Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Not sure Challengers have been involved yet, at least haven't seen any report showing they have.

I've seen one video with a couple of them on the front lines. Apparently Ukraine have held some of their new kit back to reassess tactics after that feck up with all those Bradleys.

It can be pretty much a part of the plan to prepare the public for the fact that they will need to fight for the country later, when they need more men. As much as it sounds strange, the narrative of leadership being incompetent is better than it being good and still losing. They will fire some dudes up there and ask people to join now that they've fixed it. And it gives Putin an opportunity to purge some people that he does not like.

So there is an absolutely insane trench clip on r/combatfootage, for those interested...not sharing here.

I don't recommend watching it unless you're not used to seeing come pretty dark shit, which I am not :( Pretty shook to be honest..

It's not gory, but you really feel like you are in those trenches killing people point blank. Awful stuff.

This is why running a corrupt country is inefficient as feck. Having to come up with this bollocks just to cover yourselves. Yes, you and your oligarch mates (probably running into the. 10s of people) get to steal every last resource, but feck me you just run your country into the ground so quickly spending precious cash on things that no normal country would even consider. Financing a warlord to keep your other warlords in place. Good going Russia well done.

The sooner Russian elites are curtailed around the world the better. Let them rob their own country but then struggle to spend it anywhere else (or at least make it as difficult as possible).

I'm just always amazed at how these dictators have to spend so much energy and thought into protecting their power. Where is the "fun" in being an all-powerful leader if you are so paranoid? What's the point?

Being a totalitarian fascist dictator being sought by the ICC doesn't mean one can't have fun. Putin's ice hockey and judo hobbies are examples.

There is no point to it. There is no fun in it. They live empty lives in huge empty houses with empty wives. Their greed, their immense thirst for power is all they have. The second they’d have accomplished their goals of world domination and whatever, they would face nothing but emptiness.
Look at Elon Musk for example. He’s got all the money and power in the world. And yet his whole life is dominated by his sad thirst for attention and the immense desire to belong to a society he’s never been part of or even understood.
If they weren’t so destructive and dangerous, I’d pity these fools. It’s also why they never stop. If 1 billion Dollars would make you happy, why not stop there and be happy? Because they aren’t happy. And they still need more money or power because they believe at some point happiness will set in.

I firmly believe that there’s next to no dictator or billionaire in the world knowing happiness the way I do. Or you do. Or most of us do. They are incapable of experiencing the joy of a breakfast in bed made by one’s lover. Or a self made pair of socks from a cherished friend. Or whatever. They live unnatural, inhumane lives of isolation.

Sure, sounds awfully kitschy. But I believe this to be true. And I can be a gigantic cynic feck.

Nevermind being a dictator. This is true of most wealthy and powerful people - mainly because the best things in life are free. Beyond having sufficient money to where life expenses aren't a concern, there aren't really any happiness benefits to being insanely rich or powerful. In fact its probably closer to a disorder than a blessing.

Yep. Absolutely. I see it at work everyday. The amount of work and responsibility people take on for a few bucks more. I will never get it. I get to finish on time and am free to do with my time as I please. That’s priceless for me.
You just don’t need more than enough. Enough is enough.

Enough is also highly person/circumstances specific. Such wide generalisation is rather impossible.

Obviously. But if there is no point where you have enough, be it power or money, something is fundamentally wrong with you. There is no amount of money that could solve any problems Jeff Bezos might have to this day. There is no amount of power that might solve the issues Putin has. They are broken beings.

Just one final point. The reason most places that people work at, and have the opportunity to decide what is enough, exist because some people, at some point in time decided that enough is not enough.

It’s like watching someone play Call of Duty. It doesn’t feel real. All of these guys dying for Purim’s ego is incredibly depressing.

Such a shame Kadyrov's goons couldn't be there given that they've been given the herculean task of securing Belgorod.

Are these defensive and offensive battle plans all being done by the Ukrainians, or do they have NATO help with the gameplan? Because the fact they're still in this fight at this stage seems crazy, I would think Biden sent some generals over under cover to help the Ukrainians focus their attacks in high percentage ways

The Ukrainians are getting heavy ISR help from NATO apparently.

Ukraine is getting a lot of intelligence, but they make their own battle plans and are reportedly reluctant to share them even with their allies.

And also don't overestimate what US/NATO generals can do here. No one there has experience how to fight a war under these circumstances, they all just know how to use technological superiority to bomb enemies into oblivion, because that simply is the way NATO operates. Ukraine doesn't have the army to fight like NATO, so they need to find their own way.

It has been reported that they do engage in wargames with at least the US and UK. So while they do take the lead in their own battle plans I'm quite confident they consult their Western partners.

Yes, consulting for sure. But it's not like NATO generals plan and Ukraine fights.

That's my understanding - NATO are giving them as much data as they have and then are obviously heavily involved as consultants. Decisions will be made by Ukraine and they have seemed extremely capable so far, even with the recent counter offensive lacking air support they are making slow progress if reports are to be believed.

and by "NATO", its not NATO, but countries that happen to be apart of NATO.

The friendly general's opinion about the Russian army using T55s like the WW2-era Goliath tracked mine.

There seems to have been another attempt by the RA, which reached the tree lines this time (probably in a different area). Hopefully, the UA's troops were outside the radius of the explosion zone. We can expect the RA to keep doing that everywhere now.

Biden admin actively sabotaging Ukraine now? To me it still says they are winging it and haven’t clearly defined the war goals yet.
