Sami Khedira

I actually agree with you to a certain extent. I do rate Khedira but I heard he wanted to leave RM due to always being deployed as a DM. Arsenal need a DM so the chances of Wenger using him as a box to box midfielder (like Ramsey) are fairly slim.

He's mostly deployed as a gopher and on a good day he's very good at it. The problem tends to be when he's in a more restrictive role like DM. His positional discipline isn't great and nor are his instincts about assessing risks and tracking them.

Sky Sports reporting the Arse have agreed a fee with Real. Another good signing for them. We need to get a Vidal calibre CM in as our rivals are strengthening when we are already behind.

Great signing for Arsenal, looks like a replacement for Arteta.

If Arsenal get Cavani then I think everyone has to be worried, would possibly make them the best side in the Premier League - Khedira/Ox/Walcott/Wilshere/Ozil/Sanchez/Ramsey/Cazorla

That is some side.

realistically, Arsenal are signing some good players and they'll fancy their chances this season but I can't see beyond Chelsea and City for the title, at the minute. If we sign Vidal plus one or two others and Arsenal sign Khedira, we might see an incredibly tight top four with Liverpool falling out of it.

If we get Vidal and sort our defense out things could be interesting.

We are defiantly falling even further behind at the minute though - As you say Chelsea look really strong/City have strengthened and Arsenal doing what they are doing I'm loving it to be honest, seeing these calibre of players is why I pay my Sky bill, I don't pay it to see 200 Peter Crouch's so long may it continue.

I don't get this, i'm sure we would have had him here. And if we get Di Maria is he another 'reject' also Mata?
I was not being entirely serious.

But I assume given the choice Ozil, Sanchez and now Kedira would all prefer to remain at Real and Barc

Fair enough, looks like the fee is 20m which is strange because we bid 40m for him last summer.

City needs to do their business as well so far they haven't done much in comparison to the rest. Chelsea and Arsenal have already replaced their prior weaknesses with world class players and they were close last season already.

City need a CB and looks like they will be getting Mangala, also maybe a CM if Toure leaves. Apart for that they are covered. Although they have signed Sagna and Fernando.

?
They've spent like £50m
Sagna, Fernando, Caballero & Mangala are quality signings.

Have they finalized Mangala yet though? Thought the other three were the only confirmed and neither of them are going to be worth a lot for the first eleven. Fernando is a back up/rotation option behind Fernandinho and Touré and will play his role when Touré leaves. Caballero is a solid goal keeper but he's not going to be the biggest upgrade on Joe Hart and Sagna is another rotation/back up option.

Sagna can also play CB, he was decent for Arse when he had to fill in there.

It is what I meant with a rotation/back up option. He can fill in the RB and CB slot but he won't play in the first team, Debuchy kept him out of the French NT and Debuchy himself would also be a back up option for them.

Chelsea has improved at a different level, so has Arsenal and I think City needs to make at least one first eleven signing to also improve in the same manner before I would consider them the team to beat.

That's all City need really, defense is probably what let them down in the Champions League, getting Sagna/Mangala will sort that out - Mangala/Kompany has the potential to be the best CB pairing in the Premier League.

Fernando while i don't know too much about him personally, I've read up on him and sounds alike a good signing and adding to what is already an area where City are strongest, he himself been called the best defensive midfielder to ever play in the Portuguese league.

Khedira is a great signing for Arsenal. Is Sanchez going to play up front for them? Or are they still looking for a striker? If they bring in a top quality striker they will be a force to be reckoned with this year.

Sagna and Fernando won't touch the first eleven except as back ups, in Fernandos case until Touré leaves. They won't sort all their issues by replacing Dimichelis even if they will of course sort quite a bit. But Chelsea pushed them close last year, and this year they have replaced Lampard with Fabregas and Eto'o/Torres with Costa. They have replaced two of their worst players with two world class, or near world class players.

I'd say Chelsea has as big of a chance as City on the title considering it was a 4 point gap last season when Chelsea played with Lampard and Eto'o.

Well you said it yourself there, Chelsea are replacing aging players.

What do City need to replace? Where do they need to strengthen? City are strengthen areas they only can, defense and quality of numbers.

Chelsea are my pick for the league aswell this coming season.

Unless Wenger can greatly improve his defensive game, I dont see him as a great signing for the holding role. He's a box to box mid and they already have that in Ramsey.

Khedira is a great signing for Arsenal.

Disagree. Not a top holding mid which looks like the role they have planned for him.

Does look like it.

You really need to ask to know whether these players would rather be starters at Real/Barca or Arsenal?

It all depends on the players own personal goals. Do they want to succeed at the biggest club(s) in the world but above all live in the shadow of certain players i.e. Messi, Neymar, C. Ronaldo. Or do they want to be a big fish in a small pond and go on to become club legends? Henry, Pires, Vieira (still a legend) etc are all icons whose contribution will be celebrated for the next 100 years at Arsenal.

They've all only decided to move once their guaranteed starting place is gone. They were fine with living in the shadow of other big players so far so I doubt that's the reason.

Does it matter? They're playing football and getting paid pretty well. If we as fans think these players and their agents think about anything other than that, then we're mistaken.

Sanchez and Khedira? Great start to the Summer for Arsenal.

Does it matter to me why these 3 moved to Arsenal? No. My post was in response to the one I quoted. Its a perfectly reasonable thing to say that each of them would rather be starters at Real/Barca than at Arsenal and have moved because their starting places are now gone.

Spot on. Don't think a lot of people understand the role he plays, it's like when people call Ramires a holding midfielder when he's more of a Khedira style player.

I think Khedira is one of the best around at the type of job he's asked to do, I'm just not sure it's a job that's really that important. I think at the really top level (e.g. Real Madrid) you can find players like Modrić and Di María who, while not adding as much physical presence as Khedira, can still do the dirty work he does but add more once they're on the ball.

Personally I think it's a poor signing for Arsenal just because I think they should go for a more disciplined, holding player. If they already had one and were looking to add a third man in midfield then Khedira would be good if they didn't already have Ramsey.

Disagree, I think its exactly what Arsenal need.

A player who's won everything and will bring leadership to Arsenal. He'll be excellent alongside Ramsey and if Wilshere can rediscover some form and play behind them they'll have a terrific midfield.

He does seem to have good leadership qualities, I'll give you that. I'm not convinced that Wilshere is defensively secure enough to cover behind Khedira and Ramsey who both like to bomb forward, though. It's a bit too kamikaze for me, I'm sure it would be great to watch but in the big games I could see it being a disaster.

Very good signing if true. But i heard that renties were sniffing around.

Excellent signing for Arsenal. They have some exciting younger players that are now relatively experienced and have added two proven winners.

Still could do with a striker but definitely will be exciting to watch last season.

Hoping we get a couple stars in ourselves!
