Scott McTominay | Transfer discussion not performance discussion

I wouldn’t take too long if I were us. If West Ham have a bad start, Moyes could be gone and with him, any chance of selling our Brexit deadwood.

£60 million for McTominay and Maguire would represent a good deal for all parties IMO.

Asking for 40m for him in this market isn’t unreasonable at all. his qualities are under appreciated on here and would do well for them.

Probably happen for around 35m.

So he and Fred are the two who kept out of the squad yesterday and today - to prevent injuries - so can we assume that those 2 deals are the closest? While on the other hand Maguire and Donny are fully involved

I would rather that was the other way around.

No but seriously, are they kept out due to transfer biz (like Hojlund was kept out in the Atalanta game right before he was sold) or do I read to much into it?

Let me put it this way, despite all that is said about McFred, both are definitely better than Dan Gore and Van de beek

McTominay's injured I think, game against Dortmund he went down at the end. No clue about Fred.

Yeah. Or £50m. Somewhere thereabouts I suppose. I would take £40m in a heartbeat. We are better off without those guys (we thank them for their service).

We should be looking for a decent price of 30m plus but he isn’t even a good squad player and have to weigh up benefit of getting few extra million against bringing someone better into the squad as soon as possible.

There doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of interest in him other than West Ham so I’d hope we can resolve something with them pretty quickly.

Im guessing the fractured relationship between Moyes and the DoF equivalent at West Ham is down to not pushing enough for Maguire and/or McT.

Gore's an u-21 player and probably has a higher ceiling than either in terms of progressive passing and dictating midfield rhythm, even just as a squad player. For the moment he's not replacing either because we'd be bringing in (a) one more experienced player better suited to how ETH plays and (b) probably Mainoo to understudy and fill in for cup games/ late sub appearances, who has a currently higher ceiling than Gore, let alone the aforementioned duo, and who it's in our interests to develop, including giving some game time to. They're saleable assets, as far as it goes and worth more as that than as squad players.

Donny, however, should definitely be sold; again, that doesn't detract from the fact that McFred also need to go...

Yeah we have to ship those three out asap imo. Their efforts are appreciated but they aren’t up to it.

Bad news for us

I think McTom was never going to be pushed into a DM role at West Ham anyways, that was just some media nonsense from some frankly thicko journalists adding 2+2 and making 27.

With that being said JWP is a Moyes 1st choice as I've said before, mainly as he had goals/assists and has a wicked set piece delivery which is a large added benefit when your team is generally risk averse in open play.

I can't see the budget stretching to JWP and McT so it will be one or the other. JWP likely being the cheaper of the pair feels more likely to come off, especially as the player wants to come as well.

If Southampton sell JWP then McTomminay would be a good replacement for them, probably captain material also.

A Championship side will not cough up £40m that we seem to be demanding. Also it's not really part of Southampton's policy to sign 27-year old mediocre midfielders with little to no resale value, their scouting department will just get them 4-5 European players for the same money and at least 1 of them will pan out much better.

I know people dont rate him but he’s easily a premier league level player.

I've said it multiple times, I'd be more than happy keeping as a squad player. Offload Fred and VdB, get Amarabat and then we have a midfield depth of Casemiro, Bruno, Mount, Erikson, McT, Amarabat and Mainoo. More than happy with that.
