I believe we will sign Felipe Anderson personally. Seems we have tracked him for nearly a year, and few reports that we made a firm move in the summer, but were not willing to meet the price at the time. Reckon we wanted to watch a bit longer, and he has been showing his quality again this season of late. He had a moment of real quality against Roma yesterday where he nutmegged his man and smashed one off the underside of the bar from 30 yards.

I hope so, and finally put Martial through the middle

Wasn't paying attention the whole game, but it looked to me that it was his best moment from a rather average performance against a better team.

Was his best moment. He was double marked to be fair, and hardly got any of the ball. He was a threat when he got it though, alhough that was very infrequent.

Pep Guardiola about Sadio Mane: "First time I saw Mane at Salzburg, I thought Wow! He's quick, good player"
He's been seriously linked with Bayern over the past two days.

"First time I saw Mané at Salzburg, I thought: Wow! He is quick, a good Player" -Pep Guardiola.

BBC gossip column reporting that Bayern are interested in signing him too. Wonder how fast he'll suddenly shoot up in the cafe's estimation now, despite being deemed not good enough a few months back.

He is fecking rapid. There was a point when he left Moreno for dead on Wednesday. Moreno is no slouch.

Really hope we make an effort to sign him in Jan.

Should definitely go for this guy. I scoffed at it in the summer, but now I recognise that he's the exact sort of player we need.

He runs off the ball and stretches teams. Not sure how much room he'd have to run in, mind, seeing as most teams play really deep against us, but he can also produce that moment of magic on the ball, which is what we lack, at times.

He'll be pricey, but he could potentially be that player who gives us that bit more, in order to win the EPL.

£100m :lol:. Who they kidding. We probably pick him up for £35m in Jan then.

True but its hard to get in behind teams who camp on the edge of the box whilst we pass it backwards and sideways.
In theory, a player like Mane should be able to use his pace. But it requires a few excellent technicians who are skilled enough that they can keep hold of the ball, dribble, and offer a big threat centrally and in the tight areas. This will leave opposition defences with the headache of whether to sit and be picked off (the way someone like Silva or Coutinho does,) or to try to hassle them - which leaves space in behind.

Eg. Play Messi central and slightly deep for 30 minutes; he attracts attention (along with Iniesta); someone like Sanchez profits in behind.
In theory.

So, someone like Mane would be useful, but only really along with a top attacking midfielder of sorts. On his own, right now he'd offer direct dribbling on the ball, but as you say, he'd not be able to make many runs. Teams know they can sit off at the moment, because on Martial is (sometimes) capable of finding his way through.

Reminds me of when Pep praised Valencia.

I like Mane. Would be very happy if we signed him but not for an exhorbitant fee.

Wanted him in the Summer, even before we were heavily linked with him.

I blame everyone on this forum who didn't want him in the Summer if he ends up going to Bayern. You bastards

Not sure it's worth the hassle anymore unless Mane himself is desperate to join us and will push for a move.

I like him but it's hardly like he is the only player out there, and any talk of £35 m + is just getting silly, you are getting into Reus and Greizmann territory when money like that is involved, players we could potentially sign for less would include Mahrez, Anderson, Moura, Robben, etc so it's not like there aren't other options out there.

Griezmann's clause is 58m pounds. Reus will command the same. 35m for Mane is about right. This is the climate we are in now. Schneiderlin wasn't as valuable to them as Mane and he went for 27m pounds.

Doubt £35 m would buy him right now tbh, and I doubt we'd go anywhere near that figure anyway.

That quote verges on the bizarre after watching them the other night.

The thing with Mané, we would need to release the ball forward quickly in order to maximise his threat. The pace at which our midfield move it around is horrible. I don't see why we cannot just play Herrera in the actual midfield. No over complicated role, just put him in central midfield alongside Schmidfield.

No we wouldnt. The beautiful thing about Mane is that he is multi faceted. His acceleration from a standing start with the ball at his feet his superb. His technique and skill levels are very high which coupled with his pace and acceleration is why he is being looked at by a few clubs. He is a threat when he gets the ball in any position on the pitch because of his ability with the ball. People are only seeing the pace side of things, the important factor is that he can handle tight spaces, being under pressure and doing it al while at pace or from a standing start.
Its a bit like when people see a tall player, they just go to the default thinking of a tall player and long or aerial balls. Same is happening with Mane, people are just going to the default thinking regarding his pace. He is in demand because he offers a wide range of problems for defending teams to deal with.

I have to agree. Mané is a genuine footballer as in he can dribble very well with the ball, he's not just a pace merchant that needs space to consistently excel.

I'm aware that he has skill too, but I think people are wrong if they feel fast players equals fast football. I still see Mané looking half the player with us at the moment. Speed of game is aboutmoving the ball quickly, and to see the best of fast players, you need more dynamism than we have in the team. Pass and move would see Mané in behind 3 or 4 times a game.

Schneiderlin was easily their most important player last season.

I would have bought Mane before Schneiderlin last season if I was in charge.

The only problem I have with Mane is that if I was him and Utd came in, I would be wondering if a move to Utd would be a good one because of the style of play LVG employs at Utd. I dont know if our style of play under LVG would work for Mane.

This.
Thought 433 worked so well for us last season. Hopefully we return to that again tonight. Fellaini alongside any of the other two that is currently fit with Herrera taming his place once he gets back.

Not sure Mane is worth the fee being quoted, but we need one that is going to run at people all day long(beating them most times of course). I'd take a Valencia we bought from Wigan at this stage.
