Any proper club with ambition and a bit of nouse, would now go back to Fulham with a Palhinha / McTominay + cash swap deal.

Will enjoy the first game Mainoo is brought on/ starts while McT warms the bench.
Bruno and Case will play nearly every minute. As we saw last year, Erik doesn't rotate much and doesn't sub his best players during the game. Then you have Mount, Amrabat and Eriksen who are way above McT in packing order. And then you have Mainoo who was praised a lot by Erik this summer.
McT will struggle to even be on the bench this season.

Not going to resort to name calling but he’s bang average and we need better than average at this club.

People are directing their anger at McTominay but really it should be at the club/Ten Hag. If the appetite was there to sell him, we should've tried a lot harder to do a deal with West Ham when they bid £30m. It has been a lousy end to the window and a lot of it is self inflicted.

It's a bit funny TBH

Palhinha is having his photo taken, in a Bayern kit, after passing his medical.

Phone rings.

"Erm...best take that kit off. McTominay doesn't want to go to Fulham."

FOOOOOOOOOOOK
It was more Hojberg than McTominay still

Nope, wrong again. The anger should be directed at the owners who have bought this club to its knees and left us in a situation where we must sell to buy. We need a renewed effort to remove the Glazer parasites from our club. Every fan should get involved and show a real United front against them.
As for Scott he isn’t great, but if the manager sees a use for him them I’m happy to have him around, especially as £30m wouldn’t replace him with the required quality.

McTominay and Maguire know that the people running United have no spine, the club is rudderless. Easy to tell them to feck off and sit on their massive wages for a while longer.

Exactly. People are looking at ETH getting 6-7 signings (2 loans, one Evans) and start saying manager is being backed by owners heavily. As if that is good enough.

This particular issue has got very little to do with the owners. Certainly if they were funding losses, we'd have even more transfer fees to burn. But does anyone really think it would make a difference if EtH had spent 500m net instead of 400m net? The problem is not money, its the structure, the decision makers, the overpaid players etc etc

All goes back to the owners. The lack of structure, incompetent people calling the shots, PR team and player power deciding the contracts, everything goes back to the Glazers and their sheer incompetence to run this like a proper football club and only interested in the money making part of it.

Yeah the only way they ever leave this club is if Jassim takes over, could see Ratcliffe keeping them as seems the sentimental type

Agreed. I doubt we could sell McTominay for 30m or 35m and replace him with a better player. His pace and height will be useful when Varane is injured.

If they rather sit on the bench and earn money, it's a surprise McTom or Maguire didn't join a club in Saudi.

Guys! You are being harsh on Scott. His refusal to leave the club has resulted in Fulham (seeking him as a cover for Palinha) deny Bayern Palinha's transfer. Bayern in return has put a hold on Ryan Gravenberch. That's the news right now. Scott Mctominay, just by refusing to leave the club has screwed Pool big time.

Gravenberch is still heading to pool.

All of which comes squarely back to the owners and their poor appointments.

There is no getting away from the fact that every substandard situation this club has found itself in is rooted with the owners, and we won’t see improvement until they are gone.

McT is on £60K a week, the only first team squad members on less (that I can see) are Garnacho/Heaton/Diallo/Pellestri and Mengi. A move would benenfit him financially as well as by game time. Doubt the situation is anywhere near as simple as wanting to protect his Utd wage.

People who genuinely believed McTominay is worth £45m, even in these crazy times, must surely have had their eyes opened?

The Glazers are ultimately culpable but that that doesn't absolve Ten Hag and other senior figures of any blame. We wouldn't be running around scavenging for 4 or 5 new players on deadline day if we had better owners in place, that is a given. We also wouldn't have a model that gives the manager absolute power to sign players if we were run competently.

The ownership situation isn't something the staff can control, so they should focus on the things they can. If you're in a situation where you need to sell to buy and you know it, you should maybe think a bit harder about accepting bids for a cumbersome and limited player like McTominay. Replacing him with the required quality only becomes relevant if McTominay was of the required quality in the first place, which he is not.

It's not the only mistake we've made this summer either. We spent the midfield budget on Mount when we were crying out for a player who could bring some control and balance to the midfield. We didn't push hard enough to force Harry Maguire out the club (although I'd maybe give a little bit of leeway on this one). The clowns in charge even tried to bring back Mason Greenwood before they realised the backlash would be too much for them to handle. Basic footballing decisions which only require a little bit of common sense, and we're still getting them fundamentally wrong. As much as I hate the Glazers, that isn't just the fault of the owners.

Oh yeah there is no doubt IF we had a competent recruitment structure then there wouldn't be such reliance on Erik's recommendations. Like you say it's mad we have spent £60m on someone who doesn't address our main issues in midfield

I have said it before and I will say it again he is connected and protected from upon high at United. It doesn't take rocket science.

Wouldn't surprised me tbh.

He is United through and through and academy lad.

So, like top red? He could be born at centre of field and yet it wouldn't mean anything since he's just not good enough.

ridiculous comment. Been here since he was 14, always puts in a full shift, scored a lot of important goals for us.

Good player, have a bit of respect

If by full shift you mean actively hiding from the ball, jogging around while being out of postion and not contributing nothing apart from some goals here and there? Shit player who makes United play worse when playing, sorry if you're offended that I've called turd a turd.

Can’t really blame him for turning down Fulham, he’s nearly 27 so he needs to make the right move. I’ve no doubt he would have gone to West Ham, it was such a good move for all parties and just stupid something wasn’t sorted out.

McTominay is way better than Caicedo on progressive carries though, according to these stats. Meaning he is better at carrying the ball? Quite odd
Brighton's play didn't use midfield carrying much though, they focus way more on passing.
