Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Barella is the one who I think fits us best in Serie A.

Sorry. Could not figure out another way to get a few likes so that i'm no longer limited to 5 posts per day, and unable to post in matchday thread.

Yeah I would hence flaring up your drama queen, "oh please no lets not sign a talented young player" nonsense.

You know feck all about Savic, "talented young player" spare me, have my own reasons why i dont want him here. Guess you have your own for why you want him here. So go sniff around, plenty of guffs around at the moment, even you cant miss some of them.

Just saw the highlights today, a header and a nice curled shot from outside the box. Whoever buys him, he will be expensive. The more offensive midfield role suits him much better, with picking runs into the box. Reminds me of Lampard at Chelsea with the way he pops up to scoe goals in the box at times

We should be playing him and Pogba in a midfield 3 against the majority of the league teams. Fantastic player and should be on the top of our wish list

Duncan Castles says that he was on our scouted list, we wanted to make a move in winter but were told 80 million euros and then we moved to Sanchez. He is still on our list and might become a possibility in the summer.

He'd be a good buy for Real Madrid, adding a different dimension to their midfield as they have the playmaker and the high energy DM.

I don't think he is coming here, I think we are going for Jorginho, apparently his team was in Manchester during Jan to finalize a summer transfer.

Also, he plays in same position as Pogba and has a similar playing style. What is the point?

Fantastic player, should be our nr 1 transfer target in the summer.
We need him, another midfielder and two fullbacks.

We really need to have a plan moving forward.I fully support Mourinho and his buys have been really good but did we really need Lindelof last year especially with the maximum four signings a year rule we have going on and when we badly needed FBs.

Similarly why sign Sanchez if he was just going to displace Martial who was playing so well on the left, I mean if Sanchez was playing as a false 9 or RW I see the sense in the move, not when we have Martial and Rashford waiting to play as the LW and we have no RWs.

Sergej will be a similar signing, great potential, has a brilliant future ahead of him, could become one of the best in the world, but he is not what we need.
We need mobility, not just in distance covered but agility, either in form of a #8 who can attack and defend or a #6 who can move around.
Signing Jorginho and Sergej will not solve that issue Jorginho is a really good player, as close to a Carrick clone as you can get but he lacks the mobility.Same with Sergej, not to mention he and Pogba are so similar.

I know this has been said a million times in this forum but we need a Vidal / Nainggolan - the high energy high intensity midfielder, not another Pogba.I would rather we buy Vidal on a 2+1 year contract and also buy that Barella kid.He looks like a complete midfielder with mobility, agility and good technique at 21.He can be Vidal's understudy for two years and then he can take over.Or look for Kovacic who I think will compliment Pogba well.

For me Pogba - Sergej - Jorginho midfield would struggle against a high pressing team. Think Naby Keita would have been perfect if the things I read about him are accurate.Very mobile and agile, creative and a good defensively. But he's gone so better look for someone of that ilk, Kovacic, Verratti, Vidal, Barella or someone similar

If Silva and KDB can play together with one of the most indisciplined player as DM, everything else is possible.

This Pogba can't play with x player in midfield is a bullshit excuse I think.

City also play a different way. They have a press and a higher line. Also, Fernandinho isn't that indisciplined in his current position.

Sounds like a round peg for a square hole not that I've ever seen him play mind you

He used to be though. Its all about getting the best from the existing lot by making your players better.

Was just watching the highlights from yesterday's match. The Lampard comparisons are spot on IMHO.He's a Pogba without the swagger and shine, keeps things simple, pops up in the box at the right moment and also seem to be a bit better defensively than Pogba. The way Lazio use him should be how we use Pogba, not as a deep lying playmaker.

Going purely by the past events before we sign a player, we could be signing Sergej.
Actively scouted, even by Mourinho who was at a Serbia game - tick
Active rumors surrounding the transfer for a long time - tick
Player openly talking about United and Mourinho - tick.

He even fits the profile of the player we are looking to sign. The rumors been mostly about Seri / Sergej for #8 and Weigl / Jorginho for the #6.
From what I've seen both Seri and Sergej are bit attack minded midfielders. So maybe we are indeed looking for a CAM type midfielder.
Also Mou said he sees Pogba as a box to box midfielder and in a midfield 3 that leaves space for a CAM.
Not to mention he's huge and good in the air, so if Mou is looking to replace Fellaini, Sergej is the guy.

Think 80 mill euros is a high but understandable price given how the market is and given the guy's potential. How would he fit in to our team is a difficult question to answer but Pogba - Sergej - Matic / Jorginho midfield is close to Pogba - Vidal - Pirlo midfield. But when both Pogba and Sergej run into the opposition box, I can see our midfield getting over run with ease.

Or perhaps we are going for a 4 man midfield or a 4-2-2-2 with Matic - Jorginho Pogba - Sergej forming the midfield. The latter can work I think with Matic and Jorginho sitting, Matic being a bit of a destroyer and Jorginho the DLP ; Pogba and Sergej playing as the CAMs both having creativity and goal scoring abilities.

But when a signing brings with it more headaches and questions than solutions, you know it ain't the right one.But would be interesting to see what Mou has planned and I trust him completely.

Is he what we need - Probably Not.
Is he what we are getting - Probably Yes.

In that case, do you prefer Sergej instead of Fekir (or even Eriksen)? Which CAM do you rate higher?
BTW, if we play 4-2-2-2, we would need better fullbacks.

Surely we are going to get fullbacks in this summer
Beside, this makes me think of Rooney and Tevez. Back at the time, everybody was questioning about why we get Tevez, who is similar and plays like Rooney. But when they played together, the chemistry is marvelous. I hope SMS and Pogba combination is the same! :)

I haven't seen enough of either Seri or Sergej to judge but from what I've seen, especially with SMS, they are not similar to Eriksen or Fekir.
The latter two are #10s with high work rate meanwhile SMS and Seri are CMs who are attack minded aka CAMs.
SMS can tackle, defend and plays a bit deep as compared to #10s who stay in the opposition box or nearby.

And of course we need better FBs, but if we are going to play with Matic and a DLP at the base of the midfield, then our FBs will not have to track back much as there would be two men protecting the CBs.

Similarly Pogba won't have to drop deep as the DLP would do the distribution after collecting the ball from the CBs.With proper FBs, we can stretch the play which would allow SMS and Pogba to make those late runs into the box.

4-2-2-2 makes sense as we do not have proper wingers and there are no quality wingers available. Its a decision Mou will have to make, the formation and the tactics he wants to use next year will decide if we go for Wingers or CMs.The issue will be buying good wingers to play in the right, someone who can do what Willian did yesterday, maybe someone like Leon Bailey. I cannot think of anyone else who plays like a proper winger on the Right.Pulisic, Malcom all like to drift inside.Ousmane Dembele would have been nice, but Barca bought him

Looks a talent but certainly no better than Pogba when at Juve. He also appears to excel in the role that Pogba operates best in. Overall he looks a less agile slower and less skillful version of Pogba. If he came here it would be in the same role McTominay occupied yesterday alongside Matic. No idea if he would be good at it and he certainly wouldnt increase the speed of the team. A risky purchase for the price being quoted.

Not completely. Pogba is at his best drifting to the left. SMS is very much at his best in the middle.

Juve’s best set up in the CL 2015 final run was:

Marchisio - Pirlo - Pogba
Vidal
Tevez - Morata

Defensively, this was a 4-4-2 with Marchisio and Pogba on the sides.

SMS and his physical presence would be best used in Vidal’s central role and not in Pogba’s position.

Igli Tare on Milinkovic-Savic bid: “I wouldn’t know how much he’s worth, but €70million would be too little. From now until the end of the season, there will be no more transfer market distractions.” [Mediaset]

City in pole position according to Premium Sport, £90m I think it said.

Lazio has received an offer of €200m for Milinkovic Savic. (SkyItalia)
