SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

My Mum who I live with now during this is having her first vaccine tomorrow she's 82 and in decent health.

I've hardly left the house since March I couldn't bear passing it on by taking any risk.

I am so relieved am nearly in tears. I know we have more time to go yet but at least this is something.

Very well said. We all need some kind of a lift.

I’ve said it before on here, I have also kept quiet about it in recent weeks, but, if there’s no concerted buy in from the populace to help stem the virus, what’s left for the government to ultimately do except true draconian lockdowns & not the ‘15 person’ horseshit?

Fines are all well & good, but fines may not seem to be eliciting the intended result if one offs like these persist while there’s media saturation regarding the new, more potentially virulent strains out there?

I can commiserate re: governmental ineptitude (just look at what’s been uncovered in the past 24 hours in my country) & blame definitely needs to be foisted on governments. But these governments will have little recourse soon except to truly lock shit down & punish the people who have been coddled for too long either through too soft measures or government incompetence.

It will mean more people get tested which will mean confirmed cases will rise again.

Best late Christmas present the MSM and scaremongers could wish for!

Are you still shitting on about ‘scaremongers’? Really? With ITUs up and down the country absolutely screwed, thousands dying every day doctors and nurses at the end of their tethers? At what point will you ever accept the real villains here have been the people down-playing the severity of this? People like the Prof Karol Sikora muppet you were so fond of re-tweeting.

Ffs man, honestly what does it even matter what the total number of cases are?

Most hospitals across the country right now have essentially stopped all elective services and even some semi-urgent services too. Despite that, we're working with a higher inpatient load than in the first wave and our excess deaths, at least in the UK, are the highest they've been since WW2. We have about 3-4 wards left in the hospital which aren't totally full of Covid.

Yeah there's been some scare mongering at times. I found the reporting on Australia at the beginning ridiculous. DEADLIEST day as they record about 7 deaths.

But I'm looking at the situation and wondering how people can still be thinking in this way, now, in the UK.

Things can be serious and people can be shameless scaremongers, the two ain't mutually exclusive pal!

As I've just said, things can be serious and people can be shameless scaremongers (like that women who claimed children were being admitted in their droves which was thankfully sharply put right by an expert).

That's awfully convenient for those who just want to call everything scaremongering isn't it.

No idea. Maybe the headmistress/master agreed to it? They may have been a guest? Might be a family members wedding?

The BBC website says that the school hall was leased out.
But surely the school knew that during this so called lockdown, events were banned.
Don't understand why so few guests have been prosecuted.
It is up to the police to set an example.
Oh wait. Most of them were probably in the local cafe for their lunch...

Every adult attending should have been fined as has been suggested. I believe the wedding planner has the biggest fine, you the couple getting married would be as well. If the parents paid for it, they should be getting a whacking big fine. They know it is illegal. To fine so few it ridiculous, if you were a guest you knew you were breaking the law. The fact they covered the windows confirms they knew.

Oh well, here we go. First real worry of infection. I manage one of two teams who have to go into our workplace and 4 of us, and my partner now have some symptoms come on in the last 24 hours. Stuffy nose, slight temperature and breathless feeling in our chests.

We do do Covid testing at work so I’m lucky enough to be able to get tested very easily, just going to get swabbed in the car park now. We suspect just a cold has gone into the two teams but we have to make sure.

Negative, just a cold as suspected. Nervy few hours though for all involved.

In that case, defend this, I dare you!

Ah yes, classic media scaremongering. By correcting the record and reporting that someone they had interviewed was massively exaggerating an issue I can really see how they are at fault. :wenger:

If that guy from the RCPCH didn't come out and correct that statement parents up and down the land would be currently panicking over false information.

If that's not scaremongering I don't know what is, I'm sure you won't be the last to come up with such mental gymnastics to defend that though.

'That guy from the RCPCH' whose statement was blasted all over Twitter, and hosted on the very same platforms as the original story was. Should there have been greater fact checking of the original story? Sure. But, the idea you think it's proof that there's some conspiracy to only report negatively in order to 'scaremonger' is so, utterly, frankly, laughable that I don't really think you believe it in your heart of hearts. Why on earth would the media give him a platform if they were only interested in exaggerating bad news?

Shockingly, it is perhaps the case that a lot of bad news is being reported because it's a pretty fecking bad time. The BBC playing 24/7 Hello Kitty montages instead of reporting on the news, or whatever it is you'd rather they did, isn't going to change that.

Exactly right.
If anything is to be salvaged from this rediculous behaviour, it has to be those responsible being made an example of.

The fact the school have come out and said they just hired it out to an outside agency and didn't know what it was going to be used for. It is up to them to make sure they know.

Nice one, I`m taking my father in law tomorrow too , he is 81 and got Alzheimers , will be a huge relief , even more when my mother in law gets done who is 77 but not had a date yet.

They blocked the windows too so that no one could see inside, which means they knew it was wrong.

400 people for a wedding though that’s bonkers
It is, there a lots of couple who have had to cancel their weddings as they and the venues know it is the right thing to do. This lot are just selfish.

You might have a point in that one example but I say to you that by saying everything is scaremongering you are doing more harm than good.’people need to realise the severity of what’s going on.

Boris announcing that the new variant of the virus may not just be more contagious, it may also be leading to a higher mortality rate.

UK variant seems to be more lethal.

Original virus: Take 1000 average 60 year olds, it would be expected to kill 10 of them.

UK variant: Same 1000 average 60 year olds, this will be expected to kill 13-14 people. That's a significant increase :/

SA/Brazil variants a big concern

How the feck do you find 400 idiots willing to break lockdown to attend a wedding ?

If the other two variants are such a concern, surely the quarantine should be much more enforced rather than the form they have to fill in, and then hoping they do.

The Govt can book out hotels around airports/other ports, and ensure it's being done properly with police or even army around? The risk is too great

Or, just say you can't come to the UK for 3 months. End of

If you are a member of an affluent and like minded community, it shouldn't be difficult.
