SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Thought the clapping was great, expected for there to be a lot of miserable cnuts in my mums estate but loads came out their doors and balconies.

of course the urgency should be to provide the nhs with all the resources and support they need, but a public acknowledgment of what they are doing for our nation is just good stuff.

The clapping was nice, but I also thought it was a bit surreal and creepy in a way. Like an episode of the Twilight Zone or something, everybody suddenly clapping and getting together before the bomb drops or something in the next scene.

You should check and make sure that guy isn't in your back garden again.

Wasn't helped by the fact someone round here decided to blast a recording of air raid sirens.

Holy shit, you lot revel in the misery.

Yes, this situation is fecking abysmal, but the clapping and cheering was a lovely moment and is absolutely a morale boost to NHS workers. My gf is a nurse and was made up by it.

And yes, they're underfunded and undervalued, but that doesn't make the applause any less appreciated. Just let them have their moment FFS, it's much less than they truly deserve, but it's something.

This is a great thread to learn about the population density and urbanization of Sweden and now the ins and outs of filing tax returns if you're self-employed.

I’ve been feeling bad about how much I participated in kick-starting the whole Sweden debacle, so it’s really nice that somebody out there appreciated it :)

I am in need of a deputy. @SteveJ already has the position of chancellor locked up because he's got compromising photos of me with Aunt Bessie and Zippy from Rainbow.
Is Aunt Bessie the woman who makes roast potatoes?

Come on then cheer us all up you big jessie

Well I got my Mum a lovely bunch of flowers for her birthday today and we had chocolate cake and she was so excited to clap for the NHS as she used to work in the service. I think she had a memorable birthday with her favourite child.

Oh i'm firmly in that camp, don't get me wrong. However i see it second hand daily the reality of what is happening. No need to sugar coat it so everyone feels warm. I would love people to put their effort into pressuring government in getting those heroes the equipment they need. It's like sending people into war without any armour!

Sadly the truth is that the whole world is at War and there is not a nation that has enough tanks or equipment. Each of us is scrambling for the same finite amount of provisions with nowhere near enough either in stock or being produced.

That's nice I bet she's happy to have you there, especially given the circumstance. I thought Hextable Harry was her favourite.

He's being responsible and self isolating, he's standing in his own garden.

 Yeah I can imagine that would have added a bit of a weird atmosphere.

Yep, can carry on working and almost double up on income.

Yes, this is the odd part for me, they have clearly said this is allowed, so if you can work safely still then you would be a fool not to claim this aswell, not because you're a greedy bugger, but because it would be impossible to say that just as this might not be affecting your income right now (back orders, etc), that it won't do in six months time, when this scheme hopefully won't be available anymore, but business could well be very different.

So I was in the hospital working when everyone just started to clap at 8. Some might think it's silly but it really does boost moral with the nurses.

In a beautiful town in South Africa there is a tiny pharmacy.

We are going under a 21-day lockdown in less than an hour. This pharmacy has been packed for the last three days. At the dispensary there is an old man who was initially retrenched several months ago due to his age (73-75). He was asked to come and assist again in these mad times, probably thankful to lend a hand. He literally stands for 9 painful hours a day, smiles at everyone and exposes his frail self to all these germs.

While I was in there I heard at least three people with persistent coughs.

This old man is a hero. If I could I'd be clapping to show my appreciation. Here's to you old, nameless man!

I hope those fighting NHS workers for flour and toilet paper first thing in the morning clapped the most.

Anyway, we are on pretty much on same percentage of deaths like last night. 525 605 cases, 23 711 deaths, that's still 4,5%, as yesterday.
Bit worrying considering you expect number of tested/infected to grow quicker than the deaths. I will follow this regulary at this time of day only with hope of it becoming far more positive in next few days/weeks.

I'm really getting sick of the fecking misery-guts cnuts in this thread.

To be fair, it’s an odd choice of thread to look for anything other than misery in fairness, hardly gonna be full of comments like “only ten gone Ireland today, less than a dozen, top stuff”.

Hopefully in a few weeks we’ll start seeing some numbers to be pleased about, but almost certain to get worse before it gets better.

Okay I'm watching contagion on ITV2. Creepiest film I've ever seen.

Yeah it was fascinating stuff mate.

Personally hoping the conversation next drifts towards bricklaying as i wouldn't mind a few pointers for building a wall in my back garden to pass the time while i'm in quarantine.

Worldometer does that for you I think

For those keeping score, the USA is now the worst affected nation on the planet. They overtook China a day before Italy was due to do it. They just cant be second best at anything can they
