All lies. As if reporters have access to our training grounds and our players tell such reporter what happens on our training pitch.

How would that conversation go, yeah Robin we know you have a contract offering you 4 years @ 240k a week with 10% tax. But we're willing to offer you a reduced contract & renege on our agreement on the last year of your contract. How about 120k a week for 2 years....
As for being "better" than Rooney, that's very open for debate, on last 2 season's Rooney has been the better player in my opinion.

That it's open for debate with the club now offloading van Persie as surplus shows you how average he's been recently. Under Moyes he managed to drag us through some games and his figures were decent but he still wasn't at his best. Under van Gaal he's been moved around due to injuries but towards the end of the season he had a good run as a striker (almost three months) and apart from Spurs and a rare moment here and there he didn't do anything that special. I'm a fan of Rooney, at his best he's a brilliant player who at 29 and as the club captain should be in his prime leading the way but people giving him 8/10 for this season are absolutely crazy.

Maybe he didn't want to leave, but he got a really good offer that he couldn't refuse. 265k/week for 4 years with 20% tax, that's a lot of money, more than he gets here and he will get it until he's 36...

I don't agree. Rooney under Moyes was better than the Rooney for the last 2 years of Sir Alex but Rooney under van Gaal has been really poor most of the time. I felt at times he was holding the team back with his heavy touches and unwillingness to take on his man and get a shot on goal. Last season was the worst season Rooney had as a Manchester United player and if he doesn't improve on it, van Gaal will drop him even if he is the captain. Captains can be changed anytime and van Gaal is ruthless.

I wish Milan would have taken a punt on him, rather than buying Bacca and Luiz Adriano. I know they're better options in the long term but I would have loved to see RVP at the San Siro.

That 20th title will never be forgotten. Thanks Robin.

Sad he's gone really. I'm guessing we have someone lined up because I'm not too keen on relying on what we have left. Rooney was dire at the end of the season.

I have a funny feeling there's going to be a few snide remarks from him about United over the coming years.

Thanks for the memories Robin, that amazing first season of will never be forgotten. I think it's the right time for him to go, but it's sad all the same.

Ladies and Gentleman Mr Louis Van Gaal has got some big balls and he's shown them to the world

Absolutely ruthless the way he's shown RVP the door, but better for the club. show no remorse just like Sir Alex

A sad ending to a player/club relationship that started so well and promised so much. Good luck Robin and thanks for the memories.

Everything went more or less to shit after Fergies retirement for him. Things could have been different, seems his last 2 years have been a bit wasted here. I expected more in the last season, but good luck in Turkey. I am still a bit sad, he was a great player in form. Hopefully he is happy

Perhaps it's strange to say, considering he wasn't here for long, but Van Persie is my favourite United player ever.

His first season with us, he was just unplayable.
