Scott McTominay | Napoli

Hit the post and was crucially dispossessed in the lead up to Atalanta's third.

He was a frustrating player at times but the obsession over him is really over the top. Dude is gone. Let it go. He gave miles more effort than many still here and didnt cost us some crazy amount of funds. Has yet to claim he was bullied too.

So happy for him. He keeps showing why some of us wanted to keep him. Same level as some of 100m Premier League players that changed clubs last couple of seasons. We made big mistake.

Right place at the right time but rest of his performance has been poor and you could easily forget he was on the pitch.

He’s playing every week but he’s only scored two league goals in an advanced role. Right decision all
round to sell him.

Really pleased for him - very likeable player. Just goes to show how the environment plays such a monumental factor in how a player does.

So many would have had you believe he was destined for lower-league Premier League level and it’s incomprehensible that he could excel for a team that competes for Europe. He may not be the most technical player and certainly has deficiencies but if his very distinct skill set is utilised well, he can thrive in the right setting.

Also easily worth over £30m.

He really really really really really isn't.
Nobody can say that players like Caicedo or Rice are better central midfielders. Better in some aspect of the game but not looking at whole picture. What have they done comparing to McTominay?

I sincerely doubt Declan Rice would fare better at Napoli than McTominay does currently

Getting rid of him was one of the few things we've done right. Rashford next please

Don't bite...

Hes been decent with a couple of goals, but hes playing the most advanced of a midfield 3 which is essentially Bruno's role for us. Even off form at the start of the season Bruno is better

Eriksen has been a good, goalscoring backup and addition. If we include cups hes scored more than McTom whilst being better in general play

You have to give him his flowers for adjusting to a more advanced position than the one he held at United

I dont think it really is. There are just more holding players so not as big of a deal if he doesnt do a lot with the ball or isnt back to defend. He would get ahead of the ball and into the box at United

This is really some top tier WUMing. I'm itching to write an essay in response. Bravo!

Commentator said “against the run of play” Sounds like a standard McT in midfield performance. I don’t enjoy hating on him but the rewriting of history when he shows he can continue to nick a few goals, now he’s in a lower quality league, is a bit silly.

Anyhoo. Happy for him. Don’t feel this way about all our ex players but really want this move to work out for him.

He plays in midfield on defence, in possession he's a second striker

Doing well so far

Get this on a t-shirt

This is such a crap way of judging him, because he scored he played well.

On a side note, it’s quite funny to see this thread bumped the same day that Ugarte made the same amount of touches, passes and tackles that McT would rack up in an average two matches combined.

That's generous

Caicedo and Rice are better central midfielders.

Meh still not seeing anything exceptional

It’s cool to see Napoli fans love him. Glad he’s doing well.

Always thought he was better than a lot of supporters said, but equally that he should have been sold. He’s a United academy product at the end of the day, keen for him to smash his career. Glad we moved on, though.

Should have shifted forward/across to close down Calhanoglu there. Even if he's trying to cover Barella, he's in no man's land in the middle and instead points to someone else to do the job.

Wish him well but glad we sold.

Thats what some fans look at. And the player instantly becomes second coming of Pele after being moved on from the club.

The way news has been reported on him I thought he'd be pushing 10 goals by now

Rice shouldn’t ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Caicedo.

Caicedo is the best midfielder in the league.

I don't really care too much about the comparison, both are good players.

Both are miles better than McTominay obviously.

I actually think sporting is the exact kind of profile of club her should be looking at - he should get his application in.

Would be gutted if he went to a club with too great demands on staying up / getting promoted. If luck goes against you that can be the death of your ambitions.

Don't think there's anything wrong with holding out for a club where you've got a realistic chance of challenging for things. If Roma weren't so trigger happy then trying to get them back into the CL places next season would be the right kind of challenge.

Really hope it works out for him and we can have him back after Amorim.

Didn't watch the match, but in the highlights he shows up thrice:
1. The goal
2. A botched clearance from him because of slow reactions, leading to a shot
3. Getting turned by somebody, leading to a shot

Didn't see a single pass or touch from him other than the first two here in the ten+ minute highlights, and his role is as the #10...

McTominay is head and shoulders above Caicedo. Rice isn't even in the discussion, he's a clear liability.
