Sékou Koné

I would. I'd be very surprised if he features this season tbh.
Agree with this. I think he will be given a full year in the U23s and if he is in good form I wouldn’t be surprised if he is on the bench but without actually coming on. Basically the Collyer scenario.

We are building a hell of a side of players aged 20 or less here:
Vitek
RB Yoro LCB Amass
Mainoo Koné
Amad Fletcher Garnacho
Obi-Martin
I’d substitute out Fletcher for Ibragimov whom I think will be world class in the next three years

Never heard of the boy of course but good to see signings like this. Getting young prospects who are linked to clubs like RB Salzburg or Dortmund is a good idea.

Is he the first signing from an African team since Manucho?

Definitely worth signing based on the YouTube clips... He might need a year or two to bulk up abit for the Prem, but he has tidy short and long range passing by the looks of it, can pass, run and tackle.

I'm sold.
Pretty much every country is smaller than England but I specifically mean that they're African giants and you'll probably pay a slight premium for their better talents than you might for a player from Mali and Gambia for example.

Red Bull use Freddy Kanoute's management company to source players in Mali so that explains the Malian links but have no idea why specifically Guidars - presume its the centre of excellence that the talented kids know provides a pathway to Europe.
The academy he came from used to be based in Ivory Coast, but is now based in Mali, Bissouma and RBs Haidara came from the same academy I believe.

Making these signings is the first step, now comes the hard work not only from the players themselves, but also the people in charge of their development (especially Kone & Obi-Martin) to put a proper long terms development plan that ensures they have the platform to reach the quality to be in the first team

This has Vivell and Ashworth written all over it. This is the kind of guy who gets bought low-key by Brighton three years ago and within 2 years, he’s a regular in the first team and worth stupid money.

Glad we’re making these kind of signings. We need to get them before anyone else does, especially if it’s another Premier League team who can charge us ludicrous prices.

That came out of no where.

I agree it would be surprising if Koné makes a first team appearance this season, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. He's 1 day younger than Lucas Bergvall and 1 month older than Archie Gray, both of whom are going to be important players for Tottenham this season.

There's all sorts of interconnected programs and partnerships etc.... that go on behind the scenes in youth football.

There's probably been some sort of investment/specific focus on Guidars in the last few years from the Malian FA to develop domestic talent, and so funneled the best youth players to them. It may even be in partnership with some European clubs (the Red Bull connection seems to suggest so).

The result is a bigger than usual group all coming through, or at the very least a group with more eyes on them from European scouts, with the Malian national team hopefully benefiting down the line.
Guidars FC seems to be newly founded (2021?) and almost only has young players, which certainly indicates that there is some kind of program here as you point out. Found this clip on the tube, some sort of intro to the club and interview with one of the coaches and founders of the club: https://www.you_tube.com/watch?v=9_goGtfmO38

My French is quite poor and I certainly cannot follow a Malian accent.. anyone with the skills to decipher what it's saying? Curious to learn more about this type of club and deal.

Edit: I'm trying to circumvent the "no media allowed to be posted by newbies" restriction by inserting an underscore into the youtube URL, remove to get link to the clip

Happy that we are finally addressing the engine room with serious talent.

Also, even though Mali is not a known powerhouse internationally, they are have pedigree on the continent. They tend to produce quality, cultured footballers and I remember enjoying watching so many of their teams play as a kid. All the best to Kone and hope he makes it at United.

Let's hope we've signed the new Caicedo before Brighton this time. Would be great to develop our own £80m talent for a change.

Absolutely loving these signings. Finally, can see glimpses of the United of old.
If we can get three or four of these ones right and have them as genuine first team contenders with a couple of seasons, we would be in a very strong position to push on and challenge for titles.

£1m fee apparently

We always hear of these now World Class talents who United could have signed as a teenager but United decided against it. Hopefully now we're actually getting them in and will see the benefits in 4-5 years

Ole admitted he was telling the club about Haaland before he became well known and the club couldn't be fecked. Hopefully those days are gone.

Bringing these players with his profile and talent isn’t the most difficult thing to do IMO, but providing them the platform and pathway to succeed at one of the biggest clubs in the world is the hardest part. We are no Brighton or Leipzig where these kids can afford time and less pressure to deliver, let’s see what plans we have in place and if the first team performs it will certainly make life more easier to integrate them.

This is how 99 acceleration on Fifa looks like. Sick athlete and decent with the ball too. Shame he's already 31.

The only way to do it is to play him. Not in reserves
This is such naive thinking. It's a process, you don't just throw young players into the first team.

You play him in the reserves initially so he can acclimatise to moving country. Caicedo moved to Brighton in Feb and played his first senior game in August and was then swiftly sent on loan.

100% this.

We’ve beaten Juventus, Real, Barcelona etc to how many wonder kids over the last decade? And it hardly ever works. Not many of them go on to amazing things either.

Signed this guy on FM
I added him in the editor 10 minutes ago and he has a 200PA
Why did you give him a lower PA than he has in real life?

He's basically the next Lionel Cristianopelemaradona Kantebeckenbaeur. I've been watching him since in 5 minutes time from now when I watch his highlights.

Very well said. We really have to remind ourselves that it is a very different thing to emerge in pressure-ridden environment where the business is much more cut-throat than it is at clubs like Brighton or for example Dortmund. It is great news that we seemingly brought in a player that was on the radar for many clubs but lets not get overboard and see the huge shift just because we want to see it. Wasn't Hannibal having a similar profile when we got him? What about that striker McNeil from City...?
It is definitely a good thing seeing the club being active on that front and I am sure, the decision makers will have a plan how to provide those players a positive environment. Lets hope, it works out.
