Scott McTominay | Napoli

I actually think sporting is the exact kind of profile of club her should be looking at - he should get his application in.

Would be gutted if he went to a club with too great demands on staying up / getting promoted. If luck goes against you that can be the death of your ambitions.

Don't think there's anything wrong with holding out for a club where you've got a realistic chance of challenging for things. If Roma weren't so trigger happy then trying to get them back into the CL places next season would be the right kind of challenge.

Really hope it works out for him and we can have him back after Amorim.
What’s this got to do with Scott.

He thinks McTominay should apply for the Sporting job. I think they are going with their U21 coach from what I've heard and it would be a hell of a commute but he's a hard worker.

He’s killing the league with his supporting runs behind the CF and that team-first attitude required by Conte.

Ten Hag? Van Nistelrroy? It seems a bit of a stretch to me: these are not clubs waiting for such applications with starry eyes, really.

Napoli literally couldn't get the ball over the halfway line yesterday without Kvara carrying it from their third to Inter's. All they did was defend with 11 men behind the ball throughout the 90 minutes, hoping to capitalize on mistakes. This still works apparently in the bubble that is the modern Serie A, but it amazes me that, when Conte does it, it's tactical acumen and understanding of his players' abilities. When Allegri does it, it's simply not good enough. Happy for McT leaving his mark in a big game, but let's not kid ourselves here.

So he's scored 3 goals.. happy for him but the way some people are going on you'd swear he's scored 15 and is playing like Zidane

One of them was against Serie B Palermo. People are overreacting as per usual when an ex player scores a goal.

The welbeck thread probably still gets bumped now.

And he’s playing exactly how he played here — exact same strengths and weaknesses. Really not much to write about here

He is not that good…

He can’t make Napoli‘s list of chances creators:

I sincerely doubt Declan Rice would fare better at Napoli than McTominay does currently
Decalan Rice is a CDM or defensive b2b, McTominay is a Second striker cant compare the two. Now he has a manager playing style of football which suits him and utilize him well. WOuld never happen in a top club. where you would prefer more creative player. Great for Scott he can reestablish himself. But win win he was moved on.

Yeah, like I said, he's started this season well. However, in general he scores 6 league goals a season which is nowhere near good enough
I mean yeah he'd have scored less in earlier seasons because he was playing as a holding mid.

He got 7 (10 overall) in the league last season playing in a more advanced roll and seems to be on track to beat that this season.

I wouldnt double down on your claim he's only good for 6, when he clearly isn't?

Good piece of business to get rid of him for the money Napoli offered, as always some of the fans in our fanbase have alarmingly low standards. McTominay was never good enough for us, the fact he had over 200 appearances for us sums up how far we have fallen after SAF retired.

If only we could move on some of the other chancers in our squad.

Welbeck mate.

Right now, who would you pick up front in a starting 11, Welbeck or Hojlund?
Højlund. To put things into perspective, Højlund last season as a 20/21 year old, scored more goals in a single league campaign than Welbeck ever has. This as well in his debut season, in a new country, having taken a few months to really get going. Also, playing for a team who really struggled.

Brighton have an established, coherent style that all of their players fit into like a glove. Clearly something that we haven't had. Hopefully that changes under Amorim, particularly where Højlund is concerned as stylistically he is pretty similar to Gyokeres.

Yup. Not sure why we pine after ex players so much on here. Remember when everyone wanted Cleverly gone and then when he did, there was a mini outrage?

Welbeck wasn't good enough then and he isn't now.

Yeah. Its way too early to be writing players off given the car crash they have been playing under.

People criticize McT by saying you shouldn't judge everything by goals and then throw shade at Welbeck by judging everything by goals.

It may be the nostalgia talking, but I cant help but feel he would’ve been a lethal asset as one of the 10s under Amorim

Can't believe people are reminiscing about this guy. He had more stinkers than middle of the road performances for this club. About time we started trimming the squad of players like this, and hopefully it will continue next summer.

it would be funny if he win Serie A with Napoli. Ex united players went to seria A usually wins the league

Scott McTominay admits it was difficult to leave Manchester United this summer but says he had to "look out for number one".
The 27-year-old joined Napoli in August and has been a standout performer as his new club sit second in Serie A.
"It was a big decision, but in some ways it was quite straightforward," the Scotland midfielder told BBC Scotland.
"I saw the passionate fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players and I saw an opportunity.
"I took it. I didn't look back. It didn't take me long to make the decision because I knew that was what I wanted and I'll never have any regrets in my life. As soon as I put my mind to something I want to do it, that's it. There's no holding me back."
McTominay has four goals and two assists in 15 appearances for Antonio Conte's side and has become a firm favourite with supporters.
His arrival at Napoli coincided with that of international midfield colleague Billy Gilmour.
"I love this place," McTominay added. "I love the fans, I love my team-mates. It has been a pleasure to be with Billy every day rather than just seeing him at Scotland and we have helped each other a lot."
Manchester United's decision to allow McTominay to leave baffled some pundits and former Old Trafford players.
Then manager Erik Ten Hag had spoken of his desire to keep the midfielder, but Financial Fair Play rules played a part, with the sale of homegrown players considered pure profit.
"It was a mutual decision," McTominay, who joined United in 2002, said. "It was a case of - there's an opportunity there, do you want to go?
"Obviously I know from their side FFP is difficult. It's not easy for clubs to make a decision in regards to homegrown players, but that was never in my thought process.
"My thought process was coming here, seeing the fans, the coach and hopefully doing really good things."
Having been with United since the age of five, it was an emotional farewell.
"On my last day, I had to go and see everyone and it was not easy to say goodbye," he said. "But that's football. That's the life.
"I spoke to him [Ten Hag]. He expressed his thoughts on the situation. I said, 'listen it's my career, I am here to push myself on'.
"In this situation, I have to look out for number one and go with my gut feeling of what I want to do in my career and not be held back by any other external factors.
"It was amicable. I love that football club to bits, they have been my life for 22 years, but I have moved on now. I am thoroughly enjoying myself here."

So glad he is doing well, with the added bonus that it pisses off the negative moany cnuts in our fanbase....

He was never good enough for United. You can see that with how special someone like Amad is. Those types of players should never be behind the likes of McT at United. We were too stale for too long.

Saying that, it’s great he found a club and a system he can do well in. It would be great for him if he could win a Serie A.
