How does it feel to have signed a Korean striker to replace Kane? A bit underwhelming no?

Do you only ask silly questions based on non-existent premises?

Or do you sometimes ask yourself serious questions, such as "why did I deem the striker's Korean nationality to be an important feature of my silly question?"

His nationality is important from the point of view that historically there have been no top drawer Korean forwards

only a matter of time for Kane now, whether its this summer or next

I walked across their empty ground
I was amazed at what the Baggies had found
On the left wing, they played Chris Brunt
But up front, they had a goalscoring ****

Oh league goals, where have you gone?
Rooney is old and we need someone to rely on
So tell me when we're gonna get him in
I'm getting bored and need the scoring to begin

They've got Brown Ideye, and Lambert too
One is the thought of, and the other is, poo.
But still they could just sell him on
After all they've got that geezer Rondon.

So in the last few minutes, why don't we go
Get Tony Pulis hanging out of his car window
This could be the end of Evans also
So why don't we go for Saido Berahino?
Saido Berahino

While that might be true there's going to come a time when a Korean striker does do really well. But ultimately nationality isn't really that important.

Don't think this signing means Kane will be going anywhere though. Spurs are even lighter up front than us haha they need players as well as Kane not to replace him.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: I'm in tears. That last verse is epic. Well done that man.

You're not doing it right newb

Why do WBA keep releasing statements? Is their chairman playing his own fans? He seems to be gaining popularity for "playing" Levy, when all he's done is reject offers for one of his players. Clubs turn down offers all the time, yet he is doing it very publicly as if he is intentionally trying to raise his own profile.

Today's statement was plain crazy. He basically said he had no intention of entertaining offers, but then went on to moan about the amount offered and the structure of the payments. If you have no intention of selling, then surely you just say "no," and keep it private, in the same way virtually every club in Europe would have done at some point this summer.

He even criticized Spurs for bidding for a player with over 2 weeks of the window left, as if that isn't normal! He claimed it doesn't give them time to find a replacement, when it's obvious that Rondon and Lambert were bought for that reason.

West Brom fans seem to think he's doing something amazing when all he's done is turn down low offers, as loads of clubs do in every window. Only he's doing it publicly for some reason. I think he expects to sell but is desperate to make their fans feel as if he forced a big deal, but ultimately the fee will be "undisclosed."

I don't actually think he's good enough for us, but I bet we could get him for £18 million as long as we promised to allow Peace to intimate to the press we paid £25 million, so he looks great and can claim to have got one over on Daniel Levy at the same time.

It is a message to all concerned in this case. Primarily an attempt not to have the media create a further storm about it that will make an unsettled player more so. Sensible.

Some possibility it also means (to those other clubs interested), fine he can go but we want 25m up front.

Jeremy Peace has always been pretty open with the clubs dealings. Both in and out.

That doesn't really make sense, since it's WBA's stream of public comments about it all that have helped fuel media attention thus far. Their latest additional public comment will only add further fuel and tend to make an unhappy player even more unhappy.

One of two other explanations seems more likely IMO:

1) Spurs, being unwilling to increase their bid further, had already walked away from further negotiations, but the WBA chairman wants to disguise this fact by playing the tough guy to impress the fans.

2) He's bluffing, in an attempt to get Levy to bid more .. or else hope that some other club will bid more.

I rule out the notion that they're simply not willing to sell, because why else would WBA have previously given permission for Spurs to talk to Berahino? And why else would they have already brought in two additional strikers?

So far hes not a one season wonder like Kane tbh
and how is Kane one season wonder? Just because he doesn't score like mad doesn't mean he's flop this season, he himself has had a good start to the season despite overall poor Spurs' start. He's far from just a goalscorer and it's been three games or so..

Well we are 3 games into the season, he might look as though he isn't going to be a 1 season wonder but it's way to early to say otherwise at the moment.

West Brom's refusal to sell is very odd, IIRC the player tried to leave last summer and if it wasn't last summer then it was in January, either way he's definitely tried to force a move already and yet again West Brom have refused to sell. What are they waiting for him to leave on a free?

I get refusing the first time like Southampton did when Morgan wanted to go to Spurs but surely a year on you have to fold?

When they bought Rondon I thought that would open the way to Berahino's move to Spurs, I mean how much more could they want than £22M?

I seriously doubt the media are unsettling the player. Fans always think like that, but the reality is the player will be far more aware of Spurs intentions than anyone in the media. There will be constant contact between Berahino's management and Spurs. Just because he's between agents doesn't mean there will be any shortage of contact. You don't put a transfer request in based on media speculation. Do you seriously expect the media storm to stop now? I don't think there is a single person that thinks that, especially Jeremy Peace, so it's not for that reason either.

I don't think anyone believes they'd have signed Rondon and Lambert if they weren't expecting to sell him. Tony Pulis didn't sound like a guy who hadn't considered him being sold a couple of weeks ago. Why would you be annoyed at the price offered for a player you have no intention of selling? Why would you be annoyed at the timing of the transfer when you tried to buy a player (Fazio) off the club you are annoyed with, at the same time! And it certainly isn't about not having enough time to get a replacement, as Rondon and Lambert weren't bought for the bench and Saido is an average winger at best. The whole statement is strange, contradictory and hypocritical. In my opinion it's all about readying WBA fans for the sale by making them think that it could only have happened if Peace got his way, which wont be the case.

People often mention how stubborn Jeremy Peace was over Odemwingie. But they don't mention that 6 months later he was sold for 30% less than what they were offered by QPR, having sat on their bench and made the odd lethargic appearance in the mean time. Berahino has already missed a couple of games and not even we have been able to keep a player beyond an extra season once their head is elsewhere. Berahino only has 2 years left on his deal. Peace just doesn't have the bargaining power the WBA fans think he does. I think a compromise of around £20 million will be reached and the official fee wont be released.

it's way too early to say anything but apart scoring goals he looks the same creative force like last year after a busy summer

EDIT: the good thing is that his price may have gone down a little

Apparently the £22 million bid is a ludicrous one. Little up front with lots of add ons. Spurs being Spurs, West Brom are well within their right to tell them to do one.

£15 Million + Evans. Think WBA would take that?

We obviously aren't interested. It's clear only Spurs are, or Peace wouldn't be doing these face saving exercises. He obviously thought that we or City might come in for him, along with other clubs, so brought in replacements and expected a bidding war. But as it turns out only Spurs are interested and that's why we are seeing these bizarre statements. He's going to Spurs and for a low fee. He was never going to be in WBA's squad today. All Peace cares about now is trying to convince WBA fans and the press that he has driven a hard bargain and forced Levy to pay up, when it's obvious he's going to have to accept a Levy style deal.

So Wilson going on loan to West Brom. Anyone think this might happen?

Think he'll be off to Spurs myself as we'll dick around trying to get Kane.

I think he will definitely end up at Spurs. Wilson would be better off at Spurs as opposed to WBA if they didn't get him, though.

United should have brought in Berahino. We have given 3 players to WBA this summer, surely we could have negotiated as deal for him.

I don't think Spurs would accept a loan anyway tbh and would Wilson want to move back if he gets a successful loan at Spurs anyway? I don't think going to WBA is a good idea either given the amount of striking options they have.

I'm thinking there is a good chance. He's one of the few noteworthy players who will still be available at deadline day, because he wants to leave and West Brom want a good fee for him. If we're loaning Wilson to West Brom, it makes the whole transfer easier.

I don't think Spurs would be a good move per se. We gave them Campbell a-few years back and he couldn't buy a game there. At least Spurs have less striking options than WBA, who currently have 5 strikers all playing for one position. Ok, two of those may leave and I have no idea if Anichebe will play much. Still seems a pointless move that will reap little rewards for Wilson.

He's a striker like Martial, what we need now is a proper wide right player to at least give us a wide option with pace out there.

Levy won't loan in a player though from us as their fans would be pissed. There's a chance that West Brom are covering their arses just in case Tottenham come in with an acceptable offer for Berahino tomorrow and then they have a fallback option to loan in Wilson as extra cover. I don't think it'd be a good move for him though.

Nope, it wouldn't be a good move at all. At least if he went to somewhere like Norwich, he would actually play regularly which is what he needs.

So if Wilson is going to WBA could that mean that's part of an agreement to bring Berahino to united? Something tells me there could be traction in that.
