Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Yup Kroos is totally attainable.
He could potentially be winning his 3rd CL in a row this year, but he would be happy to move to United, who let's be honest are far away from being a serious contender for the CL

The argument was that we bid around the same amount for Kroos instead of SMS - Which is, given that Real Madrid needs to fund new superstars like possibly Neymar, Hazard, etc, not an insane idea. If we don't try, we will never know. It has always been a circus there, and other big players have left Real Madrid to fund the new plans.

You'd be lucky to snatch this guy. He is some talent.

I agree there are similarities with Pogba, posicionally, unless he's to be used behind the striker (but there's already Alexis there?). Hope Pogba doesn't leave.

His passing is one of his weaknesses from what I've read. His through balls are very good though.
His pass accuracy this season is 79%which maybe due to him trying risky passes.
But his numbers have been improving over the last 2-3 seasons from 71% to 74.3% to 79% this year.

From what I've seen and read, he's best near the box in the final third.
He's defensively good but he has a tendency to mistime his takes and has 12 yellow cards this season.
He has the physicality and aerial dominance of Fellaini plus the technique close to that of Pogba minus the flair.
Bloody hell. That's the last thing we need.

He probably won't leave but when Pog was injured, United were in some dip this season... that's why Savic would also balance that out. Not to mention he can also do Fellaini's job just fine with 12 goals.

Oh come on, like we need to pay this astronomical amount for a player to play when Pogba is out with injury.

If we sign him and keep Pogba it'll be to try and use them in the same team. We'd be going into a Gerrard & Lampard experiment.

And if we want someone to fill in for Pogba when unavailable then we'll sign someone a lot cheaper

That's why I used words like 'also' and 'Not to mention' to point out many other uses for Savic.

For all the Pogba comparison, SMS is better inside the box and more imposing in their air. While you can't say he's Pogba +, you can say he has Fellaini attributes in his game more when you compare with Pogba

Difference is the Gerrard/Lampard problem was them playing next to each other and neither knowing who was going forward and who was sitting which was why someone like Carrick or Hargreaves was needed and should have been used between them (problem was Beckham wasn’t dropped regardless of form) whereas Pogba and Savic would have Matic between them.

They were tried in 3 man midfields too

Wasn’t Beckham used as the holding midfielder though ? I’m sure I remember the term “quarterback” being used as England managers simply refused to drop Beckham despite him not fitting into a three man midfield even though he wasn’t as good as Gerrard or Lampard at that point nor anywhere near Carrick or Hargreaves as a holding midfielder.

Napoli are this season's Monaco. Lots of class players, they are going to be raided. Hope we grab a couple, including this guy.

Which players from Lazio do you want see here? Assuming you meant Lazio!

I'm only interested in this player if he and Pogba can play together in a three man midfield.

Yeah I remember the "Quarterback" game. We lost to Northern Ireland back when David Healy was doing his International Football God/Bang Average Club Player shtick

Was not thinking of us actually. Immobile and Anderson could easily get offers from other clubs. Chelsea could do with Immobile if they can't attract a high profile striker and if Morata wants to move to Juve. Though I suppose Immobile will want to stay.

Hopefully Chelsea don't get Icardi, he's class.

Was thinking of posting somwthing similar. Still, with Pogba-Savic-Matic we'd still be lacking a dictator in midfield.
I think that Pogba and Savic in front of someone like Neves could be a long term solution. Pogba and Savic making forward runs into the box with Neves slotting them in, like Carrick used to. Could be a pretty nice combination to play, especially against low defences like the ones we've struggled with.

Only seen him play on TV twice so hard to judge how good he really is. How much would he be going for approximately?

Oh and more importantly, can he play on the right of a 3 man midfield? The times I saw him play, he was playing on the left side, which is where Pogba operates right now for us.

Yeah they tried several different 3rd men at different times. Carrick did get one or two chances iirc, Beckham was used at one point yeah. Cant remember everyone they tried but they definitely tried combinations including Carrick.

Don't forget SMS can also dribble past a player, play a classy through ball and score from outside the box that's why there's the Pogba comparison. Pogba is more athletic and faster at full pace and probably has a better eye for the assist imo while SMS is more of a goal scorer mainly due to his ability inside the box. Compared to Fellaini SMS is just so much more skilful, attacking minded and imaginative,Inside the box he has similar attributes to Fellaini like you say though. Can't really comment on SMS in a defensive role though just haven't seen him play there while Fellaini can be a decent sub when defending a lead.

I’m surprised we haven’t been linked with Filipe Anderson

Filipe Anderson simply hasn't played and started in enough games this season that's why no links he also only fits into the second striker/attacking midfielder position due to Lazio's formation and Luis Alberto has been fantastic in that role. Felipe Anderson is a talented player though if he can have a injury free run and get a full season of games under his belt i'm sure he will start being talked about again.

He liked a Instagram tweet about Carrick I bet he's signing

I'm pretty sure he doesn't come to us unless Pogba goes to PSG. We're most likely signing Fred and having in mind other positions we badly need to strengthen I can't see us spending ~£70m for him too.

My guess is that we're going to buy SMS, attempt to play both of them at the same time, Jose will get frustrated with it, keep SMS in and pull Pogba to the bench, and then sell Pogba next summer.

He won't have enough windows to do it as he himself will be off after next season

Savic is a good player, but he is not the midfielder we need if we're looking to replace Michael. He's much closer to Fellaini in his play style than he is to Carrick.

So the midfield will be SMS-Matic-Pogba?
Poor Matic :(

Not much difference to Silva-Fernandinho-De Bruyne.

We dominate most clubs. Against the lesser clubs; however, we sit back a bit and take up more of a defensive approach. That's when i'd expect Jose to put Herrera in.

With Matic and Herrera who can play as holding midfielders, i'm not sure Mourinho will be focusing on a Carrick replacement.

Neither of Pogba or Savic are anything like Silva really. We'd be lacking the controller in midfield.
