I'll miss him and Nani, both players who I like. But if this means Wilson getting more games, then I guess I'm fine with it.

Not another latin player as a replacement please.

Fergie leaving (and being replaced by Moyes) seemed to be the worst thing for him. Honestly think he would have had another 30 goal second season had Fergie stayed.

Will always enjoy that he was number 20, got number 20 for us (with a hattrick in that Villa game), his late winner against City and of course getting a guard of honor at Emirates as a champion :)

I just can't believe how it's ending, how he spoke originally, so enthusiastically of wanting a long stint here at United, coupled with his first season, I know we should think of him as a proffesional regardless, but Sir Alex retirement did seem to have a major effect on him, I can sympathise if it's true he'd been told by SAF that he would continue on for a few years yet when originally agreeing to come to United.

How did it all end up like this? :( kicked out the back door so unceremoniously after just 3 years.

Ruthless by LVG pulling the plug on RVP, when he joined it felt like it really was about the club, the traditions and most importantly Sir Alex. At the time it was a huge coup for United getting Van Persie from under City's noises as we had been loosing pretty much every single player to them recently.

Van Persie was the first superstar world class player that joined United after a long long while, i respect him for that.

Shocking no other club is interested in Van Persie.

Mr. Wenger if i were you i would !

4.7m! That's a f*** joke. We sell our players at such a low price it's incredible really.

I'm not necessarily averse to selling him, but this seems like a really weird transfer. An incredibly cheap offload of a useful player, in a position we're sorely short in, with no obvious replacement, by a manager he seemed incredibly close to... Just a bit odd.

Last year of contract, injury prone, old, save on wages and he got his league title already

Has the "Betrayed" article been posted? I knew the media would be ready to paint LvG as the bad guy for doing what is best for the club as opposed to his friend.

Exactly this. Huge saving on wages, that explains the low price! No one willing to pay his transfer and high salary and why would RVP leave without the salary.

The interest is looking for a longer contract might be from his end since we were not willing to extend (which if fair IMO). Why doesn't it always have to be the club?

Well, we could have given you Emre as a show of gratitude, but we already got rid of him, so this is turning out to be the best summer ever :)

Just don't get paired against us in CL play-offs now. You have to get through 3rd round first where Fenerbache will be unseeded, but with two good ex United players with loads of experience and still possessing quality, you should get through that round.

I'm not too fussed about the Champions League. Since United haven't been in it and Fener haven't, I've lost my interest, particularly in the latter's case, because feck UEFA and everything that it stands for.

That said, I'd hate to see United and Fener paired together, because a) United is the team I throw all of my support behind when it comes down to it, and b) it makes me cringe when I read the inevitable stereotypes about Turkey.

It's not odd when you consider how steep his decline of the last few years. He's been deteriorating, year on year, according to every metric available. Stats aside, he's blatantly looked like someone whose best years are long behind him. Something I've been banging on about for ages. I'm actually quite pleased we're seeing this ruthless streak Van Gaal was supposed to possess.

It's good news because it's paving the way for some big wages to come in.

I like him as a person, when he is in interviews he just seems like a nice guy, but his time has come, and it's better for us and him to go so he isn't sucking money out the club and delivering very little in return.

Thanks for the great year, Robin.

The last year however was very mediocre and if a sign of things to come i.e. a real decline, then getting rid of a 200k a week wage and receiving a 5m fee would seem to be prudent.

Only if we already have a replacement lined up, because if not, then the price of every half decent striker just went by 5m min.

I should add, that I feel that the decline was more so because RVP doesn't suit the Van Gaal system. Despite his amazing goal in the world cup under LVG, RVP was pretty absent there too. Coincidence?

He wasn't good the year before either.

RVP is a great bloke, not sure anyone could disagree, and whilst I think he has a few years left of being able to score goals, I don't think his fall in mobility means he can do that in the premier league any more. I'm surprised at the destination, Italy would have been my guess, slower pace of the game there would help him really, but for us, it is the right move. Not just the right move, but gives me faith in LVG. There is no way on earth Moyes could have made this call, LVG is here to make the tough calls, and hes doing it. With a friend no less. That is good for the club, and good for us as supporters.

Falcao and RVP out the door and were now stuck with shrek :(

Who was the better performer of the three last season, offers much more to the team and is a touch younger.

With that being said, I certainly think he needs to up his game. We should expect a lot more from our 1st choice striker.

We must have a striker lined up. Would be mental otherwise. Personally glad to see him off the wage bill. His legs have gone and his hunger went some time ago. His goals record shows how good a player he is though, bearing in mind that you'd only really call one of his three seasons impressive.

I always thought that RVP signing was an attempt to tackle the symptoms rather than a cure. Back then we were better off signing 2 quality CMs to replace nearly 40 year olds, people with chronic illnesses and shit players. Having said while short sighted such tactic did won us our last EPL title. He will be missed.

I hope that United won't get a world class striker which we would than force us to play him week in week out whether we luck it or not. I am sick watching Rooney in midfield and we certainly don't have the staff needed to play with a 2 forward line formation

You won't be happy with seeing Rooney in the midfield but do you think that Rooney is capable enough to lead the line for a team with aspirations to win titles and trophies?

While we can debate the mystery of not buying a midfielder, we needed a goal scorer like VP in the team. Too bad that Lewandoski was hell bent on joining Bayern, or he would have been the better long term option.

We would struggle if we don't get another striker, Rooney as much as like him, isn't good enough to lead the line for a team with ambitions. Especially one, where chance creation is at a premium.

Prepare to be dazzled by Nani and RvP. They're obviously world class otherwise we wouldn't have gotten rid of them.
Yeah whilst Young and Rooney are both fantastic world class players. It will be quite funny and depressing at the same time if we draw them and those 2 help knock us out. Clearly both still good enough for us based on the current squad.

 bit racist no ?

Erm. Probably can be argued as such but I'd be mad if something similar to last season happen, when we got Falcao and gave him minutes Wilson could have played. I'd hate for us to get someone like Cavani in for example. Which won't surprise me at this point to be honest.

You have to think that we would only announce it if we were close to signing someone or perhaps have signed someone and not spoken about it yet. Anything else would be like when we sold Ronaldo for 80m - it was announced because we have zero intention of spending the money on quality.

I don't know, wouldn't mind getting Cavani he is a good player, not every transfer is going to turn out like Falcao.

Wilson will get his playing time if LVG thinks he is good enough and ready for it.

I'm sure this will be addressed today in the presser. I would imagine Van Persie was given the option to stay but Van Gaal could not guarantee him the amount of games he wanted. So maybe RVP met with Fenerbahce who made certain assurances such as game time and wages and an opportunity to play in the Champions League (hopefully not against us). Good luck to him, I feel this is the right decision for all parties.

A prime van Persie is van Gaal his ideal profile of a striker, so no. Many Dutch people even wanted Huntelaar to start in stead of him because he has a better goal/game record for the NT.

RvP was just on his decline and with his wages and quality he couldn't be benched for a year, I don't think he wants to sit on the bench anyways with Huntelaar still breathing in his neck.
