Seems too good to be true & we've all been here so many times with other players. Would be a wonderful signing & i just hope we dont put all our eggs in one basket & end up with plan Z..

If Real will sell him then they also have to prepare a replacement for him because he's such a big player for them. Just like you said, I'm not sure it'll be resolved that quickly.

So a few days ago the story was Ronaldo called Ramos from his holiday and now Ramos only wants United! Great work Agent Ronnie

Have you watched him regularly in the last few years? I thought that was the case a few years ago but he's improved immensely, and is now easily one of the three best defenders in the world for me.

It really puzzles me that so many have reservations about this one. I can understand not wanting us to pay over the odds for a 29-year-old but I thought his quality was universally acknowledged by now.

I've said it before but it looks like it needs saying again, the obsession with the price is crazy.
Ramos is without a doubt one of the top 10 (if not top 5) defenders in the world right now and our current bid of 40mill EUROS works out at just over one third of what Adidas are paying us each year just to have their name on our kit and on some boards at our stadium. It's a drop in the ocean for a club of our size.

I admire your optimism Mani, but this is United & we never do these things simply. It'll probably be next Summer by the time we sign him, if we do at all..
You mean one like Herrera?Madrid are not patient enough i would say.:)

Big time man.

If he does leave to go to us - it'll mark a massive change in the landscape. Real are always the club that unsettles a top player & they get what they want all the time. This being huge for us, would be an understatement..

Yeah I dont get it either, it goes around too in Coleman thread, lots of accounants giving their opinion on is it a good price or not.

If we Sign Ramos, I'd love for us to refuse to sell De Gea, even if he goes for free next season.

Just something hilarious about us keeping Dave and taking one of their best players for their audacity

Initially i thought we are under pressure in selling DDG, now it look like other way round,RM with Ramos.Well done Woody.
