Sergio Canales

Four Premier League clubs travelled to Spain at the weekend to check on starlet Sergio Canales.

The Racing Santander midfielder is being heralded as the next big thing in Spain after a string of impressive displays.

Real Madrid have already attempted to seal a deal for services, but as yet nothing has been agreed.

It is understood that Real are leading the race, but Arsenal too are very keen to lure him to England.

During Racing's weekend clash with Real Valladolid, the club have confirmed to skysports.com that scouts from Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton were present at El Sardinero.

Together with the English clubs, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Monaco are also present.

This guy would be exactly what we need in the middle of the park. True, he might be a half-season wonder, but he is doing incredibly well for an 18year old and since he'd cost little, he's definitely worth it.

One advantage we have over Real is if he comes to United, he'll start.

really?

Why not? He's already shown more skill going forward than Anderson. Scholes will be gone next year, or if he stays he'll play the odd game.

He's an 18-yeard-old kid.

what did you think of Anderson when he was 18?

Bookmark this if he comes to a premier league team it will be Arsenal

Probably

wtf are you on about? Make a statement supported by some logic and stop asking retarded questions. If he's good enough SAF will play him in majority of games with Scholes and Anderson there to provide competition and prevent burnout.

The reason I posted this was not because of the scouts.. It was for what Johan Cruyff had to say.. I think every young footballer should take heed to his advise.. Well said Mr.Cruyff..

Would you include Cesc Fabregas and Cristiano Ronaldo in that? I'll leave Messi out as he really didn't have an option.

Young players, even ones who stay home, often don't make it the way people expect/hope.

Racing's president admitted today that they're expecting to sell and get a loan back deal ("one or two years") with somebody.

On his contract and whether it has an automatic renewal clause - it sounds like if he has then he's on an automatic renewal contract at reserve team pay (about 100k Euros per year) which in Spain would give him a release clause of a couple of million. So the rumours about a payrise and a 10m release clause seem to be the best Racing can hope for.

"At 18 you have so much to learn, as a person and as a footballer, so if you leave for a big club too soon your development isn't complete and you could end up going backwards. So much so that you could end up being ruined. There are exceptions, yes, but that's what they are, exceptions."

Except that the great headline-grabbing-at 18 kids who stay home and are great 5 years later are rare too.

I think it's fair to say that's the case for all teen sensations - not that many of them make it to the top. I'd wager that there's a better chance of reaching the top if you stay at a smaller club where there's less pressure and more guaranteed game time. If you look at the last 25 Ballon D'Or winners, only the two Ronaldos and Messi were at elite clubs prior to the age of 21. The vast majority of the remaining award winners made that career-defining move at the age of 23-26, having been carefully nurtured at small-to-medium size clubs.

Good observation that..

aye, i'd love to see him stay. He could be a legend at racing just like torres remains at atletico. Why throw yourself into a situation like at madrid when he could benifit himself and his club by singing a decent contract and moving on in 2 or 3 years for a good fee and a lot more experience.

His dad's just arrive home from his PL tour apparently.

Chelsea - most tempting offer from the English clubs.
Citeh - best paid offer.

Allegedly.

Any mention of United?

Damn...would have been great to see him turn into a quality player. Now he'll just end up getting shuffled out as soon as they sign another big star.

According to the papers, Real will loan him back to Racing for ''a season or two''.

isn't that illegal?

And if so, I don't get him. Why not just sign a two-year contract with Santander and look at offers then?

Pretty sure Real have done it before. Like when they signed Ezequial Garay from Racing, they let them keep him for half a season and brought him into their squad during the summer transfer window instead

Skybet have us favourites to sign him.

And now they don't. Down from 11/8 to 11/2 within an hour. Twat monger.

Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales has agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of the season, according to his agent.

Canales, 18, has made a major impact for his club in recent weeks and, with his contract set to expire in the summer, he has been linked with a number of top European clubs including Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, Madrid were always considered favourites to sign Canales and the playmaker's father and agent has now said he is set to move to the Bernabeu.

"The decision was Sergio's and he thinks that Real offer the best option in a sporting sense," Angel Canales said.

Reports suggest Canales has agreed a five-year contract and that Racing could receive 6 million euros in compensation.

He is a big idiot tbh, Real Madrid along with Manchester City are the worst clubs for a young players these days.

Aren't Madrid loaded with players in his position ? Does that mean Ribery is up for grabs ?

Has that ever stopped Madrid from signing players though and Ribery is more or less guaranteed to join Madrid next season. Schuster's latest interview just told us what we already knew.

I meant it from the player's POV.What could he gain from moving to Madrid this soon ?
No need to ask the question from Madrid's perspective as it's usual business with them

Pay rise and doesn't have to leave Spain. Doesn't even have to leave Santander unless he gets into the Madrid squad after pre-season training this summer.

Real? Stupid choice. It is a graveyard for young players. He really would be better playing for a medium club in Spain like a Sevilla or Valencia for a few seasons before joining one of the big 2.

Yeah he'll be out on loan for a few seasons and even if he doesnt make the grade and they end up selling him eventually, I'm sure they'll throw in their usual buyback clauses like with Granero and Negredo and buy him back if he ever comes good. As for his position and where he might play for Madrid, in some ways he reminds of Guti and Guti looks to be moving on in the near future. So perhaps this is just planning for the future when he's gone. He's certainly not like for like though.

According to Graham Hunter we made a last ditch attempt to sign him

There have, however, been other transfer stories between La Liga and the Premier League developing this week.

Racing Santander striker Sergio Canales, Hunter revealed, has signed for Real Madrid despite a last minute attempt from Manchester United to sign the talented Spaniard.

"There were very strong stories that there was a last-minute delegation from Manchester United flown in to try and persuade him and his father not to sign for Real.

"Instead the player agreed a mega bucks deal with Madrid, which will net the kid about 6m euros over the next five years, net racing Santander in the region of 7m euros and the bonus of having the player on loan for the next season and a half.

"He is a super kid and, believe me, he is not being puffed up, he is an extraordinary talent, a brilliant finisher and you will be talking about him for years to come."

Who knows how much truth there is

According to this report, his transfer to Madrid hasn't been confirmed

The Real Madrid general manager, Jorge Valdano, insists the club are not interested in taking Manchester Unted's England striker Wayne Rooney to the Bernabeu. The United forward is on top form at the moment and his four goals against Hull City at the weekend took the 24-year-old's total to 20 so far this season.

Rooney has taken on the goalscoring mantle of Cristiano Ronaldo who moved to Real in the summer and now reports have linked the Englishman with Mauricio Pellegrino's side as well as Barcelona. Rooney has insisted he is happy at Old Trafford and Valdano is adamant the player is not a target for the La Liga club following the exit of Ruud van Nistelrooy to Hamburg.

"He is extraordinary, very, very good," Valdano told a Spanish radio station. "Rooney is English, we all know they find it difficult to adapt to another type of competition other than the Premier League. He is a very interesting player but we have not ever been interested."

Real also appear to be on the brink of securing the Racing Santander teenager Sergio Canales. The striker has been linked with a number of clubs, including both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal, but he seems set for the Bernabeu.

While the transfer has not been confirmed, Valdano was happy to talk about the 18-year-old, saying: "He is very talented, he has technical capability, imagination, mental coolness - which is something unusual to see in such young players."

Valdano has stressed the club will accept the punishment that is to be imposed on Ronaldo following his sending-off during the 2-0 win over Malaga on Sunday. The Portuguese was given a straight red card after his swinging elbow caught Patrick Mtiliga in the face as he tried to escape the attentions of the Denmark international.

"We regret the injury to the Malaga player and we accept the decision," said Valdano. "But we defend our right in the conviction that we are right."
