He will do very well for Jose. The perfect partner for Xabi Alonso.

So he'll most likely be one of two partners for Alonso. Or have to play as one of the side midfielders in a diamond, which he's probably capable of.
What does him partnering Alonso have to do with 4-4-2? Jose uses a pair of holding midfielders with an attacking midfielder. That is what I'm referring to. Jose had been in the hunt for a second holding midfielder.

Yes, it's clearly comparable. Valencia against Cristiano Ronaldo, an aging Scholes against Kaka(admittedly in a slump at the moment), Carrick against Alonso, Rafael against Maicon..
Or turn it around and say Rio against Ramos, Vidic against Carvalho, Evra against Arbeloa, Fletcher against Khedira, Rooney against Higuin...
But, as always, the grass is always greener...
I wasn't too impressed by Khedira. Watched him closely at the WC and there was nothing there to suggest he was anywhere close to good enough to be playing for Real. Good engine on him, that's about it. I reckon he won't get much playing time once Mourinho sees him in training.
Rio's aging. Evra against Arbeloa is not as big a difference as Maicon and Rafael. Fletcher against Khedira, I don't know how good Khedira is having seen him only in the WC. Rooney against Higuain, yes, but Higuain gets the goals. Rooney provides more, but Higuain doesn't need to with Kaka and Ronaldo behind him.
And Casillas against Van der Sar who turns 40 this year..
It's a very strong team that Real have. And if you look at the squad, they have Benzema, van der vaart, Canales and a lot of other very decent players.
It's a superb squad.

Anymore information on this, well, lengthy lay-off for Khedira because of a TOE injury?I'm fairly sure it's his metatarsal, which is kinda a toe injury, just positioned in the foot...

No no it`s a wierd injury on his right big toe according to Marca.
It's a metatarsal fracture, the metatarsal is a bone which is very highly linked with the toe, in fact this is the 5th metatarsal.
