Scott McTominay (Out) - Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Southampton, Leicester interested

We need to sell immediately if there is demand. Take 45-50m and run

Don’t think we should rush to sell him after only adding one signing. If Casemiro gets injured we’re back where we started.

Who would be stupid enough to pay that? When you combine all the facts that we are shit at selling and McT probably being on considerably higher wages than he should be, I think £25m is the max we can get.

For a decent fee, sure, but our squad isn’t so rounded out yet that we can completely do without him, so let’s not flog him for pennies. Not sure of his contract situation but I doubt he’d be worth much less next summer. The sensible option would be to keep him for the early stages of the cup competitions and as a sub to give Casemiro and Fred some time off, then sell next year when we can replace him with a longer term prospect.

No point selling him this season. Let's see how things work out with Casemiero. He might be needed to step in if there are injuries

This is true, but at least Iqbal has some of the qualities you would like for a midfielder in a possession/front foot team. Whether he makes it at this level is still a huge unknown, of course.
I absolutely hope he does, of course! But the step up from academy to first team is so big that I really prefer to temper my expectations

I think we would sign another CM if we sell him.

I’d go back in for Rabiot, we’d end up with more cash from selling McT, throw an extra few £££ on the weekly wage and he’d be a decent option.

Think Mctomminay is usable as a squad option especially in this era of 5 substitutes. So long as he's not a pivotal first team member he surely can have a role to contribute to this season.

I agree. I’d keep him too. The issue for me was always he’s relied upon as a staple in midfield when he reality he’s a squad player.

Seems like a quick fire sale is on at the club, with the news of Maguire and now this, i feel ETH has gone upstairs and made it known he didn't sign up for this shitshow and is okay with selling anyone who hasn't done fair fecks for the club.

These rumours bring tears of joy in my eyes but I doubt they are true. Getting rid of McT and Maguire in one window would be almost too good to be true

I disagree, IMO Fred is just as limited with worse physical attributes which makes him even less useful.
It is blindingly obvious fred should go before him. People say he is better more advanced but we are well stocked in that regards. McT is a much better back up and it would be important that he is kept along with Garner at this early stage. No other players at the club are nearly able to play DM

He's obviously not good enough but now really isn't the time to sell. We don't have enough midfielders. Can't we wait another year?

Maybe it's coming from him, he thought he'd be first choice, and no longer will be with Casemiro. Which is fair enough, let him go find his real level.

Get rid. Any appearances beyond Fred, Casemiro and Eriksen should be given to Hannibal or Iqbal. He brings nothing to the team the youngsters can't bring.

People actually think McT is better than Fred? fecking hell I've you been living under a rock? Fred was one of our best performers last season.

One is a Brazilian international in CM, the other gets his odd game in a three man defense for Scotland

Fred is a significantly better midfielder than McTominay irrespective.

I disagree personally. Fred is a more limited player - he is sloppy, technically average, physically weak and basically just a good workhorse. He also is older with less room for improvement, higher wages, no homegrown status, no positional versatility.

McTominay is a good physical asset, good at resisting the press and beating players on the turn in midfield, at carrying the ball forwards and passing between the lines to attackers. He is also sometimes sloppy, and his defensive positioning/awareness is among the worst I have ever seen.

Between the two I would take McTominay, and that’s not counting the non-pitch stuff like wages, age and homegrown status.

Don't get me wrong I think they are both awful and would bin the two in a second. But Fred is older and probably on higher wage too and as I said, I think he is more useless of the two. You also make a valid point about how he potentially should play further up the pitch, instead of who? Eriksen or Bruno? I'd sell him, but no potential takers will be a problem.

Well put.

I don’t think it matters who leaves this window out of him and Fred. I would be surprised if both weren’t out within the next two seasons under ETH.

The same rock maybe you lived under for the first half last season? People are quick to forget just how dreadful fred was in the first half, can honestly say he's had worse performances in a united shirt regularly than any other player I can ever remember. Yes he papered over his many cracks with a few better performances in the 2nd half. But before that there were threads about him being our worst ever player. Glad he improved but he's so out of a top 6/7th clubs depth.

And when did McT have his last good game for us? Fred had his fair share of poor performances but always paired with good ones. With McT you get 4-5 decent games during a season. Apart from his height I can't think of a single thing that he's better than Fred in.

‘Where we started’ is playing McTominay in midfield weekly. That is not something to fall back on. If Casemiro is injured there is no point deferring to a failed solution. Sell the player. If it’s simply human beings you want, you may as well list Tom Heaton as someone we can put in midfield. If it’s options good enough to contribute in midfield - then neither Heaton or McTominay apply.

If we could get £30m for McTominay it would be one of the biggest robberies in football. Imagine a team spending that sort of money on Scott! He could be playing for Dundee United and nobody would think anything of it.

Sell Mctom and keep Garner, much better idea

Agreed. Timing wise, we could likely get more for McTominay now than in the future, and the fees touted for Garner currently don't seem to match his potential. Use the McTominay money to bring in someone else, too.

I know everyone has a downer on McT and I agree he’s not good enough, but people saying the most we can fetch is £25m when we got £30m for Daniel fecking James is ridiculous. We got £25m for Schneiderlin about 5 years ago Ffs. McT is easily a £30-£35m player

Yes, please sell if given the chance.

Seems a nice guy and all but he is well proven to not be good enough. I'd much rather see his minutes go to any of Garner, Savage, Iqbal etc.

Sorry, did someone say Fred is more limited than McTom?
McTom is only anywhere near the squad as he's home grown and a physical monster.
