Strange decision to sell him I think.
We could've at least given him a month to see if the rest he's had has rejuvenate him.

Not pleased with this at all.

Me neither.

More so since all the VG experts I have read on this site have said that there aren't many strikers currently available that fit the managers "striker profile". It's strange that we have let one who did, leave us.

As I am posting this... it looks like my former team-mate Robin van Persieis joining Fenerbahçe.

The moment Sir Alex Ferguson told us in the changing room at Carrington that he was retiring, I looked to my left around 6 lockers where I saw a totally devastating looking RVP... he was shaking his head in shock, completely disheartened it seemed. Robin took it the worst out of the whole squad.

I, like many of the squad had been lucky enough to have played under Fergie for many years but Robin had just got to the club and part of his fairy-tale of joining was playing under Sir Alex.

We would travel to games together and he would talk about him & how he compared or was different to Wenger & ask loads of questions about the great man. He had found a place & a manager that completely got RVP - Ferguson knew RVP 's goals would get us the title back & so throughout the first 6months of the season he was drilling it home to the other players to get the ball into him or else! Imagine the confidence that would have been running through his veins after hearing his boss talk like that to a team he respected - about HIM and HIS importance to winning! And yes we went on to win the league that year and a large part of that was RVP's goals that got us there!

As a player he is so silky to watch, great touch, can hold the ball up & bring others into play, timings of his runs, skills & a dream of a left foot....oh and he can finish!
He was actually a better player than I thought he was when he arrived at Manchester United - I had played against him many times vs Arsenal, so I knew he was good but not this good. Maybe that was because he was up against me and VIDA though!! On a serious note though, I think that was the general thought through the squad too.
"We'll done boss on bringing him here "

The goal against Aston Villa FC will forever be remembered by Manchester United fans - the ball from Wayne Rooney....then the volley....oooofff stop it!!! Don’t get me started on the last minute winner away at Manchester City!!

Two players have left Manchester United this week for Fenerbahce – they both leave being a large part of the clubs recent success. Considering the prices being paid elsewhere, the club will deem both signings as a success.

Good luck Van Pizzle!!

It's easy to dehumanise footballers with all the money and the lifestyle, but those comments about how devastated Van Persie was show you how much football matters to at least some of them. Hard to imagine how crap it must have been for a player who made a pretty monumental decision to force a move to a major rival only a year earlier.

I would expect us to buy a striker but if LVG is thinking depay sometimes as a striker? I'll have nightmares of Valencia/young on the wing? We've sold Nani, our best winger too. This don't please me at all. Someone mentioned Valencia back on the wing and I almost threw up. The next month will see a few more changes i'm sure. Let's see how many kids go on the tour, perhaps a big chance for Jessie.

There aren't many better finishers in the game when he's on form.
And we are United, we can afford those wages.

Its not about affording his wages, its about clearing out players from the wage bill to make space for new ones. We will not miss RvP next year, because Rooney will get a full year at striker can contribute the same amount of goals as RvP would. Makes perfect sense.

Thats pretty sad :(

When something like this is reported by newspapers, it is usually a leaked by someone, otherwise the papers can be sued for damages. Transfer rumors are different, reporters can make up stuff since they do not get inside info on that.
come on, do you think van persie or anyone would take care about some newspapers? Papers risk to get sewed, it's a sensation and they make money from it, it'spure reality man...

you can go to court with it but why would you waste your time even reading it. I think everything will be clear soon if van Persie decides to react. I doubt he even see the articel form some bollocks newspaper.

All that is ridiculous, the age of information is pretty harsh sometimes..

Fergie screwed him over a bit I don't think there's a chance he leaves Arsenal if he knew what Fergie had planned. I wish him all the best and hope he has good memories of United. I would have kept him personally.

Must admit I am a bit gutted, sure it's the right move for both parties but he was just so likeable as a person and a player. I can't think of another non United player I liked so much (prior to his move to Old Trafford...). If only he could've replicated his first season...

This is could well be complete bollox, but il post it anyway.

Ever since Fergie left i've had a gut feeling Van persie was bit of a negative influence on the dressing room. A sort of 'your all inferior and this is your fault not mine' vibe when things were'nt going too well was an impression I got at times.

Of course there's lots of incidents that don't support this so i'm probably wrong but I couldnt shake off that feeling about him.

When LVG arrived I was sure he would step up and become our leader again, especially with their relationship and the big dressing room characters; Rio, Vidic and Evra leaving. However that did'nt materialise and he was underwhelming again last season. Maybe Van gaal sensed something and thinks cutting him free is for the best for him and more importantly the squad going forward.

Mata? No one disliked him.

Fergie wasn't set on retiring when he signed Van Persie. That's just the way football is. I'm sure Van Persie didn't see himself playing in Turkey a couple of years back...

Pretty sad this whole thing. Knowing Fergie would retire and Moyes being his successor must have taken a massive hit on him, thats how he played too.

Then van Gaal arriving, but he probably knew the squad wasnt good enough and with the leaders gone + injury problems, he never got back to his best. Deep down he wanted more, must be shit to know that you wont have a good chance to win more once Sir Alex retired.

Wish him all the best, all went pretty fast and i think van Gaal really wanted him sold for whatever reason.

He left Arsenal to go one step ahead. He left Wenger - a great manager and the man who developed him and matured him through his young days and when he was written off to the best striker in Europe for Ferguson. The manager who was always one step ahead of Wenger.

I think adulation mattered for Van Persie. He got that at Arsenal but for his own reasons doubted their situation. In 2012 it was not a crazy idea. He just got the timing wrong. Not his fault. That's circumstance. Fergie retiring after 1 year, Moyes coming in, 7th place, squad upheaval. Transition. He left Arsenal because of transition.

He could have gone to City. But I don't think he bought into the idea of playing for a club looking to buy their relevance. I don't think he'd have swapped Wenger for Mancini. It would take something special to make that move. That was Fergie and United. A club spoilt with success and where entertaining was priority but entertaining with high skill. We saw that from RvP in 12-13. He really wanted success.

Things changed obviously. Originally during the Moyes-Van Gaal regime I was quick to give stick to RvP. Part of me thinks still that if he didn't take into account that a 71 year old man could call it quits then that's your own fault. A career decision you didn't factor in. But looking at it now he's leaving, I don't think this Manchester United is what he envisaged he signed for. He joined hoping to begin his trophy haul playing with high level players and a great manager. Now players will come and go. Managers will come and go. The days of sentiment and almost a story tale club where everything flowed nicely are done now Fergie's gone. It's not a bad thing. The legacy left behind was flawed and needed revamping. It's the right call for all parties. Will RvP hold regrets joining? He got his one year of greatness but two-thirds epitomized "the grass isn't always greener".

Great reception for our Robin Van Percie today in Turkey. Will miss the man what a player, wish we had kept him.

Great player and we'll be missing him coming season.Best wishes for his future.

Has Fenerbahce got a new money man or something.. RvP is rumoured 240K and Nani is also 120K+

Wish we had kept him if he'd agreed to be a backup striker.

Thank you Van Persie for the memories. Your volleys are as silky as Federer's serve!

Great player seems to have gone out with a whimper a bit, which is a shame, as his record for us has been good.

Few injuries have stalled him a bit, and he must realise it, as he's gone to Turkey over Italy / Spain etc.

Any views on a figure / fee as yet. None have been quoted as far as I've seen. Surely its worth a few quid?

Didn't he come out in June and say that the decision on his future will be based on Euro 2016 and that he had to be playing to be in form? He's on 250k a week at United and playing at the top of the EPL is better for your Euro 2016 prospects than playing in Turkey.
That's not how it works with the Dutch national team. In 2012 he was topscorer in the EPL with 30 goals and won all the player of the year awards. But at euro 2012 he had to move to the wing or midfield to make room for a striker from Schalke....

wish him all the best. I won't lie, I wanted us to sell him if it meant getting a new striker in, but I will miss him. Very likeable person and was a great servant for United. Basically won us #20, and for that he'll always have a place in a lot of United fans' hearts.

Sad to see him go, but he has struggled for a while now with us. Currently a far cry from the cocky genius we signed. I'm sure he will still be very successfull in Turkey, and I wish him well.

Thanks for number 20, Robin.

There has been 3 changes in manager since Euro 2012. The way it worked then is not necessarily the way it works now. Van Persie explicitly said he would make a decision on his future based solely on the need to be playing regularly. It stands to reason that he didn't receive the assurances he wanted that he would get those games at United.

I'm not sure what the alternative argument is here? That Fener offered him so much more money than 250k a week that he left United, despite assurances that he would be first choice here? That doesn't seem realistic to me.
