Sergio Canales

Dayum. Always injured. Feel for the lad. Such a bright prospect 24 months ago. That move to Madrid just killed him. He should have stuck with his team for at least another season to grow.

What's he up to these days?

Any movement by him this window? How's he doing anyway?

And he scored. So it's all good and great, but what Canales is doing these days?

So, taking the thread seriously again for once, it's great to see him back in action.

He was exceptional at 17/18 - he had style, he had the wow factor of someone who looked like they could become a very special player. The cruciate injuries have basically cost him two years of his career but he's still only 22.

I don't know if a player can really be the same after that kind of injury - though Ronaldo made a decent go of it - but it would be nice to think that he can, even though he has had to adapt his playing and running style. After all, some pretty decent creative midfielders (Zidane, Xavi - no, those aren't comparisons!) aren't exactly explosive.

OK - serious mode disabled. :smirk:

Scored a nice freekick. The only worry is how long he can stay fit. Usually a max of a couple of months

Just wondering what's happening to....

Sorry, that's a lie. I arrive with news.

It looks like he's asked Valencia to sell him and they are willing to sell. Nothing been said by him but his agent has confirmed it.

Basically two cruciate ligament injuries have set him back two years. He's 22 now and still looking for game time. He wants to become a regular starter somewhere, and having spoken to the new Valencia manager he's looking for a move sooner rather than later.

I feel sorry for the kid. :(

Where do you think he'll end up @jojojo? He'll have to drop to the bottom of the league if he wants to be a regular starter at his new club, I think Rayo would be a good fit but can they afford him? Maybe if they sell Galvez.

He's still a talent and when on form he should be in the Valencia team. However Valencia keep changing managers, none of which seems to pick their best 11 players and you just cant seem to trust Canales body to stay fit for long. Personally I'd play him behind Jonas as the lone forward.

It looks like Real Sociedad may be negotiating for him. His agent (not surpringly) commented yesterday that Real would be a good move for Canales. Today Real's manager confirmed their interest, but said that there's no deal as yet.

I hope it works out.

Well that would be silly for Valencia. A team with Griezman and Vela, two players who would be big improvements on what Valencia have and you want to give them another good left footed talent to supply the bullets for them and fire them further ahead of you in the league.

You reckon Griezmann will still be at Sociedad the next 2 years?

According to SuperDeporte - the Valencia sports paper - there are believed to be offers from another club "competing for a European place" and a PL team. What's not obvious if those are sales or loan + option to buy.

I must admit I wondered if he's got a Basque grandparent or something and the "other club" is Athletic. Pure speculation multiplied by random thought there!

No, but Valencia's concern should be this season. I'd be surprised if Grizmann doesn't move to a good club this summer

Yeah, thought so too.

Last I heard, neiter Sociedad or Valencia were doing too well in La Liga (can't be arsed to look at the table now).

Who's winning the race for 4th place trophy there?

A ressurgent Athletico Bilbao. Before anyone gets excited though its in spite of quite average form from Ander Herrera

He's signing for Real Sociedad for 3.5m, which could be a good move for him and them. He's hoping for more game time and better luck.

Thought he'd gone full circle back to his old team until I realised that was Racing Santander!

I hope he can rejuvenate his career at Real Sociedad. Far too injury prone too.

Every time I see this thread bumped I expect something huge is going on.

Sooooo, how is this guy going?
