I think this is a smokescreen by the club to try and deflect criticism from the Pedro feck up.

I seriously think we have missed our major targets this summer in Pedro, Ramos and Otemendi.

I'm worried.

We're fine

According to the journos who follow So'ton, No bid has been made neither an enquiry. This has come as a surprise to them aswel.

Often we here about smoke screens at this time of the year. Normally I laugh at the suggestion but this story seems to be falsely briefed to the press by us for a purpose. I could be wrong but reading what the Southampton Journos have said it's making more and more sense.

They had no clue we were about to sign Morgan either. That story was broken by the MEN boys.

To be honest I'm happy we missed out on both CBs Smalling, Rojo, Jones and Blind will be quality and I'd like to see them develop further, watching Smalling this season already has me feeling good about it and Blinds not been too shabby either.
As for Pedro I'm a lil disappointed, I'm hoping we have someone lined up, preferably a younger player.

Lets lay this out then. I'm not totally clued up on Mane. He's quick no doubt, seems like he can finish, but is he an out and out winger or what? Can he play as a 10? a striker? More importantly, what impact could he have on our side, or is this like when you search for a rapid striker on FM regardless of the rest of his attributes.
He can play anywhere across the 3 AM positions. Very quick, skilful, incredibly direct and good finisher - the sort of player that defenders have nightmares about. Can be inconsistent though.

They're reporting what So'ton have told them.

Off course, and for whatever reason S'ton might not want to let it be known that we are negotiating. In Morgans transfer, all S'ton ever said was we made a bid that was below what they wanted and we hadn't been back since. in the end it turned out we were negotiating and had him travel to Manchester without anyone noticing.

I think people will be surprised how good he is at dribbling. LVG loves his versatile players too.

So'ton confirmed we had been in contact regarding Schneiderlin.

In this story So'ton have briefed the Journos what I posted earlier and are adamant he won't be going anywhere in this window, similar to Schneiderlin last year.

I dunno look at what we've brought in, jury's out on Romero but the other four players we have got are top class, was always unrealistic to solve all our issues in this window. Our problem is we peaked too soon, though still a good chance we'll get someone else yet.

Re Mane, it has red herring written all over, just not sure why.

I hope we sign him. He has all the right attributes we need. Lovely technique and skill, a heads up player who can see passes. When we played Southampton I thought he was their best player in terms of his abilities. He has the technical abilities to be at our club and we could transform him into a big player.

If it's true, it's good we're taking a punt on him, it's the sort of thing we don't do very often, however, Southampton paid nearly £12m for him, so we're not going to get him for less than £25m I wouldn't have thought. Is he worth that? Definitely not. Is he better than Pedro? Definitely not.

I'm ok with signing him, I mean 10 goals and 3 assists in 24 starts is a decent return for a winger that's only had one year in the league.

He's fast, he has tricks and ability to beat a man, hes at an age where he can get better, him and Memphis could be quite a problem for defenders.

Imagine him and Memphis on either side of the park. Teams would have to be wary of both sides and it would open up space in the middle of the park a bit for other players.

He's a better player than Pedro. Just get it done Woody.

No he really isnt

I don't see LVG pulling the plug on the Pedro deal if we weren't sure we'd get Mane. We bid for him last week so this isn't a knee jerk reaction. I just hope we get this deal over the line. Southampton have shown before that if they want to keep a player they will.

They're also seem to be one of the most willing clubs when it comes to selling, but the timing may make it harder.

Interesting that we would go for a player who has spent one season in this league for £25 million over a Barca academy player who has won it all with the club? If the rumours are true that van Gaal pulled this one due to his doubt in Pedro's pace, then he has gone delirious. Mane is not worth more than Pedro, end of.

Mane would be a typical United signing though. Slightly unheralded and low key but a class player nevertheless. For every genuine star player we sign there always seems to be one who balances it out as if to deliberately not want a team of galacticos. I think Mane could really excite here and his goal output from wide is impressive.

I havent read we are offering 25 million, where are these reports coming from?

Can't believe people STILL think Otamendi was a major target, it's madness.

I'm not a transfer Muppet so don't follow these things too closely, what makes you so sure we weren't? Apart from us not getting him that is

What's everyone's thoughts on Southampton’s not for sale stance, another Schneiderlin where they keep him against his will or another Schneiderlin where it's a matter of negotiations.

The Schneiderlin situation was different really, he had expressed a desire to leave previously and it was much earlier in the transfer window. Don't see Southampton selling this late on unless it's for stupid money, and if we were really haggling over a frankly bargain price for Pedro...

It'll be real hard to replace him in < 2 weeks time, their scouting network is very good and the academy reliable but the guy is pretty important for them. I genuinely don't think Koeman would let him go unless we pay stupid money. They also have Europa so they cannot afford any reduction in squad.

Why the feck would we want him? We are supposed to be way above the level of Southampton, pushing for a title. Mane is at his level. We turn down Pedro in the hope of getting a player who isn't anywhere close to his quality?

I feel sorry for Southampton.

Yeah I work with a lot of Southampton fans, its been a rollercoaster for them. This guys a favourite and I'll kill some of that excitement again.

They shouldn't sell him unless they get a lot of money

Having thought about it a little more, Mane would be a pretty decent acquisition for us. He has speed and is always looking to create, which has long been our issue. He looks genuinely two-footed too so he brings a further element of unpredictability to our play. Sign him up.
