Some say they're not always given, that's not a valid excuse. You should never count on refs being consistent, just do your job as cleanly as possible

They should be given more often to stop players pulling out this shit, if anything.

What goes through a player's mind in a moment like that? I know things happen quickly, but these guys have been playing hundreds upon hundreds of games. What mental dysfunction causes a player to wrap his arms around an opponent inside the box and hold on for dear life? There must be some element of genuine stupidity involved in something like that. It's not an accident, it's not a clumsy mishap or mistimed tackle, it's a player deciding to do something that he knows will cost his team the game, and it's not as though it might have accomplished anything of great value if he'd gotten away with it. Absolute idiocy. Don't fecking wrestle opponents to the ground inside the box. We cannot use a player who does something like that under no pressure whatsoever. He's a gigantic liability and we just can't risk playing him. He's gotta go.

Donkey

Yes it happens every game but they are usually a bit more subtle than that/not in front of the referee. It looks like he grabbed him for ages as well which was just daft. You give a forward player a chance to win a foul they will take it.

Agree but the next game any of us will watch there will be a situation exactly like this that wont be turned into a penalty. Its stupid from McT but he is also unlucky that this is one of the very few times a referee calls it as a foul. Usually there is atleast a warning before giving it as a penalty too

A brief reminder for the many with short memories that he won the key game vs Nicosia off the bench only 2 games ago.

Sure today was stupid, but it's no reason to write him off. Just needs to be ensured that he learns from it.

It’s just not a pen though is it? If that’s a pen there’d be 5 a game. Terrible decision

He always fouls. To be fair to him it's rarely in the box. But it's was so stupid he didn't have to do it.

I think he along with Fred will be out the door next summer. 1 good game every 5 or 10 isn't good enough for a squad player.

Nah, this is the opportunity to unleash all the hate.

What we should do, is act as if it never happened. After all, discussing it even minutes after the game is uncalled for.

He has been doing it all season. Holding players and not letting go. It was a stonewall pen.
He's been doing it all his careers, he's a shocking tackler, probably worse than late Scholes, strong as a MMA fighter but with timing of a snail and anticipation of a headless chicken.

He should be eased out of the team, asap, this travesty should end after many years of stealing minutes of other much better players...

Hopefully E10H will start to be braver with selection of the kids who play proper football and gives us control and penetration than this really nonsense selection of a player...

Completely disagree. It's a clear foul in the box, therefore it's a penalty. The refs are hit and miss with giving these because, on the whole, the refereeing in this country is wildly inconsistent. If you standardise the refereeing and we start penalising players for these types of fouls, then they'll either stop, or more penalties will be rightfully given.

It's 100% a foul. Shocked that there's a few on here who seem to think otherwise. Really fecking stupid from Scott to even attempt that.

It doesn't happen every game. Enough of that nonsense.

Behind the attacker with two hands around his waist dragging him back as the ball is just dropping to the attacker.

If it did happen every game, there would be penalties every game. McTominay is just an idiot.

Scott does that very often. Was bound to get punished at some point. Glad it didnt cost us 3 points.

Good enough for what? he’s an academy player who’s been giving it his all this season.

What does that have to do with him being good enough to play for Manchester United or not? Loads of hardworking player who came from the academy have been sold or let go because they werent good enough.

Not a surprise that he has a string of solid performances and the moment he does something wrong the usual suspects are racing to this thread to say it's proof that he's always shite. Strangely these people were absent when he was playing well...

No need to overreact though. It happens.

It’s not an overreaction though is it. It’s a normal reaction following the immediate aftermath of a costly mistake. Overreacting would be going on about it in December. Yes, ‘it happens’ - and so does fecking football commentary about it after it happens.

Tommy is always a liability in defending anywhere on the pitch, which is funny because that's what his role is.

I would be concerned subbing him in the late periods of the game when the game is so tight. He will surely give the other team a few chances with his reckless fouling.

That’s because he would have given up chasing when he loses the ball further up the pitch.

A midfielder averaging less than 30 passes a game is not playing well. The difference casimero makes is night and day along with what we are seeing from Eriksen.

I have seen McTominay do that with players before - think he has been pretty lucky so far to not concede a penalty before. Very poor decision.

He refused to let go even as Broja was dropping onto the ground. It's like he just couldn't help himself.

He has a role. And as long as he’s here, we might as well not be this hateful towards him.

I've seen McTominay been pulled over worse than this without getting a penalty. All of a sudden, the slightest touch is a foul and the theatrical element is back. Next game they will pull out a yellow for McTominay for being fouled when he is at the other end of something like that. The inconsistency in refereeing is not something you can control. If McTominay doesn't do that, when the other players is doing that.... That is a competitive leverage then that the other team have on us.. These inconsistencies in games matter a lot to the outcome, it doesn't make for a fair game if one team is allowed something and the other is not.

And your response relates to my comment how exactly?!
