Not sure what your point is.

If it is: "McTominay should not start for us because he can't be part of a starting XI ready to compete for things", then I agree with you.

I thought that was pretty bloody obvious, though.

We still need squad players/bench options.

You don't build a team by kicking out everyone who isn't an obvious starter.
No I agree. But you try to bring in funds to improve the team. And if that means you sell obvious bench players, you should do it. The bench should consist of players who are battling it out for a spot in the starting eleven. And players who recently lost that spot. And talents who have the potential to become starters in the future.

I also wouldn't it call "kicking him out". He has been a model professional for us. He should make a name for himself in a team where he starts every week.

Some situations today where it is clear how he can't be a part of midfield which wants to play any kind of football.
He gets the ball and has open player on the wing. Instead passing he runs with the ball towards that player and then makes a short pass. He needs 4-5 touches every time he gets the ball.
Agreed and I noticed that too, think there was an open and simple pass out to Garnacho but he's wandered around taking too many touches.

I'd keep him in the squad though.

I think it is in his best interests to go this Summer, 27, stock is reasonably high and he is on a low wage at Utd. Can secure himself a decent contract, especially if he has a decent Euros, if a new manager comes in, players are added he could easily be on the outskirts at Utd, his moment gone.

Done a decent job for Utd this season, for all his limitations.

Did pretty well today and seems like a great lad, hope he goes this summer and finds a team where he can be one of the main men.

No. We should be looking to build the squad with similar profiles to starters in the reserves. Having to competely change a role for a bench player is how you end up collapsing in a season if you have poor injury luck.

McTominay's game simply isn't suited to a progressive team, he'd be far better off in a mid table side that is happy to see him arriving in the box for goals and being physical instead of needing him to pass the ball effectively

Yep, this, clearly has a great attitude but I think he's in many ways a poor man's Fellaini and has glaring gaps in his game.

I actually think, if we keep this kind of box midfield tactic on the go, his role will be easily filled and more technically so by Mount

In theory, McTominay and 20M for Onana would probably slightly improve Everton's midfield in Dyche-ball (Doucoure, Mctominay, Garner and Gueye fighting for 3 spots) and give them a bit of cash to spend elsewhere. Might fit Newcastle well too, since he and Joelinton have some similarities.

If it was a choice between him and Amrabat for the squad I'd rather have Amrabat
Lets hope our choices will be more ambitious. I'd rather see Gore than both of them. Preferably of course another player. At least one where there is potential he'll be good enough to play in a top team.

I agree on Gore and I'm sure he'll be part of the first team squad next season but I still think we need an eperienced midfielder as a back up. Gore and Mainoo are both very young, depends on who we sign as the main DM

I agree. I also can see scenarios where it wouldn't be the worst decision to keep Amrabat. But I don't think there are many. After all, we paid a premium to have the option to get rid of him and also after all, he didn't really used his chances. I agree with the majority on here, he should have gotten more opportunities but it is what it is. I don't think he is going to get better at this point. And I think we can do better by investing 20 million in somebody promising from Argentina or Uruguay or something. I think, the last games are overstated in terms of "pros" for keeping him. Today was the only really deserved win and we did it by more or less completely surrendering the ball to City. While that is a great plan for a one-off game, it sure shouldn't be the template for the future.
I am also against listing him as a DM. He is closer to Eriksen than he is to Casemiro. The fact that he is semi-mobile, semi-aggressive, semi-useful in defense is more a statement against our current midfield options than it is to Amarabats overall quality. He never has been a DM. Just look at his fbref. He simply hasn't. And he won't transition into one in the later stages of his career. I'd take him for 6-8 Million EUR. Anything more would be bonkers to me. He isn't part of the future of Manchester United and we are in no position to bring in bench options. We have to fix the 1st team first. Bench should consist of younglings with potential of getting into 1st team and players who fight for their spot in the first team.

McT had some undeniably shabby moments on the ball but he did reasonably well in restricting Rodri's impact, a lot of disciplined tracking and cutting off passing angles which gave Rodri fewer passing options than he would have normally. Not the type of tactically astute stuff I expect from Scottie but he did ok.

Needs to get himself sorted physically for the Euro's as he hasn't been right since he tweaked his knee at Chelsea, ends every game hobbling.

Not his biggest fan, but he was good today, not on the ball, keeping Rodri out of the game was his job and he did it very well.

I always liked his attitude, but so what. I'd have a good attitude at United too.

Disappointing when he got the ball today - slow of mind. Never knew what to do with the ball, and was a massive contrast to Mainoo, who looked like he had all the time in the world.

Move him on and replace with any number of players, youth or otherwise.

Lovely guy. Appreciate his dedication and ability to score random goal, but unfortunately just doesn't have enough at the level United wants to be

another performance which highlights how limited he is.

wouldnt get near citys squad or any top team in europe.. so this " decentt squad player ' tag needs to go.

thankfully there are fans like myself who have much higher standards for this club.

Needs to be sold in the summer, ETH's obsession with him is one of the reasons id be all for a managerial change, the over use of him this season has cost us many times

Great in his role yesterday and I really hope we can keep McTominay in the squad next season. He'd be a useful player to have whoever ends up in charge.

ETH is hardly obsessed with him, where are you getting that from? We're very limited in the middle of the park in terms of options, so Scott has played more than we'd have liked (and more than ETH wouod have liked). Who would you have us play instead?

In hindsight should probably have accepted the £30m bid from West ham and the £20m for Maguire. Won't get those offers again now that the Moyesiah is gone

Don’t think people appreciate what a big contribution he made yesterday. He for the whole, prevented Rodri getting on the ball and dictating the game as he normally does.

Odd man out in midfield yesterday as usual. Everytime he touched the ball I was begging for him to quickly give it to someone else. Needs to be phased out this summer. If he's kept, he should be used only in very limited roles.

It was £30m for Maguire, and we did accept it. He refused to leave, either because he wanted to fight for his place or because he wanted us to cover the loss of wage that he'd be losing at West Ham (depending on what source you read).

Scott was the one who we supposedly refused £30m and tried to push them up to £40m.

That bit where he threw the ball back on the pitch, brilliant.

He is one of those players a bit like Bissaka who does a job very well but then maybe doesn’t have the qualities to take advantage of good stuff he has just done.
So often he just lacks awareness of where the space is or takes too long to see the pass. Just makes a lot of poor decisions and yesterday was no different. Did great things and was essential to our performance but there were moments where he had the opportunity to hurt City and he either didn’t see it or didn’t pull off the pass.

He’s a fantastic squad option and I hope he is kept but at the same time I hope we bring in someone over greater quality.

Given our problems this season it's a good job both wanted to stay.

His involvement in matches is akin to the big lad at school being the last to pile on during a 'bundle'. Impactful but you're not sure it's helping terribly. He plays like he thinks his talents are more than they are, driving forward and just running into people; trying toe-poke shots from 30 yards out. Beyond being a physical presence in the midfield, I'm not convinced he should be here next season

Great job from him yesterday, massive engine and nuisance, and completely NULLED Rodri. Homegrown, loyal, versatile squaddie, low wages. Never saw the hate he gets here from some.

Did his job well but overall needs to go. City were always going to dominate possession and control the game but he allows even average teams to do that against us.

Yeah I thought he did a great job yesterday.

I'm normally a big critic and I hate when he plays as a deeper CM because he can not pass and loses runners into the box, but the role he played yesterday suited him.

This. The gameplan was keeping City's possession to the wide areas where they couldn't hurt us and McTominay was vital to that.
