Really not sure I get the point of this. I think he's a similar level to Lindegaard and I've high hopes for Johnstone. Definitely not good enough to ever be first choice.

Well you get my point. He obviously wasn't wanted. Something must've happened while there because he was loaned to Monaco. Probably just lost his place after injury
I wasn't sure if not re-signing was his choice as opposed to them not offering him an extension. I think he was mostly back-up last season but I could be wrong. This signing seems purely based off LvG knowing him and the fact he's free, in truth I'd rather see Johnstone given a chance as the #2, Romero lacks agility IMO.
Unless lindegaard is being sold too, I don't quite get the need for this.
I'd rather see Johnstone given number 2 as well, but I think LVG wants experience. Romero's agility is not bad, he did save a few penalties against Holland at the WC
He's a bit erratic and flappy but a decent keeper. Probably a slight downgrade on post-injury Valdés but not massively. Anyone who thinks we're buying him as a de Gea replacement is off their rocker.
I'm not sure he's better than Lindegaard. At least when he was playing regularly he was fairly solid, cant say the same with Romero
He is first choice for one of the biggest international teams around. Surely he isn't shit? He played a WC final and a copa final in the last 12 months.

His penalty record is decent yeah, but I think his reaction agility is poor and I am not sure how he'll fair with our high-line requiring him to perform as a sweeper keeper at times. Of course with a bit of luck he'll spend 99% of the season on the bench.
Lindegaard isn't crap at all, especially considering he's required to be 2nd choice. This guy isn't the dog's bullocks either judging by the thread.
Decent enough for a number 2. Valdes is going and Lindegaard isn't rated by LVG so a cheap, all right second choice would be a sensible signing.
Its always politics and things going on behind the scenes that lead to things like Zanetti and Cambiasso being left out and mediocre players being picked instead. It'll be the same with the keepers
As for Romero he started 9 league games with former Arsenal one-game reject Emiliano Viviano starting 29 league games for Sampdoria. What was the reason for that? I certainly dont watch Sampdoria so I dont know. And why didnt Monaco want to keep him after loaning him the year before?

I thought Lindegaard was weak when he came in last season, but lets remember his first season where he played far more often and looked fairly solid until we stuck with De Gea every week.

Lindegard was good whenever he played. last year(13-14) he was wven motm vs Aston villa I think when he saved 3 shots at point blank range. During 11-12 he was first choice Over de gea for a while. He isn't world class but I expect he will easily find a club in the lower half of the PL or even in the championship. He is as good as guys like fabianski pantilimon and the likes for instance

The only United manager that rated him was Fergie, since he left Lindegaard has played 1 PL game. In fact the only time he played was when De Gea was struggling and needed taking out of the lime light. And even then, he was as average as anything. Decent shot stopper, quite good handing..and thats about it. Terrible in the air, no organisation, terrible kicker, not commanding, panics under pressure...Moyes didn't rate him and LVG has openly tried to sell him, but no one wants him. He's 31 with 6 caps for Denmark, the last in 2011, and less then 100 senior professional appearances. That tells you all you need to know.
Seems like a great guy, and he's a massive United fan which is great, but he has no right to be playing for United.
He's better than both Ospina and Chesney. Even then, you named GKs from 5 clubs. One of whom was quite likely not brought in to be 2nd choice either. Regardless, being able to name so few should tell you he isn't shit.

Both of those are younger keepers, who have been #1 keepers for top European clubs, and between then have nearly 80 International caps. Lindegaard is a 31 year old, with 6 caps, less then 15 PL appearances for United in 4 years, and 56 appearences for Aulsand (who? Exactly)

I did go overboard which is why I edited to day he isn't worse. Being #1 for Arsenal isn't a big deal, there's a reason they bought Cech. Lindegaard was at a club that had VDS and then De Gea. I don't care whether or not he'd be #1 for any side and couldn't be arsed comparing him with 20 keepers. My point was simply that he isn't shit and he isn't. He's a good keeper but certainly not good enough for a club like ours. He's a very good back up and would have remained so if not for Van Gaal's specific requirements.
He isn't United quality first choice but he is an able second choice. He is much better than vorm and bogdan(keepers of 5th and 6th placed teams). He is what most mid table teams go for. A reject from a top 4 team. I don't think we were going to sell him before valdes came in. If he is to be sold he will easily get buyers. When mannone and pantilimon can get buyers. lindegard is much better than them
