Sami Khedira

Khedira might just get an extra £20/30K a week as a signing-on fee (ie £120/30K a week) if Madrid were selling for £15M due to him running down his contract. Otherwise it's a no-go since it screws the whole wage structure.

How do you feel about the player, Pete? Not absolutely convinced myself, although defo an upgrade.

I thought they were desperate for a Matic type midfielder. Someone who has the ability to venture forward now and again but will sit deep and hold for the vast majority of the game. Khedira isn't like that at all, really.

I think Wenger has the hots for Lars Bender but can't winkle him out of Bayer. Khedira looked great in Germany and for the national team but after a good start faded at Real under Mourinho with a lot of injuries partly to blame. He's not an out-and-out DM (which is the Wenger way) but would add some much-needed running power to our CM (Arteta simply can't move these days).

Yeh, agree to a large extent.

I don't think I can take another season of Arteta holding away from home. I love the guy and he's a great pro and still useful, but we need something better.

The wage structure has clearly been reviewed and altered to accommodate the Ozil and Sanchez type signings but there is no way Wenger will ever give in to wage demands. I seem to remember Arteta taking a reduction in wages to join Arsenal. Maybe we could pull it off again.

I agree. Arteta was massively over run in the Liverpool and Chelsea matches last season. When Arsenal control the game, he can be very good but a holding midfielder is a must. You never know, Diaby might actually get a run out this season.

Arteta wasn't wanted by any other big club. Khedira would probably find no trouble finding another good club willing to take him.

No he wasn't but Everton were keen to hold onto him and he was actually on higher wages at the time. True. Chelsea are no doubt sniffing around which is odd considering the current options they already have in his position.

He's on a 100K euros apparently, we'd pay about £100/110K, possibly with a signing-on bonus if the transfer fee was reduced.

Would you agree that he's better than Ramires? He's obviously better than Mikel. If they can move one of those two then I can see Mourinho wanting one of his former players if he wants to play 4-3-3.

I view him as the player Fellaini was supposed to be. Hardworking, aggressive going forwards, decent going backwards. He's technically and tactically decent enough at what he does but his usefulness depends on who he's partnered with. I don't think he'd be the first player you'd pick if you were designing a midfield, but he might be that last piece of a jigsaw for someone. Arsenal? Maybe.

Khedira isn't worth 150k/per week. He's a good player yes but certainly not worth being the top wage earner at any big club. Not to sound too dramatic but he's indicative of the cancer that's destroying the modern game. These players and their agents sometimes live in a fantasy world.

No debating the quality of Arsenal signings if they get Khedira as well as Sanchez. Still think they need a defender or two though.

Solid signing for Arsenal. Not too concerned who they buy now as they are clearly 'back' transfer wise after the Ozil deal , nothing we can do about it just have to get our business right.

Very good deal for them. Dunno if it is me, but Arsenal is moving surely towards becoming a major pain in the ass again at this rate.

We have alot of improving to do before we can even consider them a pain in our ass. Our ass is on the line this season and we dont need no more cocks ups!

Dont mind seeing Arsenal getting good players, got a lot more respect for them then for Chelsea and City and would always rather see them win the title than those 2 (not to mention Liverpool) if we can't do it and right now we would be lucky if we get CL spot next season. Our rivalry with them in the end of the 90s and beginning of 2000s was truly great.

Good signing for Le Arse. I'm a fan of his. He is limited in a sense but what he does, he does very well. He'll fit in pretty well next to a more adventurous midfielder (Ramsey).

I honestly don't rate him and I don't think he's signing for Arsenal nor do I think he's particularly needed there. With Ramsey they already have a box to box midfielder who's better than him, they need a more defensive minded midfielder than him especially since Arteta is getting old now.

Marca saying he wants 135,000 Euros a week after tax, which equates to Arsenal having to pay him about £190k/week gross.

Good player, but I just don't think he'll improve them in any great way. His passing is a major worry, at times. He has his qualities though, no doubt about that.

Good addition and he'll add physicality and aggression which they tend to lack, but it won't be the most balanced midfield if he plays alongside Ramsey in midfield. Actually a similar scenario to what would occur if we sign Vidal, whereas both sides would have two #8's in a midfield combination. He isn't excellent defensively either, though £20M is a very good fee.

£20m for Khedira is hardly a great deal when he only has a year left. It's a pretty awful price when you consider the amount of wages he's after, and when you realise Real Madrid are replacing him with Kroos for near enough the same price.

I think too many people are going overboard because of 1 or 2 good World Cup games, he's a pretty average player who's had 2 terrible seasons in a row (1 being due to injury).

I actually agree with you to a certain extent. I do rate Khedira but I heard he wanted to leave RM due to always being deployed as a DM. Arsenal need a DM so the chances of Wenger using him as a box to box midfielder (like Ramsey) are fairly slim.

Khedira would be a great signing for any club in the prem. Even City in my view. Disagree with people saying he's been average and 2 terrible seasons, he was pretty decent when he played, Madrid just had too many CM's and he got a few injuries.

For me if Arsenal signed him they would have signed the two players they've been crying out for for years, a top quality CM who positionally is excellent, breaks up play with experience and know how. And a winger / forward who offers a bit defensively pressing, and going forward adds a new dimension to their play.

If they sign a good striker different to Giroud they would have had a brilliant summer. Obviously cover for Sagna too required now.

Wherever you read that he was always deployed as a defensive midfielder at Real Madrid is wrong. The only time I can ever remember him playing there is in the CL final due to Alonso's injury. Otherwise Alonso sat deep while Khedira had plenty of license to run forward - great at finding spaces but poor at doing anything effective once he actually gets there.

@IwatUwat. He's not positionally excellent. Probably his biggest flaw is that he has no discipline and his first thought is to abandon midfield when his team needs him to hold. He's a high energy, high pressing midfielder who can harry teams and stretch them with his runs, but he has never shown that he's capable of sitting deep.

He's poor whenever I've seen him as the deepest midfielder for Madrid - which happens rarely admittedly - and if he's deployed in a similar capacity at Arsenal I don't think he will be much of a success. If we sign Vidal we would have the most complete midfielder there is and alternating the defensive responsibilities with Herrera during a match would work far better than that of Khedira and Ramsey.

In terms of his valuation purely with his ability and age in mind, £20M is a correct fee. With only a year left on his contract, his valuation should be less, but in many cases that doesn't detract much from the value any more.

Khedira is nothing but a water carrier, looked good only against the worst Brazil team ever

They could even copy how the Germans lined up at the WC

Ozil Sanchez Walcott
Ramsey Khedira
Wilshere

Never been sure about Khedira. Very one paced, suffers with injuries, not great going forward nor any real bite defending. He looks a decent player to be fair but he's been playing in a very good side at Real Madrid.
