SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Some people might find it funny that Matt Hancock has caught it. I think anyone who can find schadenfreude in situations like this are absolutely terrible, awful, horrible, nasty people and almost as bad as the type people who can't spot sarcasm in posts like these.
Would it be bad if we found it funny that trump caught it? I mean he's basically likened to a conspiracy whereas BoJo and Hancock have taken it seriously.

Matt Hancock tests positive too. I imagine half the Cabinet must have it by now

You have to hope that somebody in there was sensible enough to split them into working groups and make sure they stay apart.

I would absolutely castigate you if you found it even the slightly bit humorous that Trump caught it.

Well met, Sphaero.

How's everything in Potsdam?

Pretty quiet, actually. Outside of Berlin itself the north east of Germany was hit the least with the virus. Social disctancing is practised very seriously from what I can see and the health sector is still very robust. It also helps that I think that there is quite a lot of faith in the crisis management of our government and Merkel especially in the public. I don´t agree with most of her political ideology but she has proven that she can handle hard times well in the past with her methodical and scientific approach. We were also lucky that the first wave of infections were mostly younger folk who can handle Corvid better and by now most plans are in place to slow down the spread.

As my American housemate said, as I informed her of the worrying state of our PM, 'thoughts and prayers'.

What the hell did I just read over the last few pages? This thread has been overall mostly level headed and informative, but the questioning of whether the freaking head of a government should be tested if he shows symptoms is just bizarre.

I don´t think that it was Johnsons right to be tested, but his fecking obligation. Not only is it the harsh truth that his personal health und ability to function is more important to the general puclic than others, the virus is not only a danger to him but to the he was in contact with the last few weeks, which is probably the majority of your current executive branch. If the spread can not be traced and contained you can find yourself with a crippled government in a few days. in a time when swift political actions can save hundreds, if not thousands of lives, such a scenario would be a freaking desaster....

I am not a fan of Bojo no Trump buts it the obligation of any government to test responsible people in the government. The same way with the Crown Prince. It's a duty that the government test them.
This is the most difficult and dangerous times in our lives so far so let's not lose sight of what we are facing and so let's not lose the plot.

Thoughts and prayers indeed. I hope he can pull himself up by the bootstraps. If not we will just have to accept his untimely death as a sacrifice for the economy. Absolutely worth it hey @Fiskey?

If many more of them get it, we might have Mark Francois running things.

There is not much of a talent pool in ti the tory party, more of a talent vacuum.

Is the plan that Raab basically hasn't been allowed out of his isolation tank for the last couple weeks? That was my understanding. That is what I'm clinging to, in the face of the prospect of Gove.

Well, at the rate they are all getting it, it seems that they practice self isolation pretty much the way they practice austerity. Its fine for everyone else.

Last time I saw raab, he was in the commons coughing up a lung, so it doesn't bode well.

There's gonna be a few million Trump supporters who, on their deathbeds, get a wakeup call as to the monstrosity they voted for and supported in his monstrous ways just because he also doesnt like foreigners. Karma, sadly.

I agree that swift political action would save many lives, Boris has demonstrated since the start of this that he is unable or unwilling to take swift action however. The latest debacle and stream of lies over not joining the EU joint procurement scheme for ventilators, PPE and tests is just one in a long line of his missteps throughout the crisis that show he does not have the ability or willingness to function as our leader at this time or any other. If our tests are as scarce as they say then use them to protect the front line medical workers putting their lives on the line to save others, not bluffers and chancers who are standing In the way of our actions and who have a long, long history of doing down our health service unless it suits their argument on a bus.

BBC have a clip of Dominic Cummings absolutely legging it out of Downing Street shortly after Johnson announces he has the virus. Isn't that breaking isolation rules?

It is monumentally bad planning to have the PM and the Health Minister come down with this during a health crisis.

From Day 1 in january, they shouldn't have been allowed in the same room.

Most businesses won;t let two key management fly on the same plane for this reason in normal times.

Oh my god has anyone ever had such a treat?
It happened a couple of times when I was little. I think my dad always said it was a glitch at the factory. I had a friend who's dad worked for Cadbury's and we used to get all the slightly imperfect chocolate not fit for sale. I got a whole box of smiley bars once that were just wrapped wrong. I probably have diabetes but still.............

*sigh*

Did a New York Times article inspire Trump's 'back to work' plan?
A New York Times piece by a diet specialist appears to have informed Trump’s idea to open up the country by Easter
But as many pointed out, article writer David Katz is not an epidemiologist. Instead, he specializes in nutrition advice, and has published a number of dietary books, including The Way to Eat, Cut Your Cholesterol and Stealth Health.

Have you been living under a rock  him and Idris Elba were like the first celebs to come out as positive
Bob Dylan's just released a song about JFK's assassination, so Tarrou's quite up-to-date in comparison. :D

The supermarkets are ridiculous. My sister is a police officer in Derby and says people are just going for the sake of going because it's the only place they're allowed out. People have been banned because of visiting the same supermarket 3/4 times a day. Absolute idiots.
