Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

The only problem with that is Europe will also get poorer. Why do you think there are still some European countries against banning Russia from the swift payment system. Europe is already facing an energy crisis, The dispute between Morocco and Algeria has already stopped gas into Spain/Portugal. Stop the supply from Russia and it would be a whole other level.

What is the alternative? His armies are massive and his weapons are plentiful. Nobody wants to enter a war with the Russians. Not even the yanks. It would be a total and utter humanitarian disaster.

The best we can hope for now is that industry leaders force him out. Airlines are already being banned from countries. The Russian economy is about to collapse and all because of their leader.

He’s what people wanted right? All the ignorance over trump and this is what people get. A guy who can barely speak and a puppet.
Biden is a bit of a joke but be under no illusions. Trump would have been praising Putin at this point.

A friend in uni in Kharkiv says they are running out of food.
That's worst sign of all. Let's hope it's just temporary.

If Putin decides to block convoys with food and medical supplies, I wonder what will take for NATO or anyone to finally do something.

One of the journos asked the same question I have largely been asking - if not now, when? What more escalation is needed?

So basically sanctions only until he attacks a nato country if he does at all

I dunno, he kept avoiding the questions about sanctioning Putin now.

He said they will reevaluate the sanctions after a month, which is about how long it would take until they see the effects of the sanctions. Swift may happen as soon as the last couple of countries (Germany and Italy) come around tomorrow.

There's a NATO summit tomorrow and tbh, can the US do everything by themselves?

Germany and Italy need to stop being so focussed on their inner issues and think it could get worse.

Hope that CNN reporter got out in time... Ukranian army attacked, retreated back, then leveled the area with artillary and are now mopping up.

Rightfully so. All of these journos are asking silly questions.
Yep, they're basically prioritising a sensational headline over the necessary ambiguity required for strategic sanction responses as events unfold.

So, nothing major then for now. I wonder if NATO will help Ukraine with arms from behind the scene.

He'd have nuked them by now
This the same guy that was praising Putin just yesterday, you mean?

Why do people refuse to see Trump governs as he deals with his business partners? He's ready to throw nations under the Russian tank just like he's willing to push people in front of a bus if it saves his arse.

This is without even going into Trump being compromised by Russian money.

Truly some see what they want to see and this is how Putin has support in Russia with his propaganda.

If Ukraine have retaken Gostomel that’s a massive amount of Russian special forces and airborne dead, that’s where the CNN reporter was earlier

It hurts Europe more than most so SWIFT and other measures aren't as simple as some want it to be. Are you willing to be destitute for the sake of showing Russia who's boss? Are Germans willing to tank their economy when they might not have to?

Keir Starmer under pressure to act on 14 MPs who have condemned Nato - who are the 14?

You have to ask whether Ukraine has done anything to hold up the Russian military advance.
Why leave runways so that Russia can take it and use it to transport their military equipment.

Why leave strategic roads unprotected such that Russia can use them to transport their military equipment.
Why not mine them at critical choke points with IEDs.
They have had enough notice to be able to do something meaningful.

You genuinely think Trump would handle this better?
Who knows. He could have told Putin anything from 'offering US assistance to invade Ukraine', to 'throwing a thousand nukes, the best nukes, you know Vlad that we have better and larger nukes that you, to Moscow' and everything in between.

For what is worth, I think that this probably would not have happened under Trump's watch, cause he was massively unpredictable.

With Biden and European leaders everything was predictable, and it seems that Putin made the calculations that Ukraine is worth freezing Russian assets in Western financial markets.

Really?! Not through Chernihiv?

Not according to people who know much more about these things than I do, Chernobyl is on the river, maybe thats the reason? Might be different terrain on each route.

Another theory I've heard is they want to park their artillary, balistic missiles, air defense, etc around the sarcophagus... Where UA won't risk retaliatory fire to.

NATO forces will not set foot on Ukraine territory I think most have already confirmed that.

shortage of supplies is not a good sign.

Protests everywhere in Russia.

Thank you Russian people for standing up against this dictator even though you may face harsh consequences for doing so.
