Sergio Canales

"Instead the player agreed a mega bucks deal with Madrid, which will net the kid about 6m euros over the next five years, net racing Santander in the region of 7m euros and the bonus of having the player on loan for the next season and a half..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

That works out at €23k per week for the next 5 years & with the tax break being abolished for footballers in Spain - you can take half of that away already. He could have come to England for alot more money, but its a good deal for his family & Racing I suppose. Not exactly sure if Racing merited anything out of this, they let his contract run down & only for the new man coming in & playing him - then he might have been on the youngmans scrapheap in the summer & starting all over again.

Shame he chose the Franco cnuts - he could really feck up his life goin to that bastardised club like many others before him. Its seems Racing are another club on Reals payroll!

Is the move to Madrid officially confirmed?

This story is running this morning (albeit from not the most reputable source)

People.co.uk - SIR ALEX FERGUSON IN SERGIO CANALES BID

SIR ALEX FERGUSON IN SERGIO CANALES BID
HOTLINE SPECIAL ... TRANSFER WINDOW SLAMS SHUT AT 5PM TOMORROW
Alan Nixon

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to make a top-secret dash to Spain to grab teenage superstar Sergio Canales from under the noses of Real Madrid.

Ferguson has United's private jet on standby and will travel to Santander this week to meet the 18-year-old attacking midfielder and his father and agent, Angel.

United are keen to wrap up a pre-contract agreement for the Racing Santander starlet who has impressed a host of Europe's top clubs, including Spanish giants Real.

Fergie has been in contact with the Canales camp for the past 10 days and was set to sit down with them last weekend.

Mission But Arsenal's late attempt to sign Chris Smalling from Fulham forced a change of plan.

Instead of going to Spain, Ferguson made a secret visit to Fulham's team hotel in Lancashire to personally persuade the highly-rated England Under-21 centre-half to move north.

Ferguson's next mission is Canales, who was thought to be on the brink of signing for Real Madrid but nothing is official and the wily United chief thinks he can sneak in.

United want Canales badly as he is relatively cheap and could have the same impact as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Canales' father has already met United academy officials as well as visiting Arsenal and Chelsea - but news of a potential Manchester City bid sparked Ferguson into life.

While City sent their chief scout and a director, the United boss has personally swung into action and has the bit between his teeth.

Canales' contract at Racing runs out in the summer, so he is free to speak to any foreign club and they are queuing up for his services.

The Spanish media have even quoted his dad saying he has agreed to go to Real, but United know that he has left the door open for them.

Real are believed to have agreed to pay Racing around £5million and then loan Canales to them for a year, but Fergie will attempt to hijack the deal.

Seems like they are making a transfer story based on Graham Hunter's interview which is posted on last page.

It looked like the Madrid move was a done deal at the start of the week. Madrid, Racing and Canales' dad all seemed to be saying he wanted the Madrid deal.

But then it went oddly quiet - which seems odd with the window about to close. Now if only we could get a muppet gif of SAF stealing Canales from under Perez' nose.

As for the, is he worth the fuss question - the Fabregas comparison doesn't look far wrong.

I can't see why any young player would want to move to Madrid. If the lad has any sense he would tell Madrid to feck off. If he's willing to leave Spain at such a young age that would be great, otherwise staying at Racing would make the most sense.

I'd love that. Having not seen him play, I've decided he's going to be class based on the goals agaisnt Sevilla and that Sid Lowe piece.

He really should just stay where he is though.

Probably some made up stuff but, would be interesting if SAF learned from the Ramsey deal that if he wants a player, what a personal touch can do to convince them to choose United.

The stories do become more interesting at the close of transfer windows though (and right at the start).

Just to add a bit of local colour. Canales is playing for Racing (he's sub) against Getafe tonight - ie: he's in Madrid. Handy for anyone with papers to sign.

To be fair Ferguson's so long in the tooth that he probably learned that a good 30 years ago.

I thought he was more calm and composed infront of goal.. Pogue or someone suggested similar to Iniesta..

I don't actually remember what 18 year old Iniesta played like, but Iniesta still doesn't score many goals (though he's had some handy ones of course).

I remember 18 year old Fabregas looking more mature and in control than any 18 year old playing in central midfield seemed entitled to be. Canales has nothing like Cesc's experience at the same age, he's only played a dozen or so games, but he still stands out. Throw in the goals and he stands out a lot. I don't know how much the goalscoring has been a feature of his play as a youth team player, I didn't see him play until this season.

Sadly, AS are reporting that he's still expected to sign for Madrid, and that the delay relates to who he'll play for next season. Racing want an eighteen month loan. Madrid want him to do pre-season with them and then decide whether to keep him with the squad or loan him back.

Still, adds a bit of last minute sparkle to the transfer window.

The 18-year-old Iniesta moved well on the ball, but with that weedy physique he certainly wasn't an early developer. Somebody like Ivan de la Pena would have been considering more promising at the same age.

It doesn't make sense to learn from the best players in world or be coached by the best coaches where the facilities are as good as they can be?
That makes no sense. If he moves to Madrid it would be because of his potential. If he can't make the team in a couple of years than he isn't good enough. At least yet.

Don't know how you can say anything else considering that Giggs, Scholes, Nevilles, Beckham, Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Brazilian twins, O'Shea, Brown and Fletcher all came to United at a young age and are still here.

Real has Casillas, Raul, Guti, Ramos, Marcelo, Higuain and other before them have as well. Arbeloa and Granero went away and came back.

It's all about mentality. Big fish in a small pond or join a big ass pond with big fish and grow up to be equal to them.

He's starting tonight in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semi v Athletico starting now (Sky Sports 2). De Gea (aka goalkeeper no.128 we are apparently after) is starting for Athletico.

Beautifully executed volley from Simao.

He ll end up at Madrid for sure...United's bid will only result in Madrid having to pay a bit more..

He wasnt great tonight, then again his team's overall performance wasnt one to remember.
That's Racing ultimately out the copa now.

He had a good first half, but Racing as a team had an awful second half. His movement is very good, his passing around the edge of the box was very good and as we've all seen he's a good finisher on either foot. He also looks bigger than the 5'9 that his wiki has him down as, or maybe Racing are just a team of midgets so he looks tall among them. Might have been a smart move for Valencia to let Silva go this window as he can still play in the champions league and would retain his value and then get Canales in to replace him. He's obviously nowhere near as polished yet, but he's been more effective in the final third this la liga season.

Re his height. He's probably still growing. No reason he can't end up a 6 footer.

Marca and AS reporting the deal has been done today, but not yet formally signed.

Canales ya es del Real Madrid - MARCA.com

Basically it says Madrid will pay 5m and he'll do the pre-season with them, with the expectation he'll then return to Racing for another year. If Madrid don't let the loan continue, and take him for next season themselves, they pay an extra fee.

Apparently.

Who knows, maybe in a few years we'll get in a exchange deal when Madrid come after Diouf

Valencia never had a chance of signing such a kid.

You should probably have told them that before they made their offer to his father.

Had they have sold Silva or another of their starting attacking players they'd have had a bit of money to make a good offer to him whilst also offering him first team football which Real Madrid will not be able to offer yet. And he'd be able to stay in Spain which he's expressed a desire to do. He'd also be able to gain experience in the europa league.

There would have been lots of good reasons he might have gone with them. But it looks like Real Madrid have found the right deal for him with him staying on loan at Racing where I'm sure he'll learn a lot from Munitis.

Even if I could why would I? It's much more fun seeing them prove feck wits like yourself. :p

They were never going to compete with the likes of Real for this kid. Nothing they did would have mattered. European Giants wanted him and only a big club was going to get him, one way or another.

Thats not true at all. All this talk has come very early for him and sometimes players in his position choose a good but smaller club first of all instead of a "european giant" so that they can first make sure they can get into the team and then when they've proven themselves there, they can move on to one of the top teams.

Guillem Balague column: Why Manchester United won't be signing Spain sensation Sergio Canales of Racing Santander - MirrorFootball.co.uk

We keep reading that Manchester United are in the race to sign teenage Spanish sensation Sergio Canales: forget it.

That race is already over – and Real Madrid are the winners. While it is true that the Racing Santander player’s father and agent had been in the UK meeting with Arsenal and that he did meet with representatives from Man City: United have missed the boat.

The player’s father wanted his son to sign for Madrid and Jorge Valdano – who influences both recruitment and selection at the Bernabeu - convinced the pair that Real was the ideal destination. Canales is out of contract at the end of the season and aside from finalising a few clauses with his current club, the player has agreed everything with Real Madrid.

To be honest, no one has listened to that cnut since we signed Torres for the third time.

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign teenage midfielder Sergio Canales from Racing Santander, the club announced.

Canales, 18, has announced himself as a major talent for the future since coming through Racing's ranks, scoring five goals in 11 appearances for the first team this season.

That form saw him linked with several of Europe's top clubs in January, but while he stayed put last month, he will be moving on in the summer.

''Real Madrid C.F. and Racing de Santander have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergio Canales Madrazo,'' said a Real Madrid statement. ''The contract, which will link the player to Real Madrid CF over the next six seasons, will enter into force from 1 July 2010.''

No fee was announced by either club.
