Agreed. Unless we plan on integrating Hannibal as well into the 1st team, which is risky imo, then we will need another CM to replace McTominay, irrespective of Mainoo's availability.

Yeah Hannibal could do a job I guess but It would be a risk, as it means an 18 year old is guaranteed to get plenty of game time this season in centre midfield.

Anything beyond 2 players per position is overkill, it's how we ended up with dressing room mutiny under Ole because so many players couldn't get game time.

Either Mainoo is a serious first team option or he isn't. If he's not, I agree we need another midfielder, but that must be done on the understanding Mainoo is barely getting a game all season. Mainoo got 2 appearances last year I believe and he'll do well to get more than 5 this year if we go into the season with 6 senior midfielders in front of him.

meh take out bruno as he plays as more an advanced attacker generally and then consider most midfields i think eth has used involved just two deeper players and now you are saying 4 midfielders for 2 spots. Doable i think. This isnt a video game where you can have all world class players ready to play while they sit on the bench for ages waiting. By the time you get down to your 5th option for a midfield spot i think most teams will be using a youth player/unknown player. Or at that point eth could very well easily use bruno deeper and have different options in attack. Something like sancho central behind hojlund with rashford and antony wide can work in a pinch or against teams we are going to dominate in lower cup games etc. Main thing is to bring in players that fit the scheme and if amrabat does that it makes all the sense to sell mctominay to fund that.

People keep forgetting this. He’s nowhere near good enough for us and if Ten Hag is serious about raising the standards players like Scott need to go.

My thinking is more due to the fact that we've got Casemiro and Amrabat as the 2 for the base and possibly Mainoo/Amrabat as options as more of a defensive 8 in the big games. If you are looking at our midfield options we have Eriksen/Bruno/Mount as our more attacking options and Casemiro/Mainoo/Amrabat as our more defensive options. I don't think Eriksen gets much game time this season as he looks like he's pretty much done at the top level. I'd much prefer we sign a replacement for Mctominay this season and slowly breed Mainoo in slowly to eventually replace Eriksen next season in terms of midfield numbers.

An example would be Casemiro getting injured or suspended and we have a big game coming up we'd be starting with Amarabt and Mainoo and one out of Bruno/Mount, I don't think that would be a good idea tbh.

I agree which is why another midfielder would be needed. When one of the 4 midfielders is an 18 year old who has 1 prem appearance it's a bit different to a 'video game where you can have all world class players'.
My point is I'm sure ETH would want to replace Mctominay whether it's a world class replacement are not we'll defo need another midfielder in to replace Mctominay.
