Sami Khedira

Like I said, we should shut the club down if we offer 40 million for Khedira. He's barely worth half that.

Can't see this being true. Bid makes no sense and Madrid would never reject it.

Spain football writer Andy West: "Spanish radio station Cadena Cope is claiming that Manchester United have seen a bid of €40m for Sami Khedirarejected by Real Madrid, making the Germany international approximately the 612th La Liga midfielder that United have failed to sign this summer.

£40m is surely not true.

I pray to God we launch a £45m last minute bid for Fabregas, offering him £250k per-week.

What the feck was up with this bid?
So completely random and unnecessary, and made the whole Herrera thing even more ridiculous. We were willing to bid 40m for Khedira but didn't want to put in a few more for Herrera to pay the release clause.

I'd forgotten about this. Did it really happen? Even as bad as we were, 40m?

For all we know, Moyes could have asked Woody to bid for Ozil at Madrid and Woody just sent a fax saying we'd like to bid for a German without specifying which one. :(

Speaking at the German national team presser, Khedira has confirmed we did put in an offer that was rejected.

I need to go and lie down. Did he confirm it was 40m?

Nope he didn't mention the amount. Sounds like he was very much in Ancelotti's plans and we just made a blind bid in hope.

“The club turned down the offer and that was it,” the 26-year-old told a press conference for the German national team in Munich on Tuesday. “We didn’t really have the chance to discuss it. I had a longer chat with Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I’d stay at Real.”

The embarrassment/incompetence of the window continues.

Funny though, this window promised so much. We thought we'd really come out and back our new manager and really compete with the big boys. Little did we know...

It makes sense, just obviously not for the fee that was reported. He'd have been an alternative to Fellaini

It would have only made sense if we bid earlier. Madrid weren't going to sell a member of their first team squad only a few hours away from the deadline.

The oddity with this is that a joint bid from us for Khedira + Ozil (for 60m) was rumoured to be on the cards ages ago, but it never materialised. Maybe Madrid and Khedira's agent are trying to cheer him up.

On Coentrao, he's been available since May. Mendes has probably been trying to sell him to us right the way through summer, culminating in the loan deal discussion an hour before the deadline. He wouldn't have got a 40m bid either.

I don't think moyes will bid for a midfielder ever again after the summer we had

It's clearly a lie from Real Madrid. We know this because we couldn't even pay the fee for Herrera. Embarrassing from our end and Real Madrid's.

I'm struggling to accept we bid £34 million for this guy. Surely it can't be true? Thank feck it didn't happen anyway.

And there's also the possibility that he just confirmed there was a bid from somebody and the press just decided to run with the United story. If we were interested in Khedira - whatever the price - it'd be the first time I'd be seriously worried. We've already shown we were desperate but at least beforehand we were making fools of ourselves for players good enough for us.

From what I've read it was €40 so around £33m

We really were panicking yesterday, weren't we? Makes the Fellaini deal seem like a damn shrewd move.
