I think both Rooney and Berbatov both operate best with freedom to roam.

I really don't think it matters all that much where there starting positions are.

I do feel Rooney stretching the defence in behind is one of his most important uses in the team, something that Berbatov's just not going to give us if he's stuck right up top, so I can see why he's often further forward.

The thing is, Berbatovs game should still be just as effective whether he plays deep or further forward. He can still hold the ball up, slow the tempo down, bring others into play etc when he is right up there with the opponents back four. If anything, he should be better there.

Rooney on the other hand...recently he has been seen as a playmaker with great vision and passing - which suits a deep role. But back in the earlier years when he joined us, Rooneys biggest asset was when he was able to really run at the opposition from deep, picking up the ball in our own half and charging forth. For me, these are all the qualities suited to the deep role.

Also, I think Rooney himself will start to grow impatient if he is constantly played "out of position". SAF did promise last summer that Rooney would not be shunted out wide so much (etc etc), but by the end of the season he was usually on the left.

Right now, Rooney is the one we need to build our team around, and that means playing him in his best position. Which I think we are agreed is a #10, "in the hole" striker. Rooney is the only one who has the calibre to fill Ronaldo's boots (though obviously it isnt that simple, our game and our team will change). Are we going to go building our team around Berbatov after his (fairly) disappointing first season? I hope not.

Just heard on SSN that £30 + Nani is being bounced around for the deal

Thats my worry. Because as much as I'd want Aguero at United, I dont want to see Nani leave, I really believe in his ability, and I think Ronaldo leaving can only be good for him.

If the reports are true it would suggest that the gaffer's seen something in Nani that he deems unworkable, or maybe Nani's gone and done something silly at some point early last season and the boss just wants rid. Nani should atleast get the chance god damnit! Having said that I don't think SSN reporting it validates it any more than translating the rumour from that dodgy article..

I think that its all bollocks. Stating that if we truly want Aguero then it will mean that Rooney will be placed on the left flank which kinds of limits the chances for Nani to make it.

It's interesting that people don't think Nani has "had a chance".

He's been at the club for two years and he's not been able to force his way into the first team. He's older than Ronaldo when he signed and it may be that he just isn't good enough.

If Fergie wants to get rid of him then he obviously feels the lad isn't going to be of sufficient quality to make it at United.

Any deal then means Rooney playing on the left would piss me off!!!

Thats not true. Cant it be like having 4 strikers ala Yorke, Cole, Teddy and Ole.

Rooney and Aguero upfront should be the most talented and creative strikeforce in the league. Add to that Berbatov, and to a lesser extent (in creativity) Owen, thats a sensational array.

Or maybe play a 4-3-3. I think that would be what SAF would want, especially if he is going to trade a winger for a striker in the team.

The whole trade thing is just rumours. Having four wingers, and four strikers is normal.

Kun would be able to play in a 4-3-3 with interchangable front three. He could have a similar role to the one Ronaldo had in 07/08 same goes for Rooney.

Although in a 4-4-2 I can see both him and Rooney playing better.

He reminds me so much of Romario, I'd love to see us getting him.

Is there one slither of evidence linking us to Aguero or is this entire thread based on media bollocks?

4-3-3 would still mean Rooney being shunted out on the flank. Plus I don't think Owen or Berbatov are suited to a 3 man attack.

If this does happen, which is very unlikely, it would probably mean Berbatov and Aguero rotating with Owen spending alot of time on the bench as a backup.

We don't need another striker ffs. The 3 signings we have made already are enough for this summer in my opinion. Obviously I would have preferred another striker instead of Owen and another winger instead of Valencia, but they're both signed up now, so let's look forward to the new season. Our squad has weakened but is still strong enough to compete with any other team in Europe.

If anything i would like another midfield player someone who has that OH type of mold, because if the rumours are true that OH is out till Jan we would need cover for Fletcher - i suppose a lot will depend on how well Anderson does next season, but still 3 CMF players with backup in Scholes, Giggs and a few youngesters isnt really good cover.

As for Aguero, it seems the media are working down a list of potential young superstars we are going to buy with that £80m...

Its bullshit. Stop taking it so seriously.

There's no smoke without fire and even after people said we weren't interested in Benzema, he came out and said that he turned us down (if thats true only god knows). When you're linked with a player a lot there must be an element of truth in it. It may even just be an interest but i do highly doubt that IF any swap deal were to take place; the media would find out the players involved.

No joke - According to Key 103, he will be having a medical at United, early next week.

Key 103 are always right.

If that were true we would've bought Willy Sagnol by now.

I'm sure we show some form of interest in over 100 players every year. Doesn't mean a lot.

I'd love it.

He's a younger, better version of Tevez, and I loved Tevez.

In "reliability terms", with what can we compare Key 103 Radio news"?
