What people keep ignoring is that the "scheme" - if there was one - was obviously mainly one designed for the purpose of damage control as far as DDG is concerned.
What we should have done is to make him sign an extension at some earlier point - nobody will disagree with that. But he didn't - and that's what we had to work with this summer.

After LVG's comments last night about his transfer being "unfavourable" it seems he wants him to commit or feck off. I wonder will De Gea put in the kind of performances we've seen from him the last two seasons? Something tells me we won't.
I could see him start off the season ok, but gradually deteriorate as the season unfolds. Something similar to Di Maria basically.

The situation is "unfavourable" as such - nobody wants to be in it. But if DDG acts like a professional, it's not necessarily an untenable situation.
It all comes down to how the involved parties deal with the conditions as they stand. My main point is that I don't see how we could have handled it significantly better. Trying to get something out of it (Ramos) while still retaining the option to - simply - let DDG's contract run out, isn't an idiotic play as such in my book.
DDG will leave this season for around 30m and we will get the Dutch young guy who knows LVG philosophy

I still don't understand why people even care about this. I would support him if we signed him but would rather he stayed at Madrid and we signed someone else.
We should charge commission all these contracts we get other teams to give their players, its like super agents
Oh we handled it perfectly, we've ran down a huge portion of transfer window and I doubt Real will want him if he is picked for the CL Qualifier match.
As you say the key part in this is if he does stay, will he continue to act professional? I've my reservations about that.

We obviously lack it at times and that thing right there should be enough reason to seal it and then wait for decision from Ramos or whatever the f*ck he is planning to do with his career.
People need to understand that waiting not always paying off especially if you're working within a time frames and have already dates of competitive matches ahead.

I still don't get why the ''all the time we wasted on Ramos, we couldddaa got Owtamenday in yo!'' people can not get it through their thick heads that we were simply never interested in him. It was not Plan A: Ramos, Plan B: Otamendi. It was Ramos or nothing. So van Gaal and Woodward didn't waste time on Ramos and missed out on signing Otamendi early.

Apparently you don't care what I said in the first place. Signing Otamendi wouldn't mean ruling out waiting for Ramos deal completion but for such a narrow way of thinking I didn't expect you to get anything.

To be fair, either Woodward or LVG or both did say that if they can't get a target they have a list with different choices.
Lots of people jumped on Otamendi because he's had a semi-decent season and seems to be making himself available.
Would prefer another plan B to be honest.

Otamendi is available on the market for the serious price as perhaps one of the very few quality defenders out there left this summer. If you don't like the transfer speculations then what the hell are you doing on the football forum during the summer in the first place ?

I don't have a problem with speculation, I have a problem with the people who are making it out as if we consciously postponed the Otamendi signing as a sort of Plan B option during the Ramos chase and that we have therefore made a stupid miscalculation. The reality was always that we (LVG) weren't even interested in the beardy hardman, thus we didn't delay nor screw up anything Otamendi related during the 3 or 4 weeks we were waiting on Ramos.
Well then you have a problem... I want to ask you now how you're gonna deal with it ?
Waiting on Ramos sounds like a deal may be done but requires time to get things calmer between clubs. If he'll arrive then I rest my case but in other way around we're wasting time and energy on a drama staged by him and his brother which sounds even more ridiculous than supposed lack of interest in Otamendi. If LVG and Woody can pull this one off then they'll be praised to end of the year and longer for that.
