Having thought about it a little more, Mane would be a pretty decent acquisition for us. He has speed and is always looking to create, which has long been our issue. He looks genuinely two-footed too so he brings a further element of unpredictability to our play. Sign him up.

Who would he play instead of? All of our current players are far better.

I want to go back to the 80's when there was no transfer speculation. One day you open the paper or watch the news and bam, a signing.

I hate the twitter rumour mill with every T D & H claiming to have inside knowledge.

And I hate that I still read it all and can't stop myself from hoping some of it is true.

Acceptance, the final stage.

Why the feck would we want him? We are supposed to be way above the level of Southampton, pushing for a title. Mane is at his level. We turn down Pedro in the hope of getting a player who isn't anywhere close to his quality?
Mane isnt yet at his level. He is destined for bigger things, its clear to see when watching him play.

Would much rather see Adnan/Periera get the minutes ahead of Mane. Do not want.
I have high hopes for Periera but hope that both he and Utd are patient in how we bring him through. Not too conservative like with Pogba but sensible in not pushing him too fast.

He can take over Januzaj/Young's role, either as a 10 or from the right. Januzaj is still a kid and shouldn't be expected to be relied upon week in, week out. Mane can share duties with him and depending upon his success, can either transition to a starter in any one of the three attacking roles behind the striker or be a squad player/first change off the bench for any one of the aforementioned three starters behind Rooney.

Buying him would make sense, both in terms of squad composition and in terms of the relative strengths and skills he provides which the rest of our current attacking quartet don't currently provide, or at least don't yet have the ability to provide it reliably every week.

EDIT - Of course, he wouldn't be my first choice and if there was the chance (however remote) of snapping up Reus I would put everything into it, but the players on that level are seemingly unattainable. Buying in a Mane would solve a few of our problems in terms of creating chances and having some cutting edge in the area of the pitch which matters and it should be at a reasonable price too. If it doesn't work out, we still have a fairly young player with potential who would be a very good option off the bench and we can focus on bringing someone in next summer without paying the price of not having such a player during the course of this season.

If he played in Spain or Germany etc and we bid 30m, people would love it.

Not saying I want him signed but I think he is a very dangerous player that might need the stage. Would prefer Januzaj though.

It's not really that clear at all. Most of the players that leave Southampton don't seem to be half as good when they are with someone else.

Yep.

Heck if he was still at Salzburg instead of Southampton posters here would still love it.

Southampton would be wise to tell us to feck off. They aren't exactly broke. They don't have to sell.

He's a good player but not one we should be signing for £30m it would inevitably take for us to bring him here. Southampton paid £12m when he had been relatively unknown quantity at Salzburg, since then he has proven himself as a good PL player and this late into the window Southampton will not be able to replace him which adds premium to his price.

I don't buy the 'people don't like him because he is from Southampton'. Everyone wanted Schneiderlin, it's just that Mane is an uninspiring signing.

People would also love the signing if he was actually good.
I reckon he is a fine player, not saying we should sign him or he is top quality but peoples perception on if a player is good or bad is fecking bizarre these days.

Yeah absolute rubbish. Southampton have churned out a lot of talent in recent years, and we have put nearly £60 million in their pockets for two players whic shows the quality.

You are very right in that Mane is an uninspiring signing. Yes, he is good, and yes he has pace, but he doesn't have that wow factor we need in our attack to put us back in with the other top teams.

Imagine him and Memphis on either side of the park. Teams would have to be wary of both sides and it would open up space in the middle of the park a bit for other players.

Yeah that was my point defenders would have to worry about our 2 speedy powerful wingers So it could open up more space for Rooney. It could actually help rooney hit some form.

All those formations line up lining pedro or any other player that arent ours yet...

Should stop, its embarrassing. It's not ours until its ours

If you're embarrassed by people you don't know, and have no connection to other than supporting United, who post potential formations including possible future signings on a website dedicated to discussions about United, then...erm...well it's late and I can't think of anything amusing or cutting to say, so, use your imagination.

Rooney
Depay - Griezmann - De Bruyne

Would be my front four of choice. Yeah? Yeah! YEAH?

He could probably do a decent job for us but we don't really need another player like this all that much. I am not totally against this signing but I won't be too excited if we do sign him because I reckon we have a much better player in Depay and if we are to buy a forward this should be someone better than Mane. Pedro was a more exciting signing because he would be coming with pedigree of winning Champions League and being instrumental for Pep's Barca for a while. Mane does not have a history like this and neither does he look like he has potential to get there eventually.

Personally I would he happy if we added no one if we played players in their correct positions. No point adding just for the sake of it.

How much have we reportedly bid anyway? Soton will want at least double of what they paid for him (£10m).

Mane's an underwhelming option after all the hype of Pedro but then so was Saha and Yorke when they came... could be more about what we need rather than what we want..

Or am I kidding myself?!
