Not sure about this one, hes barely played any football at the top level. Is he a Herrera replacement?
It was not as rosy as you are making it out to be during that summer window. Scholes looked to be in the decline and had an injury with his eye the season before.
Fletcher was potential and even then we never thought he would come good but did couple of years after Carrick already being in the team.
Ronaldo was very inconsistent and Rooney was good then. Giggs was not ripping full backs to shred, he started to lose pace.
When Carrick was signed, he allowed scholes to shine and furthermore he allowed us to play quick counterattacking football. Along with shoring up the defensive side as well.
I am not saying Longstaff will make the same impact, it’s a massive risk but you sometimes with football you never know.
Ahh I knew that.
Would he have played for any of those youth teams?
I agree. Look at what Leicester did with Madison. He is the sort of player if we dont get now we ill be after in a year or 2 for 3 times the costThis is the type of player we need to bring this year.
We can colour in the book next season after we draw a plan.
So 300m?I agree. Look at what Leicester did with Madison. He is the sort of player if we dont get now we ill be after in a year or 2 for 3 times the cost
Have to say, you guys are reaching with the Mane, Wijnaldum, or Fergie's successful past signings comparisons. This is more similar to Nick Powell.
Why does it make more sense to spend money on he, but not give Garner a try? He barely has anymore PL experience than Garner. So knowing that we're going for a punt, and not a proven starter, why not give Garner that chance?
I’d personally prefer if we don’t go after him.
United need a handful of solid reinforcements this summer to get the squad talent above sea level. 1 project signing has already been made on James and that in all likelihood means we’ll make 3 or 4 more signings tops. If we get another sort of ‘project’ in Longstaff, I think it leaves our squad depleted and desperate for even 4th place since it’d leave just 2-3 signings to actually reinforce the squad with proven/experienced players. That’s not enough with the state our club is in atm.
...so yea, I’m against it strictly because of that. Not because I don’t like the player (I wouldn’t mind him) but because I don’t want him taking away a potential signing that’d immediately bolster our lineup which is what we need. Like I said, we already got James. And Ole has already said it won’t be some fifa manager overhaul with 7 new players. I think 5 was the max and doable if 1 was a younger, cheap player which we already got. So let’s make the most out of our remaining signing slots
The Carrick similarities are uncanny like. If he is what he looks like we've found gold here and we need to sign him. Just pay whatever it takes
It on Tyne, like. Not a geordie
We are not going to sort anything in one transfer window. We need to focus on building a team.
Anyone thinking we are going to massively improve is in for a shock - this will take time and investing in some young players who can grow into it is the right thing to do.
Next up, ladies and gentlemen...His name sounds quite wizard-like; Sean The Longstaff.
Let's hope his performances are just as magical if this goes through.

I’m not saying we’ll turn it around in to a top2-3 team in the league right away, no.
However, with the amount of financial backing we’ll have this transfer window (which is supposed to be more than usual AKA a lot), we should expect some impact players to make us significantly better than we were this past season. Especially with dead weight players leaving and being able to address positions of need which have been lacking for 5+ years now.
If he's in our youth system you want him in our first team. If he's already shown good stuff in the PL but is not from our youth system he's another Nick Powell. Is that about the height of it?
I get that you're really passionate about our youths and it's great to see people taking an interest but there's absolutely no need to feel threatened by signings like this. We need to have 5 or 6 midfielders in the squad at any time. Right now we only have 2 imo that realistically will be of a decent standard for the next few years. (Pogba & SM) There is absolutely no reason we can buy a couple this Summer and still have plenty of room to develop Garner.
Say we sign 2 of Longstaff, Rabiot, Tielemans this summer. That would still only leave us with 4 long term CMs for 3 positions. There's plenty of space for Garner and Gomes to join that group when/if they are ready. As it stands its not even an issue for Garner because he is 17. He's doing really well at his current level but he's not yet strong enough or not good enough to be a proper CM for a club like United. When he's 21, like Longstaff is now he most likely will be. Maybe even when he's 19 or 20. There's will be plenty of room for him if he's good enough.

Wijnaldum looks good because of Klopp's system. If we were to sign him he would look just like Fred does for us. I don't think OGS has any system in mind and thats the main problem. The transfer approach seems to be trying to sign British players and not those who fit any sort of plan.
McTominay is more of a energy player. High pressing and hard working player. Like a Darren Fletcher in his early United career. So Scott will more likely be replacing Herrera, as he did in the latter stage of last season.Everything Scott should be but isn't.....
Chelsea, the league Champions had just signed Ballack and Shevchenko. Carrick was our only major signing and I thought for sure we would finish 2nd to chelsea
I wouldn't say Rice would be a direct replacemeent for Matic tbh. Matic is more of a ball player whilst Rice is a destroyer type with better mobility. I think Longstaff is closer to Matic in profile personally.McTominay is more of a energy player. High pressing and hard working player. Like a Darren Fletcher in his early United career. This kid, Longstaff, seems to be a “playing midfielder”. Directing play and finding the attacking players with those direct and line breaking balls. In a way that Carrick used to do. My guess is that he’s thought as a replacement for Matic, whom is more of a “breaking-up-opponents-attacking-play” or “protecting-back-four” player. When Chelsea signed Kante they’d found a player that is better than Matic for that type of role. Here it seems like Ole is going for a different kind of player. If he was looking for a direct replacements for Matic, I think a player like Declan Rice would be more likely.
I’m all for this signing, cause it then looks like we’re going towards something different than what we’ve seen during the last couple of seasons.
Why would we not be?We are not interested in this guy Longstaff. Some fool wrote this, and the rest of the media went wild.
Half of Fergie's players were mid table signings who were part of league winning sides.
