I’m not sure he’s what we need but he looks a top class player. Has great feet for a big guy. It’s up to José to see if he has the mentality to play for us - if he does let’s just snap him up. Fergie always used to say for some special players you just have to sign them whether you think you need them or not.

I get we need fullbacks, right winger, possibly a centre back and a midfielder or two. But special players win you titles. City have a few special players, we have maybe 2 (one is our goalkeeper and the other is up for debate).

I’d be happy if we signed Savic, rarely see steel and finesse in a midfielder. He’s undoubtedly a great midfield prospect.
 
Lets face it this season an unfit ageing Carrick, the in my opinion awful Fellaini, an average Herrera and a competent but Im with Gary Neville overly hyped so far McTominay....there are a lot of central midfielders we can sign that would be an upgrade to fill the third midfield slot. Even though SMS nor Fred would be my choices and they are the two we are getting linked with most, certainly wouldnt be disappointed with either should they happen and bother are better I think than most of the names we were linked with last summer before signing Matic.....though hands up, I was championing Renato Sanches who has hardly set the world alight at Swansea this year.

No worries. Yeah, someone like Thiago, Verratti, etc. would be my preference.
 
Most United Fans that go week in week out will know that this type of player is the most important recruit for the club this transfer window. The team desperately needs another creative midfielder to assist Pogba with creativity and break the lines.
How many attacking Elite BTB/Playmakers are there in world football that could handle the shirt, hit ground running, play 40 to 45 games and score and assist in 15 to 20 goals next season ?
1. Sergej Milinokovic Savic

3. Isco
4. Philip Coutinho
5. Kevin De Bruyne
6. Arturo Vidal
7. Radja Naiggolan
8. Deli Ali
9. David Silva
10. Tiago
11. T kroos
12. Maybe A Ramsey

Any 1 from that list is an upgrade to play alongside Pogba who has flirted with 20 goals and assists per season in the last two years, mostly because of our negative tactics and all of the teams creative responsibility falling now on his shoulders!

Both Rooney and Zlatan for all their flaws last year plus a 28 year old Juan Mata and Mkhitaryan having an ok first season gave us so many more creative options, it's why we've been so bad to watch this year. Juan is in decline, Sanchez not settled, Lingard improved but overall we need to spend big on one marquee player from the list above, preferably Sergej Milinokovic Savic and I would add that we would also need an equally impressive recruit at Right Wing like Dybala or a Fit Gareth Bale to really have any chance of wining the Premier League.
 
Seems to constantly be loads of talk with him and definitely looks to be one of our main midfield targets along with fred. From the little I've seen and more I've heard.... I'm not sure hes quite what we need but we'll see I guess.
 
@R'hllor what do you think of this? Remember you said here once, you don't want it to happen (assume it has something to do with the way we play). But, that aside how do you see him as a player?
Potentially world-class or close to that already? I only saw him once, he looked good, but not sure how good fit is a midfield of Matic-Pogba-Savic in terms of mobility.
 
Looks like we are really serious about getting him. Hugely talented but we don't know whether he'll fit in our system and play well with Pogba. The one good thing would be that we will permanently shift to a 433. If we sign a top RW, we'll have a potent attack strong support from midfield.
 
I've never watched this chap play, who is he similar to in comparison? We need someone like Carrick.

he is poor man's Pogba. Nothing like Carrick.

Jorginho is the one very similar with Carrick but looks like he is going to City.

He might not be perfect together with Matic and Pogba - but he is so damn good, I almost don't care :)

Oh no, had nothing to do with a way we play. Now, i wouldnt say that he is close to being world class at the moment. Think with right mentality he could become a good one. Whole thing about Savic is a weird one, his story around Serbian national team isnt revealed completely. Ex national coach Muslin didnt call him, he explained how Savic wasnt a good fit in his system, it was never clear was it off field fit or on. He got sacked after qualification stage due latest results but mostly because of Savic, so guess we will never know.

Think, for Matic-Pogba-Savic to work, we either need Pogba to adapt a bit or to change Matic. Also, think he would show less resistance to JM instructions, not saying Pogba refused to do things what JM told him to, just Pogba might look like a bit more free spirit type then Savic.

Yeah, I remember looking few times at Serbian national team and thought it was weird him not being there.

That is interesting about him fitting here. It is stupid to comment based on one game, but he did seem to have more grit in the way he plays than Pogba. If this comes true I guess Pogba will have to adapt or there is a realistic chance of him being sold next summer.

Yeah she followed us - then unfollowed us. Yeah, something was going on. I reckon we thought Lukaku was nailed on to go to Chelsea. Once we got the wind of him being intereted coming here, we stalled Morata deal and then pulled the plug.

I don't think they'll ever play together. This chap will be Pogba's replacement if we do a deal with PSG/Madrid.
 
Just listening to that David Amoyal geezer’s Podcast.
He rates him very highly and thinks that United will break the bank to get him.

Only seen him a couple of times myself and in one of the games he was awful but I think that it was just an off day and that he’d make a good capture for United.

How i see it, Savic might be slightly better in defending a box and slightly more aggressive in opposition box then Pogba, where Pogba is better in area around half way line. As someone totally clueless in real world football tactics, that means Pogba in front of him when defending and behind him when attacking, so either someone better then Matic to cover them or Savic has to run his ass off during 90 min.

The same crossed my mind tbh, but I do think Pogba will get one more season. In case it turns out this midfield doesn't work properly, we can always play Herrera along Savic.
 
I can't see him and Pogba playing together, something is fishy about these rumours. Maybe we are letting Lazio know that we are interested, in the case that Pogba leaves, or we will see some serious competition for a spot next season. I doubt the latter is realistic, with the wages involved for both players.

I highly doubt we will buy him and keep Pogba. Even Jose wouldnt play a midfield of Pogba, Savic and Matic.

Made my chuckle. Hard to imagine that working, but I'm also far from any kind of expert. They do look scary prospect on the counter though with both him and Pogba running at your defence. The problem being most teams sit deep against us in the league.

Guess we'll see.
 
TBH, when I look at him I don't see Mourinho playing him with Pogba, I see Mourinho replacing Pogba with him.
However, if we plan to play him along side Pogba, I don't think Matic will be the right fit, we'll need a more agile player, something like an upgrade on Herrera, to play deep to these two. We'll need a hell of couple of FB too who can run the flanks in support of this new system, my dream will be Alex Sandro and Sidibe. That will definitely be one hill of an upgrade to our squad.
But it's I know I'm only dreaming here. That's a lot of business to be done within 1 month.
Also, Herrera will do just fine if we play him behind this duo in most of our games, not the toughest ones though.

Pogba - SMS

Fred - Matic

Fred and Matic to clean up behind the two, Fred to do the pressing and be kind of a DLP with through balls and long balls, Matic to break up play and SMS + Pogba to score and create.

This makes sense because :
1.Mourinho insisting on a Carrick replacement despite Carrick not really playing for us this year.
2.Reports that Mourinho has promised Martial a more central role next year.
3.Suits all our attackers well - Sanchez, Martial, Mata, Lingard, Rashford are all good centrally.

Maybe we can play 4-3-3 with SMS - Pogba while playing the smaller teams and 4-2-2-2 or 4-4-2 when playing the top 6

Interesting. Strong, good balance, big and 2-footed.

Remains to be seen how it will work for him in the Premier League. He won't get that much time and space to play.

Yeh. We need a Fernadinho or Casemiro type as the base of Pogba - Savic. So maybe we don't need a dedicated "lynchpin" then.
