Ryan Sessegnon

United and most of the other big clubs have known about him for years and tried to sign him last year but he wanted to stay at Fulham at the time because he was already training with their first team and his twin brother is playing there as well. He's played quite a bit on the wing as well as at left back and is another really good prospect from the 2000 generation along with Angel Gomes, Jadon Sancho and quite a few other big prospects although Sessegnon has already played 2 years above his age group for England u19s.

Speaking of young English left-backs, who do you think is the better prospect between hi and Jay Da Silva?

Dasilva was rubbish in his debut for us. Obviously not a great sample size being that he played 60 minutes or whatever, but he looked lost every-time he got on the ball, indecisive about whether to pass or take on his man, and all to much tried the latter but basically just trying to kick and run or getting stuck and on the ball and dispossessed.

Probably speaks volumes that Sessegnon is two years younger yet playing semi-regularly in the Championship and playing well and scoring getting on the scoresheet fairly often.

At the moment I'd say Sessegnon because DaSilva seems to have been caught in the type of situation that seems to happen to a lot of young players where they are playing so far ahead of their age groups coming up the ranks that they hit a wall around 18/19 where they have already been playing u21/23s for a couple of years and stagnate a bit at that level. A few of the young players at Arsenal are going through the same type of situation at the moment because Arsenal seem to think it's a good idea to have some lads almost skipping the u18s completely even though I think players that young can still learn a lot at that level no matter how good they are. DaSilva is very talented though so it will be interesting to see if he can kick on again with his loan deal.

Cheers guys. I heard so much about Da Silva a few years back. He was excellent when I saw him in the Chelsea youth team, and remember Ian Wright saying he was 'better than all the left-backs in the PL already', which was undoubtedly hyperbole, but was an indication of how big his reputation was.

It can't be good playing regular senior football at his age. At least not long term.

Da Silva is a very good natural footballer but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make him a fullback. He's very tiny and with Chelsea side usually has a lot of possession and features good defenders alongside him I don't think he has been challenged enough defensively. He played winger for them as well sometimes.

I remember that other Sassegnon that played for PSG, was heavily linked with us, yet ended up in Sunderland 6-7 years back.

Mourinho's 16 year old son plays for Fulham, he can tap him up for us.

:D

Two more goals for him today so far against Newcastle, very impressive performance and looks a real talent.

I really would like us to see us sign more young English talents before our rivals do.

Feck me! Kid had a chance of a hat-trick today with a penalty and they took it off him at the last second, player who replaced him then missed it..

Heartless

Might just be me but watching this he doesn't look anything special except that he's really young.

I agree. I don't see anything to get too excited about. I never got the fuss about Micah Richards, Rodwell or Babel. I can see that Sesseegnon is fast and strong, which explains why he can play senior football at such a young age, but in terms of technical ability I don't see much potential there. It's like watching Embolo in the summer when people were judging his potential on his age, rather than what he was actually doing with the football. If a young player bursts onto the scene and is playing great passes, showing fantastic touch and great control, then it's time to get excited. But if a 17 year old is playing senior football, but has physical attributes which mean he's as fast and strong as the senior players, then it doesn't mean that much, as history shows us all the time.

Off topic but Reece Oxford is so average.

I can't claim to watch him but the above seems like a bit of an oversimplication. Fast, sure, but he doesn't look massive or anything, so I don't think the Micah Richards comparison is fair.

I'm not sure you can over simplify football given how hard people try to complicate it. But if you look at about 50 seconds into the video, he's out muscling defenders. Size isn't everything, you can still be strong. What we definitely aren't seeing is 17 year old Gareth Bale like technical ability.

If you looked back, I think you'd find there's not much between the two in term of development (though Sessegnon is actually a year younger than Bale was his breakthrough year). It's odd you choose Bale of all people when he's obviously a player with extreme physical gifts, probably more so than Sessegnon actually who doesn't have that kind of rapid pace.

Nobody spoke particularly highly of Bales technical ability in 2006.

That's actually incorrect, he made his debut for Wales at 16, and even then there were comparisons to Giggs due to his technical ability, his ability at striking the ball was also highly regarded as I remember Beckham comparisons.

Haven't seen any Fulham games this season so I can't comment on Sessegnon or compare them.

It's funny when i hear/see people say Bale is all pace/power and that he lacks technical ability, like technical ability only means pretty passes, the guy has amazing shooting technique, great crossing and a great dribbler.

Anyway isn't this kids younger brother supposed to be the better talent?

Bale was a FK specialist and known for his crossing ability. I chose him because at a very young age he showed he had the technique to play the final ball, that so many young athletic players don't demonstrate.

This is 17 year old Bale:

I do remember that his ability to strike the ball was compared to Beckham. But I think the Giggs-thing was more about him being left footed from Wales.

I might be wrong, but he started showing his technical abilties at Spurs a couple of years older than Sessegon. And one more thing, Sessegon looks very good ability wise when you see him for England.

I remember after he started to become an important player at Tottenham, some people were denouncing him due to lack of assists/goals, yet every Spurs game I watched he's put beautiful crosses in the box which went unheeded.
Cheers for the vids!

I guess any fleet footed left footer for Wales will also garner comparisons to Giggs (I was specifically thinking of Brian Flynn, former Swansea manager and now scout who made the comparison very early on in Bale's career). I remember watching him at 16 and knowing he would go far and part of that was his composure on the ball (which admittedly, regressed at Tottenham for a while).

What kind of fullback is Sessegnon? Attacking/defensive or just well rounded?

I've nearly seen a highlight video quite like that before, where the player involved gets lucky in pretty much every clip (luck of the bounce, weak challenges he stumbles through, defenders accidentally powering past him etc). Doesn't look anything special from that at all.

That said, I've not seen him live, and he is 16 after all. Can't be too harsh on the lad, will probably improve a bundle technically.

I saw him live a couple of weeks ago when Fulham were playing Forest. He and Tom Cairny were a different level technically to everyone else on the pitch. He'll be a top quality left back.

What's everyone's thoughts on this guy? From what i've seen he looks a top talent. But i've only seen him on highlights etc

This kid is going to have all the big clubs in England after him this summer so I expect him to go for a high fee - we could be talking £15 million + imho which would be insane for a soon to be 17 year old full-back. Having said that, he looks great.

Cairney is the one everyone should be after, Sessegnon still needs a few years.

He's been linked with a Liverpool in the tabloid press for a few weeks. I'm not ITK, but he's a top talent and it's an area for improvement for Liverpool. I can see it possibly happening.
